essence Jelly Grip Hydrating Primer - 0.98 fl oz: For Normal, Oily, Combination Skin

To start I don’t have sensitive skin. I’ve never had a reaction to anything I’ve ever used. And while I did like the smell, texture and lightweight feeling of this primer.. after using it even just one time I broke out in a rash all over my face, my face was burning, itchy and very red. When applying the product it felt like alcohol and burned a little bit. But after wearing it for a while is when I broke out. I wanted to love it but i can’t. I gave it a few tries but i ended up not being able to wear makeup for a week afterwards.

Amazing quality for a lesser price. It doesn’t feel too sticky or heavy on your face. The texture feels similar to aloe vera. The only issue I have is too many air bubbles in the pump, causing you to have to pump it up to 20 times to get any product once in a while.

This is my third bottle it’s an amazing duo with the primer stick as well. It is not as sticky as others which I love. Thank you so much essence

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] For me this primer was a little bit of a learning curve - i had to figure out the best way to use it which took me a few attempts and THEN it was good and I liked it! The primer itself is would say is really good for dry skin, it's very hydrating and for me helps my foundation not cling to any dry areas I have (which is usually my forehead), I would say if you have oily skin then this would be too much for you! What i found works is using only 1 pump... no more! If you use more than that i found that it can be too sticky but with one pump it was the perfect 'grippiness' that it claims to have. I waited around a minute for the primer itself to settle and getting a little tacky on my skin before applying my foundation and it looked nice! My foundation did look smoother and my make up in general did last longer throughout the day.

It goes on lightweight but gives that tacky finish you want so makeup actually stays put. My foundation glides on smoothly , doesn’t pill. And looks fresh all day. Not cakey or dry. Not only is it very affordable, but it also performs very well! I really like the packaging as it makes it easy to get the right amount of product every time.
