STEM toys are Science, Technology, Engineering and Math based products that are geared towards developing useful skills in all areas of learning. This product focuses on the core subject: science.
Great toy. I bought this for my son (7) as an introduction to electronics. I explained how all of the components worked and walked him through some of the labs in the book. Within a short amount of time, he was trying alternative circuits and building more labs on his own. He played with it for several hours that day and the next. The construction is great, and I suggest watching a video or two on the kit to give you an idea of how to use it.
This is a great, kid-friendly introduction to electrical circuits and what they can do. The modular pieces and visual instructions make it simple to create many of the easier projects, and there are more complex ones to keep interest up. It would be better, though, if the tutorial started with some basics of what the pieces are and what they do. They get you right into building a successful circuit, but you don't really learn what a resistor is for and where you put it in a circuit. You just paint by numbers. However, my 8-year-old twin grand-daughters were busy with it for days after Christmas, so it certainly caught their attention. They are so interested in science that they may learn more about how electrical circuits work now, than they would have before they thought about what circuits are for.
Our 6 year old grandchild was all smiles when he discovered what this Snap Circuit set was all about! He learned that there are many options to connecting and routing different circuits and currents. Successful circuits (connections) produce different results such as: sequential lighting effects; sound notifications; setting off a whirly-flying spinner; and a basic upc scanner, plus other cool variations. Highly recommend for a first Circuit Set. Pieces are well-designed for strength and easy handling.
This is a great, high-quality STEM toy to get those young brains working! My kiddo is 6 and LOVES building the circuits. He’s always so very proud of the effort he put in when he sees the final result. He could spend hours working on this - much better than spending it on screen-time! Very happy to have bought this for him.
