Q: Why my remote only works to turn it off?

  • A: If your BLACK+DECKER window air conditioner remote only turns the unit off but not on, it’s often due to weak or incorrectly installed batteries, interference or blockage between the remote and the unit’s sensor, or a control lock feature activated on the AC. It could also be caused by a malfunctioning remote, sensor issues, or a built-in time delay that prevents immediate restarting after shutdown. Make sure the unit is properly powered, the remote batteries are fresh, and try turning the AC on manually to isolate the problem.

  • A: Hello, To keep your BD05MWT6 running efficiently, we recommend cleaning it regularly. Always unplug the unit before cleaning. To clean the air filter, slide it out from the front right side of the unit. Wash it gently with warm water (not exceeding 40°C / 104°F) and mild dish soap, then rinse and shake off excess water. Let the filter dry completely before reinstalling. Never run the unit without the air filter in place, as this may cause frost buildup on the cooling coils. For the cabinet and front panel, you can wipe them with a soft cloth dampened in a mild soap and warm water solution. To clean more thoroughly, you may remove the front panel by gently releasing the side clips or screws, if applicable. Avoid using harsh cleaners, wax, or polish, and make sure no excess water gets into the control area. Dry everything thoroughly before plugging the unit back in. Let us know if you need a step-by-step guide or further assistance!

Q: Does this unit have a fresh air control? If so where. If it's on the front(where I would expect), then where? I suppose it's possible it broke off, but unit is brand new and I can't find it.

Q: How do you access the filter? I see in one of the pictures the front cover flips down to access filter. But, in the other picture I can see the tab for pulling the filter out from the side.

Loud machine noise even on low

Unit is quite loud on the low setting and not good for an office. The auto mode ramps up to incredibly loud and even in a small room it runs often. Cools nicely but its louder than the 15 year old unit it was replacing. Its not too heavy which makes it easier to install but even with a good sale price its not recommended.

Cooler than a freezer

The Black & Decker air conditioner is an excellent choice for cooling medium to large-sized rooms, up to 550 square feet for a 12,000 BTUs. It cools rooms quickly and efficiently. It's powerful enough to maintain a consistent, temperature, with comfortability even on hot days. It's Energy Efficiency with an Energy Star rating, helping to reduce electricity bills. Features like energy saver mode, programmable timers, and sleep mode further enhance efficiency. Generally, the unit operates at a moderate noise level. It isn't completely silent, but quieter than older models. Installation was easy, straightforward, and very manageable Features included adjustable fan speeds, remote control, digital thermostat, and multiple cooling modes (cool, fan, and dehumidify). It is equipped with filters that help remove dust, pollen, and other allergens from the air, improving indoor air quality

Try something else.

I suspect some of these reviews are for a different model. Personally, this is the worst AC I've ever. It is very weak and has an awful rattle. The remote is very convoluted for what should just be a few simple settings. I just hate it.

Coolest room in the house

Great to have on had hurricane season! Runs well with our generator and keeps most of our house cool without power! Otherwise it keeps our bedroom extra cold at night. Great unit.

Works great!

We don’t have central air, so I needed something so my night shifter husband could sleep comfortably during the hot summer days. This Black and Decker window a/c unit if fantastic!! It was easy to install and keeps the room nice and cool. I love that it has a remote so we can easily adjust the temperature even while we’re in bed. Definitely recommend!

Works great!

Our upstairs was really hot and the air didn't seem to make it there no matter how cold we kept the temp. This unit has really helped cool down the whole upper level and our bill hasn't gone up much so very energy efficient.

This is a great and efficient ac unit. I would highly recommend. It cools the room really fast in just a few minutes and is efficient. It does not put a dent into your electricity bill at all. The unit is heavy but still easy to install onto the windowsill.

Great for a mid-size living room

We got this for our living room since we do not have a ceiling fan in there and it gets really hot and stuffy. It cools the whole room down quickly and is much quieter than other a/c units we have had in the past.

Nice and cold!

I live in an apartment with lots of west facing windows, and no central air. My rooms get so hot in the afternoon, and this unit has been a lifesaver. I have one in my bedroom and one in my living room, and they keep the rooms so comfortable. They were easy to install, look nice, are quiet while running, and were very reasonably priced.

Perfect for small mobile home

My home doesn’t have central air and this heat is outrageous this year!!! I bought this to help cool my bedroom and bathroom - and it does a great job. The instructions are well written and set up was a breeze.

Great window unit

I needed this so badly for my home. We do not have central air and it is so hot this summer. I was hesitant if this would be good for my home. I'd say overall it does a pretty good job at cooling the room I am in. It seems to be made with good components too.

Perfect for my sewing room

Cools room

We wanted an ac for our bedroom at nighttime that just cools the room and not the whole house. This one works great and the noise is a perfect white noise for sleeping. It cools the room quickly and was easy to install
