Q: How long does this take to finish?

submitted by Jshep - 5 years ago
  • A: Well... it depends. If you play it the right way it will guaranteed take over a day. If you are good at puzzles and don't mind effectively breaking the game, you can solve it very very quickly by brute force. Roughly 45 minutes maybe, with no wait time required. Solving it the "correct" way without sequence breaks, I'd say maybe 4 hours (not including the forced 24 wait time)

submitted byRolf - 5 years ago
  • A: RobMo - You can most certainly finish the game in an hour. I finished it in about two hours. If you are a good puzzler there is nothing that requires you to wait the 24 hours. All of the things that happen after the 24 hours are interesting, but you literally only get one piece of information that you cannot get any other way, and that one piece of information can very easily be back-solved.

submitted byRolf - 5 years ago
  • A: Took me 2 hours. And I really took my time, went slow and enjoyed every second of it. (I didn't want to google or ask for help on any of the stuff, So I just sat there and thought)

submitted byZiggybits - 5 years ago
  • A: On day one, I took an hour or two. On day two, I finished the game in an hour or so.

submitted byDJ - 5 years ago
  • A: The '24 hour wait time' mentioned above is a bit of a red herring and you don't actually have to wait 24 hours. There's a way to shorten that time without breaking the game.

submitted bySam Kimpton - 5 years ago
  • A: I spent about an hour or so on it, but I'm a pretty hardcore puzzler and know a lot of trivia. It could take a little longer if you need to research and such.

submitted bySJenks - 5 years ago
  • A: If SJenks actually finished the game, they would know it is not possible to complete in an hour. Anymore said would be spoilers.

submitted byRoMo - 5 years ago

Q: Can you play the game more than once? Or once it is finished is the game you are just done with it?

submitted by Jess L - 5 years ago
  • A: When you complete the game you get access to a video that tells you how to reset the game to the beginning

submitted bytonythejetsfan - 5 years ago
  • A: I'm going to say this is a one and done kind of deal. Once you figure out all the codes and stuff then you'll already know where to look/how to find them/what they are the next time you play. Takes the whole discovery and reaction part of the game away.

    submitted bySpencer P - 5 years ago
  • A: One time Play Through. However you can box it all back up and share with a friend. I would however buy them a copy and have them go through the experience from a fresh new box.

submitted byZiggybits - 5 years ago
  • A: You are done, but it is possible to reset to share with a friend.

submitted byRoMo - 5 years ago

Q: I understand this is for one player, but can two people play at different times - e.g., if I try it, can my spouse then play on his own, or is it once and done? Also, is there any content that's inappropriate for an 11 year old? Thanks!

submitted by Jane Doe - 5 years ago
  • A: I played this with my wife in the next room. Without giving anything away, even though she was in the next room, I had to take extra precaution not to reveal anything audibly as I played through this game. She questioned some odd behavior of mine that I had to make excuses for. I look forward to seeing her reactions when she gets a chance to try. Nothing inappropriate comes to mind, for 11-year olds. You are definitely allowed (almost encouraged) to look up trivia questions online, for questions that might not make sense to him/her.

    submitted byThanh P - 5 years ago
  • A: You can definitely reset it, easily. However, my husband and I played together and it was just fine!

submitted byScearce Coursers - 5 years ago
  • A: Yep, you can reset it and have your spouse play later! You can technically play together, but it's designed for one at a time. Nothing inappropriate for 11 year old, but they might need a little bit of help along the way!

submitted bygeorgej - 5 years ago

Q: Do you have to play this continuously or can you play and pick up where you left off another day?

submitted by Clyde - 5 years ago
  • A: You can easily pick it back up. It took me 3 days because I had things going on where I had to stop.

submitted byWermesJC - 5 years ago
  • A: You can set it aside and continue on another day.

    submitted byStephen N - 5 years ago

Q: Could a whole family play this game? I want to give it to my sister's family of six for Christmas.

submitted by JM - 5 years ago
  • A: My husband and I played with our kids (ages 9, 11 and 14). We bought it from the original retailer though, not at this inflated price.

submitted byJen - 5 years ago
  • A: It is meant for one player, although I think it could be played with two people. I would not recommend it for more than that. The game can be played and then reset for the next person.

submitted byAScott - 5 years ago

Q: Do you need internet access for any parts of this game?

submitted by Elaine - 5 years ago
  • A: Yes, the internet is required to play. Portions of the experience require access to a website.

submitted bykaysch - 4 years ago

Q: Does each copy of Box One have a different resolution or are all copies the same?

submitted by Youstonian - 5 years ago
  • A: All copies are the same. My partner and I both played it at the same time (two separate boxes, in different rooms), but when comparing notes, all questions, answers, puzzles, and solves were the same on both games.

submitted byEric - 5 years ago

Q: If I play it and finish could other members of my household play it without needing anything? I love games but don’t want to play it and then not have my wife or kids be able to play it as well.

submitted by Justin - 5 years ago
  • A: It can be reset at the end for other people.

    submitted byStephen N - 5 years ago

Q: I am unable to register as overseas. In UK. Why wont international site work properly

submitted by Kenny Hazlie - 5 years ago
  • A: Set your browser to use english US as its language. Been a big headache for me as well.

    NO SPOILERS HERE!

WOW! Obviously this is a one time play but the money is worth it. A game made for one, but my husband and I played for two on our late night date nights (no baby sitter needed). Fun, unique and intricate if you love puzzles and thinking is entertaining this is for you. NPH says Escape Room in a box and it is extremely accurate. You do need to have a grasp on technology and internet handy. But everything else you need is in the box.

Fun and just the right amount of challenge!

This was such a fun game. It can be played by one person, but my daughter and I did it together. Very interactive, lots of surprises. You do need internet access. Challenging but not frustrating. I can’t wait to play Box Two!

Box ONE and Box TWO: Different but both GREAT

Over the past week, I played Box ONE and Box TWO. In reverse order (for no reason other than I bought them in reverse order). They're both very different and separate experiences, with some common glue: namely, NPH as a main character in the narrative! This review is of Box ONE, so I'd say of the two: Box ONE has the more intense narrative of the two (with some great drama to it!). It's exciting and unique. Box TWO has a bit more design and engineering brilliance to how it's constructed (physically), but they're both really solid and impressive games, especially for the price. Most other "escape" style games of this sort that I've played have been almost double the price, or more.

Like an escape room in a box!

Loved this. My family loved Box ONE and Box TWO, but you don't have to play them together (they're separate experienced). Highly recommended!

    Greatest Escape Game to Date

Box One is full of surprises! It uses physical elements to help assist with solving puzzles, but also utilizes technology to drive the story. This game requires internet to play. It's not a negative because it isn't the driving force for playing the game. This can be played with two people to help figure out the puzzles, but there isn't enough to do for two people to really enjoy the game. It is best played alone. The game is not replayable by the same person because all of the secrets are revealed, but it can be reset if pieces are handled carefully to be passed on to a friend to give a try. If you enjoy escape room games, this is the closest I've come to feeling like an actual room. I've played multiple types of escape games and participated in rooms and I really enjoyed this one!

    Incredible experience

This game was rated highly for a reason. It's amazing how well thought out everything was. Without spoiling anything, you have to follow the instructions to a tee and not get ahead of yourself. There are instructions to reset the game. I was able to play it again with my daughter a couple years later then reset the game again and gifted it to my sister. And if you haven't seen it, Target now has BOX TWO!

Overpriced for the length of play

It wasn't quite what I expected. I went in thinking it was a sort of puzzle, escape room type of game and it was, BUT I thought, based on the teaser I had seen, that the play would last longer or that it could be changed up and played again somehow. A lot of work went into the design of the game and that's obvious. So in this sense, I completely understand the price point. The fact that you can only play it once however leaves something to be desired. There's the additional issue that we discovered a few things before we were supposed to which made the game less streamlined than it should have been. It was enjoyable to play, but if I hadn't gotten it at 50% off I wouldn't have found it to be worth it.

    Surprising!

I'm going to have to be vague with my review because I don't want to give anything away. Blew my expectations out of the water! I didn't really know what to expect, but I love how the game transitions from trivia to almost like an escape room. The quality of this game was incredible, I can't believe I got it on sale for only 24 dollars! I would have expected it to be like a 60 dollar game (or more). I will say I did have a few cons. The video clips were cheesy. Game play was too short, and I didn't like having to wait 24 hours to continue the game (I think they did that on purpose to make the game last longer). A lot of clues were too easy, and I found clues sooner than I was supposed to, so it kind of took away some of the "magic." I still enjoyed playing and feeling like a spy and it did get my brain and adrenaline pumping. I would definitely buy box two (if they came out with one).

    Not Worth The Price

As someone who has played other escape room type games like the Exit The Game series, I found Box One to be very mediocre at best. I discovered a lot of pieces sooner than I was supposed to and nothing stumped me at all. They also have a ridiculous mechanic about halfway through the game that makes you wait 24 hours to continue. It’s as if the producers of the game realized it was too simple and they needed a way to make it feel longer. I probably could’ve solved the whole box in under an hour otherwise. If you’ve never played any games similar to it, you might enjoy some of the secrets the game has to offer. But otherwise I suggest saving your money for something better.
