Water smells foul after boiling

It has a really bad smell and makes the water stink. I thought it was the plastic on top that smelled at first, but even the water I poured into a cup was stinky. The instructions said to dump the first two pots of water, which I did. I did not pour a glass of water until the fourth pot of water that I boiled the smell from the fourth pot of water was just as bad as the first spot. The smell was foul, so I didn’t attempt to drink it. I will be returning this item.
