Q: It doesn't include the dose funnel as mentioned on the specifications. Is it an old model? The breville web page shows the dose funnel as an accessory for the units they sell.

A: It in fact, does not include the dosing funnel despite it saying it does in the description. Also doesnt include the descale solution. I received the "BES870XL /B" model

A: No, the Breville® BES870 Barista Express® is not designed to make a full cup of coffee. It can extract a 1 cup shot or a 2 cup shot and hot water can be added to those to make an Americano.

Second Machine!
I had my first barista express, and it lasted seven years! I’ve easily made over 5000 drinks on this machine until it started shorting out because of some kind of leak inside. Breville give me a heavy discount on another machine so I bought it instantly. Fantastic Machine and I will continue to buy them.

Never gets to espresso range
Never gets to espresso range. I’ve tried everything from descaling, cleaning throughly, using different beans, different grind settings. Just never gets to range or it brews legit less than 1/2 and ounce of espresso.

Poor machine
The machine wasn’t working properly. It started leaking from the water tank side, which made it messy and hard to use. Definitely disappointing considering the price.

New Barista Express machine
It's been a few weeks using the new Barista Express. I've used a similar Breville machine that lasted over 15 years without being serviced. But, this new Barista Express runs well. I like the built in grinder that's not to loud. When I do 2 shots...the machine is a bit louder than I would have expected, but it doesn't wake anyone up...lol :-)

Best machine
We originally bought this machine 11 years ago and used it every day (sometimes multiple times a day). Only needed to get it serviced once in the 11 years. One of the internal components on that machine recently died and instead of getting it fixed we decided to purchase a new one. After tons of research, nothing else in the market compared to the simplicity and quality of this machine. We absolutely love it!

An Unfortunate Surprise
I am incredibly bummed by this purchase. It worked well for the first two months but has since deteriorated significantly in quality and no longer can achieve espresso pressure. The wand has also become an issue and doesn’t lock into place which is new as of this week. I’m going to try and replace the one I have and hope that the next one is better. I’ve had friends with this same machine that has lasted years before requiring maintenance. I think the one I received may just not be up to par.

Overpriced and inconsistent
This machine produces coffee 60% of its attempts. The other 40% of the time it gets to pressure but produces nothing but a waste of coffee. I clean it every time, use the same grinds and do the exact same process but from one cup to another it’s a crap shoot. Save your money and frustration and buy anything else.

Very happy with this machine!
We’ve had this espresso machine for about two weeks now and absolutely love it! It has just the right amount of operator controls so that you can finesse things, but it’s not overwhelming or hard to figure out. It was helpful and informative to watch the short video about using this machine, provided by Breville. We’re impressed with how smooth and creamy the microfoam is, compared to our last machine. Also, I didn’t think I wanted the grinder that came with it, but I’m finding it very useful.

Love! But...
We have been loving our homemade lattes and various other drinks we have making on the daily with our Breville! However we have been experiencing a lot of pooling of water underneath the machine. Not sure if this is normal from using the steamer and water gathering in the drip tray but a lot of water will appear underneath the machine first thing in the morning before it has even been used.

Bought this again…..
I️ sold my first one because I️ bought an Italian automatic for a lot…. Love it…but nothing makes a better cup than the barista express, it’s just amazing. You have to learn a little to be good at it, but in no time you are having excellent coffee. It’s fun too! I️ love super hot coffee and it never fails that I️ get a good shot with perfect foam from the wand that is perfect for my wants.

Caffeine deficiency
I was born with a caffeine deficiency so this helps raise my caffeine levels. Best advise is to watch videos on how to fine tune the machine. Buy a scale and measure your beans. Endless caffeine for years.

If you’re on the fence- just do it! You won’t regret it! I debated getting this machine and ended up down a deep dark rabbit hole of espresso machines ultimately deciding after all of the positive reviews to give it a shot ;) It was super easy to get started and I pulled a really great shot on my second try and now it is becoming second nature. Pro tips- Get a scale to dose your shot! That has been so helpful. Fresh beans from a roaster make such a difference! I can’t speak on durability since I just purchased it but so far I am loving it so, so much!

Not Great
This machine is very hard to dial in, Bitter tasting and the support line kept sending me beans and then blamed them for the poor results. There are much better machines out there, do your research.
