We recommend you try the following: Hold the plastic "collar" or neck of the pump (the part right below the rotating head) very firmly with one hand. It is important that the neck does not spin while you are trying to turn the top. Twist the head: With your other hand, turn the pump head counter-clockwise (to the left). The "Click": You may need to apply a surprising amount of pressure. You should feel a slight "pop" or see the pump head spring upward once it is unlocked. Look closely at the very top of the pump head. Most CeraVe pumps have a small embossed arrow or the word "OPEN" indicating the direction. Double-check that you are twisting in the direction the arrow points. Once the head has popped up, you may need to pump it 10 to 20 times to "prime" it. Because the cream is very thick, it takes a moment for the vacuum to pull the product up through the straw for the first time. Safety Tip: If the pump feels like it is going to break, do not force it to the point of snapping the plastic.
