safety first cabinet and drawer latches

Most magnetic cabinet locks use an internally mounted magnet-activated latch that stays hidden inside the cabinet. A magnetic key placed on the outside disengages the latch to open the cabinet. Many models also offer two operating modes—automatic locking when the door closes and a permanent-unlock mode for continuous access—so you can choose convenience or security.

Common materials include plastics such as ABS and polypropylene for housings and components, plus metal parts for hardware and catch mechanisms—often stainless steel or zinc alloy. Listings may mix plastic bodies with small metal hardware for durability.

Typical installation options are peel-and-stick adhesive mounts (tool-free), hardware/screw mounts for a more permanent fit, and pressure-mounted designs. Many products advertise tool-free assembly for quick setup, while screw-mounted installations are usually more secure and longer-lasting.

Many listings advertise quick installs, commonly stating that setup can be completed in under 10 minutes. Actual time will vary by latch type and whether you use adhesive mounts or screw installation.

To stay out of sight, many latches use internal or ultra-thin hardware that mounts inside the cabinet or sits flush with the door. These invisible or low-profile designs preserve the look of your cabinetry while providing childproofing.

Common locking mechanisms include magnetic locks (released with a magnetic key), spring-loaded latches, and adjustable strap-style locks. These cover a range of use cases from hidden magnetic systems to visible strap or latch solutions.

Some magnetic locks advertise a holding force of up to about 30 pounds in product listings. Several also note that you can reinforce the installation with screws for added security if needed.

Peel-and-stick adhesive mounts—often using strong removable adhesive—are marketed as tool-free and removable without residue, making them renter-friendly. Screw or hardware mounts are more permanent, typically require drilling, and may need patching when removed.
