Played a couple of times. I loved that you don't have to be stingy with the cards in this version. The flip mechanic is very enjoyable and fun. Plays quickly and is very replayable. Everyone loved it. I think we might like better than the card game even.

Impressive adaptation of the card game!

As usual, the Exploding Kittens team has exceeded expectations and created something unique-yet-familiar for the board gaming world. While it keeps the general feel of a ticking time bomb of the card game, this board game version is an updated take that includes movement cards, creative card play, and a mind-blowing pop-up book for a board. We loved the transforming board, especially the unpredictable changes to the space values, and the lack of player elimination (without losing the impactful consequences of exploding) felt like a perfect improvement for this latest iteration. If there's a specific improvement I would suggest, it would be to increase the thickness of the movement circles, as those get used constantly and could be bent by a careless grab. Regardless, a great addition to our game nights for gamers of all experience levels with the right mix of strategy and randomness to satisfy just about anyone.

Fun game, neat complications, but...

OK - this was a really fun game, with *really* neat complications such as the board flip.Artwork was excellent, game play was fast, and the way the board was organized (with markers where to place various items along the board edge) was really helpful. Thje only thing I'm worried about is longevity (with no data to back this up as of yet, but I still worry). We take a lot of our games to our beach house and one of the things we often encounter is swelling up of various cards/cardboard/paper elements in the humidity. We have even resorted to putting our OG Exploding Kittens deck (Kickstarter era!) on cookie sheets into the oven on low heat to dry out the cards on one occasion when they got puffy from the humidity. The flip-over-board element to this new game seems like it would not work so well if humidity swells up various elements (see paper hinge in pink circle in attached images)Playing this only in your airconditioned home? 5-Stars! Humidity in your playing space? Or 4-stars sheerly out of concern for how long the construction will last at the beach....

Fun but maybe a bit slow to play?

I played this game twice, once with 2 adults and 2 kids (8 and 10), and again with just 2 adults. While the game was fun to play as, it seems to me, more exploding kittens games are. I don't know, this just didn't seems a fun as other ones. Flipping the board with 4 tokens on it is a bit of a kluge, have to be careful not to move the pieces by accident even though, for the most part, they did stay in place. And the game play, in general, was a but slow. The game board estimates 20 min, but it too 1 hour and 30 min respectively to play the game though. granted we were just learning but again the game just seemed to move sort of slowly. I did like the extra instructions that clarified some of the card actions. They were very helpful.

Love the adaptation of this. works well, defintely needs t be more than 2 players. I think the board could have a few more spaces. the board needs a tab/handle for the page to be flipped back and forth. it was difficult to grab at times. there could be more 'move' cards, even with 2 players we found that card stack to have to be reset too often.

This game had so much potential. Threat of chaos? Check. Possibility to betray your friends and throw them into the path of destruction? Check. An underwhelming sense of 'meh" once the game began? Unfortunately, check. For starters, the instructions amd field guides were well written....but having to flip between the two to figure out the rules and actions quickly became annoying. We had to restart twice due to not fully understanding what some of the cards did, due to not reading through the entire field guide beforehand. Speaking of cards - y'all missed your chance on the "Antinope" cards. I played with two other people and we all agreed that "NOPE-alope" would have been 1000x better. The game play itself was fairly to the point and easy enough - as long as you read exactly what each Action card was meant to do. Understanding each Action card was tricky at times and required multiple read throughs of both the card and the Field Guide. We all agreed that it would have been smoother if the FG was read before playing, not during the game The game was pretty quick to play once we figured out how to strategically turn against each other. But even then, it felt like it was missing something, but no one could quite say what. Maybe more action from the action cards? More spaces to go around the board?Overall, the board design was cute amd interesting, the Action cards were funny to read, the pop up aspect to the board was really cool...but the game itself felt bland. We played through three times and none of us were interested in playing again after that. Honestly, we had more fun switching the board back amd forth, amd watching the pop up action. A bit disappointing overall.

The perfect reimagining of the original!

This is such a fun way to renew your appreciation of the original, beloved card game! The board itself has such a wow factor with the page-flipping pop-up feature, and that also adds a fun, unexpected element to the game play as well. In typical Exploding Kittens fashion, the cards are all super amusing and keep you eager to see them all. The stakes feel lower than the original card game, which, honestly, my anxiety kind of appreciates! I wish the game play lasted a bit longer, but playing it again and again is always an option to keep the fun going!

I played with a diverse group of people, and I can say we all had fun. The first couple of times we were being nice to each other and getting used to the game. However, once we got the hang of it, that's where the fun begun, it's easy to be mean to each other which I find hilarious and it's also easy to go to last place in a blink of an eye. I love how easy it is to flip the board, and I like how, in comparison with the card game, you don't die in this game, even if you explode with an exploding kitten, you still have the chance to get back and win the game. I highly recommend this game!

Exploding Kittens Evolved

If you enjoy Exploding Kittens the card game then you're in for a real treat with Exploding Kittens: The Board Game. Those unfamiliar with the card game will have a blast playing, too. The board itself is a thing of beauty from the cute Calm side of the board over the the amazing pop-up Chaos flip-side. I was skeptical about continual board flips and the player character pawns being accidentally moved around but it wasn't an issue and didn't detract from the gameplay.Speaking of gameplay...it's the same basic principles of the card game with the big change of the board spaces making your kitten explode instead of a card. You're likely to explode multiple times but there's no longer player elimination! Everyone is in it until it's over and it doesn't long to play at all, making it easier to play multiple rounds back to back (to back!) or squeezing a game in when you have limited time. Time is also saved before and after playing as setup/teardown is a breeze. While not revolutionary (other than the board with the spaces that change when it's flipped, so cool!) this is a solid addition to the Exploding Kittens family of games that will compliment the Exploding Kittens card game in your collection. Plays well at all player counts, is easy to learn, play doesn't drag on, and I want to again call out the removal of player elimination.Overall, I'm psyched to have this one in my shelf of games. Exploding Kittens has another winner on their hand with this one!

Great retelling of an old story

I was very happy to recieve my Exploding Kittens Board Game. Game play wise, if you are familiar with previous EK card games then the game as a whole is very easy to learn. The changes with the board just lead to more glorious chaos. My only complaint. While all the materials in the box are of good quality I had some difficulties with the board itself. I love the almost 'pop up book' feel of it but had to spend a good 15 minutes working with the board to try to make sure that it both 1) does all the needed things and 2) does not tear on me.The game was easy for my group to pick up and go with (roughly 75% are experienced EK players) I was also happy to see that, time-wise, several games can be played in a night of gaming. I am looking forward to adding this to the rotation for both board game.night & EK games night.

Exploding Kittens: The Board Game: The Review

Overall, we enjoyed the overall design and ease of play of Exploding Kittens: The Board game.Pros: Card designs and jokes were top notch as always. The design of the game board was fantastic and loved the pop-up effect. Cons: The rules were a little unclear (if someone was occupying a space in front of you, when you make a move do you count that occupied space as a move or do you skip to the next open space; looping back at the end of the game board and counting the number of moves was a little unclear). If the game is played with 3+ people, the number of move discs aren't enough. It requires a lot of reshuffling of the discard piles. The card quality is noticeably worse than the typical Exploding Kittens card game. The cards felt a little more flimsy than normal. The game tokens are okay but would be nice to have more solid tokens a la Monopoly tokens (metal or even rubber/plastic). The move discs can be difficult to shuffle. Action cards are a little difficult to grab directly from the box. Requires lifting the pull tab in the box, but this causes the cards to slide and sometimes slip into the cracks between the box and the card container.

We took this on family vacation and the 11 & 12 year olds broke it open. After reading the instructions a couple times, we got playing and really got into a groove with it. Everyone chose chaos whenever able to - sabotaging each other with the danger magnets every 5 minutes. Giggles ensued and fun was had.

Played this as a 2 player game; it was quick and fun. Easy to learn and we got a kick out of the flipping board. I like the little extra strategy this has compared to regular exploding kittens. Looking forward to playing it with more people - I think some of the gotchas will be better with a bigger group. I was sent this product for review, but opinions are my own.

Exploding Kittens Board Game Review

My friends and I really enjoyed playing the board game version of Exploding Kittens. Gameplay is easy to understand and it is fun to have different cat cards. We did have to reshuffle the deck quite frequently so would have loved it to have more cards so we don't have to pause gameplay so often.

The Board Moves, But the Strategy Doesn’t

Exploding Kittens: The Board Game is a fun and fast-paced adaptation that brings the quirky charm of the original card game to life with an inventive, interactive board. The shifting board creates dynamic situations that keep players on their toes and mostly works well, though occasionally feels a bit awkward or misaligns with the board pieces. The hilarious artwork and approachable gameplay allow new players to jump right in, but the shorter playtime comes at the cost of the strategic depth found in the original card game that allowed for endless replayability. Still, it's an entertaining party game that’s perfect for a few quick rounds with friends or family.

Not enough can be said about a good, quick, fun, light game. Easy to pick up, can go multiple rounds in a row full of laughs and surprises, a super good time with the kind of all-ages humor that players of Exploding Kittens will be familiar with. The real standout is the board: it’s small, which is part of why the game goes so quickly, but the design and construction is masterful. The mechanic of switching boards, which shifts without having to move the pieces and uses little magnets to snap into place, is really clever and perfectly executed. The box says is plays 2-6. The game was actually rather dull at 2, but played a couple times with 4 and 5 players and it was an absolute blast. And if there aren’t kids around, it converts quite easily to a drinking game that can really jumpstart the night.

A unique racing take on the original card game!

As a huge fan of the original Exploding Kittens and its variants, I was both excited and uncertain what to expect with the release of the latest full board game edition of the franchise! What I found was a fun and unique little racing game, with lots of fun to be had, especially for younger players!Things we liked:- The game was very simple to teach and explain - the how to play video definitely needed the rulebook to supplement, but we were able to get started in minutes.- The pop-up board and components over all are awesome! Especially the board, and the element of having a "normal" and a "chaos" track to flip to was quite interesting and left for lots of surpises!- No player elimination is a huge boon over the original game, especially for younger players who might get discouraged at getting knocked out of the action! The way the game works, it really can be anybody's game to win even if in last place!Things we wanted more of:- As it stands, the actions are relatively straightforward. Simple to understand, but also things felt a bit strategically lacking compared to the card game, without too many ways to control fate or mess with other players. Would love more actions and more variety of actions! Also, as powerful as the defuse is, we never saw one over two 4-player games.- Similarly, the move deck, while an interesting wrinkle on the kittens formula, felt a little sparse. We were reshuffling it a lot, and one card (the one looking for a move 4 or move 5) often led to goint rhoguh the whole deck. - As awesome as the pop-up board is, it did have some difficulty laying flat, and we all agreed it might struggle with durability over repeated playthroughs, though it held up ok for our gamesOverall, I would definitely play this again, especially for those who want a change of pace from regular Exploding Kittens or those who don't like the player elimination standpoint of EK. That said, we were all wishing for an expansion pack after just a couple games to mix things up - hopefully that is on the horizon in the future!

I’ve played a lot of board games, but I’ve never played one like this before! The board moves right under your player token and it’s super fun to come up with ways to make your opponents land on exploding kittens. My family had a blast playing this and it’s definitely going to become a staple for parties! The gameplay is pretty quick and unlike the Exploding Kittens card game, no one is eliminated in this game. This makes it more engaging for the whole group the entire time you’re playing, which is especially nice with younger ones. 10/10 would recommend!
