The good ice no the best ice !
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Let me say that this really is the good ice . My only mistake was buying a generic one at first only to learn that nothing compares to the ge brand. I decided to spend a little extra and let me tell you this machine is worth every penny. The ice is amazing quality

Great ice but is it worth it?
I love the ice it makes but there are serious design flaws. I am on my 2nd machine in about 3 years. Between the water pump losing its prime , the squeaking and now the grinding noises I fear my machine has chewed up the plastic gear. I have cleaned the machine faithfully every 3 weeks alternating between vinegar and opal cleaning solution. My first one was replaced by GE because it stopped pumping water. I will see if they will stand behind this one.

Been waiting my whole life for this!
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Ever since I found out it was possible to have a legit nugget ice maker in my home, I have longed for one. Finally 2025 was the year! It was a bit heavier than I expected. But I was still able to maneuver it into the house. The box opens around the bottom like a TV or other large appliance. I'm glad that I read the instructions and watched some YouTube videos about how everything worked and the cleaning process. I'm a bit disappointed at how often It's recommended that I clean it and don't know why they don't have a better system than popping the two tubes out and back into the plastic piece to drain it. Seems chinczy for such an expensive item. I would expect a nice quick disconnect drain hose with an on/off valve. The website said it didn't come with the filter so I ordered one. There was one in the box so I thought that was the one I ordered. But then another on showed up two weeks later? No complaints as the filters are quite expensive. I'm not a fan of pouring bleach into something that I intend to eat/drink out of. So I used vinegar as it cleans and descales and isn't poison. Hopefully that will be OK. I love the ice. It's just like Chick-fil-a. It makes it quick, it stays for several hours in the tray. then recycles the water as it melts back into the reservoir for reuse. I don't like having to take out the ice drawer to refill the reservoir, but that's better than if it was top fill, because the Opal barely fits under my cabinet. The reservoir seems to hold enough water to fill the drawer twice. I didn't get the external tank. I'm the only person who craves it in my home. So the internal reservoir is adequate. Be aware that it needs space to breath on the sides and I'm glad that I bought the quietist one, because we can still hear the fans and such a little bit in our living room. It's not as loud as our dishwasher. The phone app works great. I wish that the button labels on the front were legible at all. It takes a bright flashlight at just the right angle to see them. That's really stupid. If text is so offensive to the aesthetic, just put icons or something. But make them readable. Otherwise the buttons are worthless. I still don't understand why GE hasn't come out with a fridge that makes nugget ice. I just replaced all of our appliances and would have absolutely bought the opal model if one was available.

Waste of money
We purchased the GE 2.0 ice maker 2 years ago. The last 6 months it has had all kinds of issues. It produces very little ice, 20 cubes or less an hour, and constantly says defrosting or cleaning. We have cleaned and maintained it as recommended but this has been a huge waste of money.

Best Machine Ever
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This is the best purchase our office could have made! We did a ton of research on ice machines, and this was the most recommended on the market; Reddit was right! The ice is so crunchy, it is such a quiet machine (literally never makes a sound), it took only a few minutes to install after cleaning, and it makes SO much ice! I feel like we haven't run out once since purchasing. It fits perfectly on the counter, and the side tank attachment doesn't add much to it (size wise). The price is worth it--you'll probably never have to replace an ice machine again!

Only lasted one year
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I loved this machine, unfortunately it only last one year before it gave me issues. The ice drawer detached, so the front falls off every time I pull out the drawer.

Good Icemaker
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I purchased mine three years ago and it started making a loud noise when it tries to make ice. Other than that I love it
1 reply from GE_Appliances team - 10 days ago
We'd like to assist with your Opal's sound level. It's very important that you descale your Opal every 2-3 weeks to remove mineral buildup. Mineral buildup would cause your Opal to run louder than normal. You can find the descaling steps here: https://products.geappliances.com/appliance/gea-support-search-content?contentId=000060634

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] The cleaning light continues to flash constantly and I was told that it is a software glitch and there is no scheduled release date. It continues to make ice.

Squealing Noise
I purchased 2 of these units January 2025. One for kitchen and one for downstairs of my home. If you YouTube this item, you'll undoubtedly see everyone has to deal with the squealing noise after only a few months. The ice is great, but the squealing noise is unbearable and even when you WD-40 - the squealing comes back over and over. If GE ever finds a long-term fix here, I'd jump on it - but I'm not sure this purchase was worth it.

To ensure best operation it is important to follow the cleaning and descaling procedures outlined on pages 7-9 of the Owner's Manual - https://products-salsify.geappliances.com/image/upload/s--5hi-s8xk--/9233fae4e8db120d517015985c24c06b44fefdaf.pdf - That said, we would like to review your situation further and have sent you an email to gather additional information. Expensive but doesn't last
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Started off good... 16 months later it started squealing as it made ice. Now at 18 months we woke up to water all over the counter. Thought maybe there was an issue with the hose but when I leaned it back over the sink to get the rest of the water out I watched water leak out of the body of the ice maker. Also the water tank design is poor, we only run filtered water in it and it always has deposits in the tank when cleaning and you have the smallest opening to try and clean it out.

not worth the money
starts out as amazing then little by little no matter how much you clean it and take care of it, it will start to break down right after the warranty is up. I loved this ice machine and for the price I wish it didnt die so soon.

It was great for the whole week that it worked
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] My husband and I were so happy to receive this ice maker as a wedding gift. We absolutely loved it for the whole week that it worked. Now it will no longer make ice. It constantly says "making ice" and then "add water" even when it is full of water. We have tried making sure the tubes aren't stopped up and have cleaned it multiple times. Unfortunately, at this point we will be in contact about the warranty for our machine. We are really disappointed with the quality of this expensive machine, in particular because it was given to us as a thoughtful gift.

We'd like to assist your Opal no longer making ice. The first thing we recommend is to make sure the ice bin is pushed all the way in place. If that doesn't help, the next step we recommend is to reset the Opal by unplugging the unit for 3 to 4 hours. We will be reaching out to you via email to gather additional information. Please respond to the email at your earliest convenience.
