Apply liberally 15 minutes before sun exposure. Be careful not to miss sensitive areas like the tops of the ears, back of the neck, lips, top of the head and your feet. To decrease this risk, regularly use a sunscreen with a Broad Spectrum SPF of 15 or higher and other sun protection measures including: limit time in the sun, especially from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. wear long-sleeved shirts, pants, hats, and sunglasses children under 6 months: Ask a doctor.

Our story begins with the need for a sunscreen brand that caters exclusively to women of color.

From carrying expensive umbrellas to the beach to avoiding the sunshine all together, women of color have come up with their own methods of protecting their skin. For years, sunscreen has been tailored to light skin individuals, leaving behind a visible white-residue on our darker skin sisters. Blotchy makeup and white residue were enough to keep people from truly enjoying a beautiful sunny day. Our founder thought it was about time to change that.

In 2016, Shontay Lundy created Black Girl Sunscreen, a 30 SPF lotion infused with natural ingredients and formulated for women of color. Made with melanated skin in mind, BGS dries completely clear and protects melanin without the white-cast.

Today, BGS is making moves! Black Girl Sunscreen has grown exponentially because of you.     Still a fan

    This does the job, well. But there is a bit of a grey tint to it and makes you rub it in more than I would have wanted to…I prefer it seep into the skin when a thin layer is applied. It’s more watery than their spf 30 (which goes on like lotion and smells fabulous) but for the extra protection…I can deal until I use it all up (then switch back to the 30).

    Love this product!

    [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I love sunscreen for Black Girls! I keep at least two bottles on hand. I use the OG 30 spf, the matte spf, and the lipgloss. I do find the taste of the lipgloss to be a bit bitter but it does its job. I have an interracial family and we all use it.

    Eh slight white cast and not a big fan of the scent

    Bought it thinking it was the 30 and I am not a big fan. The smell is weird but not necessarily bad. I’m Latina and olive skinned and there is definitely a slight white cast compared to the 30. The only plus is that I have textured skin and the other one is more dewy so it can make me look greasy (but moisturized) . I’m still going to use it but so far the smell is not doing it for me .

    Never again!!!!! After one day of use, my face completely welp up and now my face is completely swollen!! My face has been itchy for days now!!     Best body sunscreen on the market in my opinion

    This is my go-to sunscreen. It doesn’t leave a white cast. It’s not super thick and chunky so it rubs in well and easily. I love the lavender scent, it’s super relaxing. It’s a little strong at first but fades. I have sensitive skin and I never have any problem when wearing it. I need barrier protection too because I have a chronic illness and my skin tends to be very sun sensitive. This works great so I don’t have to cover up in the sun all the time. I also love that I can skip regular lotion and just apply this if I’d like, it’s pretty moisturizing. I don’t use this as my facial spf, but rather for my body so I appreciate not having to apply two separate moisturizers. I only have three complaints. 1. I’d prefer if it were all mineral 2. I wish it came in a pump so I don’t have to keep opening and closing it when I apply 3. I need a bigger a size. Sunscreen should be worn daily after all.

    First time white cast

    I have the SPF 50 hybrid... it leaves a white cast. this is my first time experiencing this in the 5 years of using only this sunscreen. Maybe its a high spf idk but. . i hatee itt

    TERRIBLE

    Do not purchase this unless you want terrible skin. It’s super oily and disgusting and it left me with so many pimples and dark spots. I wish I could go back in time and throw this crap in the trash. I’m still trying to repair my skin and I’m in tears daily. Don’t buy this !!!! I’ve attached a before and after for reference

    Don't recommend :/

    Right when I put it on, I noticed there was a minimal whitecast due to the zinc oxide. After reapplying, the whitecast became more obvious on my face. During the 1st application, I would occasionally itch my face. However, it got much worse after I reapplied this sunscreen since the bottom half of my face became super itchy. By the time I got home and washed it off, my face was left with small bumps and appeared super dry / red. It seems like I’m not the only one dealing with these problems based on the previous reviews. You’re better off trying the 30 SPF or the kids version!
