Return to old fragrance & I’ll return to buying

The new smell is more like the fragrance used in toilet cleaning products to mask odors. I’ve been a heavy user of Banana Boat since 2010 as a regular outdoor swimmer but even my family objects to the odor now.

So disappointed

So disappointed! We've used this product for years and loved it, but the new formula is awful. The smell is truly unpleasant and the lotion has gotten thinner and less absorbent. Please bring back the old formula!

How dare you.

The Formula may be New, but it is NOT Improved.

For several years, the "Banana Boat Sport Lotion SPF 50" was my daily sunscreen of choice for both face and body: It had a nice, thick consistency, with a high amount of Homosalate (A superior UV Filter), and dried clear with a sticky finish that was perfect for applying baby powder on top. The new formula is essentially the opposite of that: It's watery thin, almost all of the UV filters are lower in percentage (how it still maintains the 50 SPF rating from the original is anyone's guess), and it has an incredibly greasy feel that makes a mess of any powders I put on top. It's honestly impressive how much worse this new formula is than the original. Let's be honest: There was nothing wrong with the original formula and Banana Boat knows that. They just wanted to make it cheaper to produce- And it shows. At least I have an excuse to try some new sunscreens now.

Chemical burn upon application

I began by applying this product to my neck. I immediately felt a burning sensation and stopped applying it. My neck became very red and inflamed. Now it's the next day and the skin on my neck is still very red and irritated. It feels like a chemical burn. I have no allergies and have never had an adverse reaction to sunscreen. It's worrisome - what is in this product? Are other users also suffering chemical burns? Should this product be recalled? Banana Boat needs to know about this.

Horrible experience!

I've used this product on myself and my kids for two years with no issues. I bought a new can at the end of last season and there was 1/2 can left. I applied it to myself and my family this past weekend before heading to the beach. You could see the shine where it had been applied and we were thorough. One family member used a different sunscreen and was completely fine with the same sun exposure. Every single person who used this can got the worst sunburn of their lives. Our heads, faces, necks and ears were completely fine because we used a different product there. The can was obviously somehow defective. But I'm very angry because my kids have never had a sunburn and now their skin is damaged and peeling.

The new formulation smells terrible

This has been my go-to sunscreen for years and the new reformulation has a completely different scent that sucks. It smells like you spilled fruit juice on you and let it sit on your skin all day. Why would anyone want to smell like that?? The old formulation smelled like classic sunscreen, and I strongly preferred it that way. I will not be purchasing again.

expired

My first order came and exp. date was 8/2025. I reordered and new one came with exp. date of 7/2025. Disappointed that these have evidently been sitting for 2 years and that is what is sent out. No reflection on product, just Target.

Will not be buying again

If I could give it zero stars I would. I have used Banana Boat for MANY years. I bought spf 50 on 6/20/25, it has an expiration date in 2026. I used it on 6/21/25, reapplied 3 times in a matter of 3 hours and I am SUNBURNED!! I live in Indiana, and never burn no matter what the temp is when I use sunblock. The new formula sucks and I will be finding a different brand.

Not good for combination/oily skin

I bought this for the high SPF and because I exercise in the sun. Unfortunately this product makes me break out in acne all over my arms and back after I use it, two or three times now. I do have combination/oily skin but I’ve never broken out from sunblock so much as with this one in particular. So if zits are an issue I would stay far away from this one.

Lack of information in the bottle

Is it normal there is isn't any information in the bottle itself, just in a sticker applied to it? Also, no lot number or date code? I have currently one bottle with full information printed directly on the bottle, but also 2 other bottles with incomplete information (no exp date/lot number) on a sticker, not in the bottle itself. How do I know they are all good?

Worst product

I have been using this sunscreen for the past 15 days. Initially I thought it might be change of weather that's making my skin sunburnt but even after so many days it still doing the same thing. I don't usually go out in the sun for more than 1 hr but still my skin kept getting darker and darker. Please don't buy this product, it's a scam. (You can check the difference in skin color in outside and underside of arm)

Burn City 🔥

Worst ever!! I’m from the South Pacific and NEVER had I received a sunburn AFTER applying sunscreen - I used this particular brand as my usual European mineral brand was out of stock. Applied to entire exposed skin, waited 30mins and then had proceeded to the beach (right across the street) I was out in sun and water for less than an hour, and I was ROASTED. This product is Pam Cooking Spray disguised as Sunscreen.
