While still under warranty, the lid stopped working despite all troubleshooting efforts. I contacted ninestars for a repair/replacement, and was told the "replacement lid is currently out of stock. We are still waiting on our next shipment, and although we do not have an exact restock date yet, we will send it to you as soon as it becomes available." They could not give me a date when to expect a replacement which is frustrating for what I paid for the trash can. They would not even give a refund or send a new product. This is the second Ninestars trash can I have owned. The lid on my first one managed to last past the warranty. Given unreliable customer service and poor quality products, I do not recommend this product.

Outside beautiful, inside disappointing
I very much wanted to like this trashcan, as the out of side of it is beautiful! The raising and closing of the lid for motion sensor is excellent. And no other trash cans have this beautiful shape that would perfectly fit our kitchen. However, I ended up returning this beautiful trashcan, because I did not want to use any form of liner bag with the recycling side. This trash trashcan does not have hard plastic liners, so if the plastic bag, brakes or leaks, it will spill out under the entire trashcan, all of the beautiful stain stainless steel will be soaked with trash if the bag liner breaks. I only want trash cans that have hard plastic liners that can be completely removed. This makes it so that I can easily dump my recycling straight into my recycling bin for outside disposal without having to use a bag. This did not meet my criteria. The liner ring that is supposed to keep a back in place also looked rather flimsy and I don’t think it would last five years. If they could sell this with the hard plastic liners for each side, I would buy one in a heartbeat.

Do not purchase
Very unhappy with this trash can. The motor stopped working in less than a year. Since the product is within warranty, I have emailed the company and filed a warranty claim, but have not received any response at all. Very disappointed with the poor service.

Broke!
So upset! I have had this trash can for a little over a year and now the lid isn’t opening and shutting anymore. It just makes a strange noise and doesn’t work! Poor quality. Do not recommend .

Buy another larger trashcan so that you can toss this product out
Had this trash can from September 2023 until April 2024 when the lid started making strange noises and would not fully open. I took the lid apart and found that the motor housing had cracked. Reached out to the manufacturer to see if they could send replacement lids, no response. Went back to an old standard non-motorized trash can that can last for years.

Love this trash can
Love this trash can. Definitely recommend. It takes 3 D batteries that fit on the bottom side of the cover. 2 separate/equal sized compartments once top is open to keep recycle and trash separate. Very easy to wave hand to open, closes automatically. Or you can press the open/close button to keep it open indefinitely.

Broken lid within a month
Got for a wedding present and the lid broke within a month. Not it won’t open with the motor. I changed the batteries to make sure they weren’t the cause and then I tipped the lid over to change them there was a rattling in the motor area. Do not buy. Not with it.

not worth it long-term

Broken
I like this can at first all though I do wish there was the option to charge it. After 1 year, the motor in the lid broke and it no longer opens properly.

It's trash
Not sure how this trashcan has a five star rating. I’ve had mine for less than a year and the top no longer works. I have two friends that have the same one and have the same problem!! It is obviously a product issue. Yes I can open it manually now that it’s broken however that’s not why anyone buys this, AND no matter how hard you try it will not stay all the way closed. It’s great for a couple of months but after that it becomes trash itself

There's no removable bin for the recycling so you have to line it with a trash bag and take it out to dump it since you can't recycle them together. It could be a little bigger but other than that it is great. It doesn't take up a lot of space and the decals are magnetic so you can switch them if you want. For the price, it's well worth it.

How Bags Fit and More
Like many shoppers, it wasn't obvious to me how the can held the bags since it didn't come with separate bins. Thus, I am providing the missing photos of the "hidden black plastic bag holders." Also, I will recommend this can for those needing an ADA option since it requires no fancy footwork. It was simple to set up. Even FedEx did not dent it prior to its arrival. The stainless steel color is identical to 2019 Kitchen Aid stainless steel. And finally, it gives you something to do with D batteries besides 1980s flashlights--that's something that your money cannot buy in other places!!
