Q: is this age appropriate for a nine year old

submitted by jan - 5 years ago
  • A: My son is 8 and played with it for 2 hours straight. We did a couple basic builds together to get an idea of how to do it. It does has a couple "Don'ts", and kids should be supervised. Definitely a great STEM toy.

Q: is this age appropriate for a 7 year old

submitted by lois - 3 years ago

Q: Is this good for an 11 yr old

submitted by Krissy - 5 years ago
  • A: I got this for my 10.5 y.o. son for Christmas and he absolutely loves it! He's been into Legos and building since he was very young; so if the child is into building, they will definitely love the Snap Circuit Skill Builder set. I plan in getting him another version.

Disappointed - 10 months ago
Cheaply made, and drive up @ North Fontana is a joke. Horrible! No Target team members answered the phone in the morning or evening. I waited from my Drive Up product for more than 10 minutes. My item was in a Target team members hand as he chatted to 2 Target associates outside in Drive Up. I am requesting a free giftcard. This was a horrible experience.

This set can be noisy, depending on the project, but amazing. My kid rarely wants to do anything besides video games, but he has spent hours using this after some initial help (he is 7 yrs old). Once he had the general idea he was able to follow along with the numerous projects in the book.

Amazing toy. I bought it because of all the good reviews posted and every single one is true. It kept my 6yo daughter engaged for a long time—it was a little advanced but nothing she couldn’t do without some assistance. We bring it as our gift for every birthday party now.

Awesome and fun learning experience

This was a Christmas gift for my 10 year old and he LOVES it, thinks it is so cool. He has only done a few projects so far but is completely fascinated. He loves building with Lego, so this is next level creativity. I will say, I wish it had volume control because the sounds are LOUD, but I'll tolerate it for the sake of STEM learning.

Fun STEM toy to introduce kids to circuits

5 out of 5 stars
Neal1620 - 3 years ago, Verified purchaser
I got one each of these for my son and daughter (age 6 and 4, respectively) to introduce them to electronics. Out of the box they really enjoyed building the helicopter launcher for a while, then playing around with some of the additional modifications to the basic circuit, building their own circuit loops and "manual" switches (loops connected manually by hand). The modular design makes it easy for kids to fiddle around and try things out. I'm colorblind and I think the manufacturer did a great job of selecting the red and green colors so that they are distinct, even for me (strong protan colorblind). I can tell which ones are red and green pretty easily, so a real shout out to Snap Circuits for that. Manual is pretty clear once you get used to the numbering convention (the small numbers around the breadboard grid are the level at which the parts are snapped, for example, 1 means right on the board, 2 means there's one thing under it). This one runs on two AA batteries (not included so would pick a few up if you don't have them on hand). Great product for introducing kids (or even adults who want to learn) to the basics of electronics. Can be combined with other sets to make custom products if you're interested in doing that.

9 and 12 Year Old Loved It!

Our 9-year-old loves "figuring things out" so although he did not ask for this gift specifically, we thought it would be a good fit for him. Not only did he love it, our 12-year-old can't stop playing with it and has asked for one like it for his birthday.
