Q: Is the gallon jar freezer safe ?

  • A: I did not know these jars are for dry only. Ive been making soup and freezing them. I don’t fill to the top and I add cloth bowl cover or foil to the top before closing the lid. I have noticed my food doesn’t get frostbite. One customer mention it should say for dry food.

    Sticky wont come off

    As others posted, the adhesive is so frustrating! It leaves sticky residue on the jar and lid. I used cotton balls and isopropyl alcohol to scrub it and was able to get the jars good but the lid is still not great. And honestly I didn’t buy new jars to have a “restoration project” of trying to get this sticky residue off all afternoon. I want to return the other ones.

    Hi Mikp, thank you for sharing your review of the Ball 1gal Glass Storage Jar Clear. We are sorry to hear you had an issue with removing the adhesive. Our suggestion for removing our labels (or, even the store’s price stickers) is a little cooking oil. We have confirmed that many common household aerosol cooking sprays i.e. (olive oil, canola oil) containing Soy Lecithin are effective at removing that adhesive residue on the glass jars. You should first peel off the label, removing the paper based exterior layer Washing the label with a cloth or sponge in warm soapy water can help remove this layer. From there, spray the remaining residue with the cooking oil, allowing it to sit at least 30 minutes to penetrate the adhesive residue. Clean the area with warm soapy water to remove the oil and adhesive residue. Repeat until all adhesive is removed.

    Good jars but sticker adhesive hard to get off

    Too much work to remove manufacturer’s stickers on the lid and on the jar. Please make them easier to remove! Soaking did not help, needed chemicals.

    Beautiful decorative jar

    Good quality, strong glass. I use it for my excess diamond painting drills. The only problem I had was removing the adhesive on the packaging tape, it took a bit of effort.

    Highly recommend! Great size for bulk dry foods! Seals well with rubber gasket in lid.

    I store my white ice cream grits from Nora Mills Grainary in Helen GA. They keep them dry and free of bugs. The look of the jars is beautiful on the counter. I use another to store my traditional oatmeal and a third to store jasmine rice and/or flour. The size is excellent. The jar top is metal with a rubber ring inside to seal. Well worth the investment. I love the 1 gallon size! Wish that Ball had a 2 gallon jar to store rice in a larger quantities. Blessings.

    Junk top

    The top isn’t the correct jar top to vacuum seal! Wanted to put pickles or other large garden items in for storage.

    be prepared-the adhesive is terrible on the lid and glass

    This adhesive is ridiculous. I should have read previous reviews! Be prepared because apparently this has been going on for over two years and they haven't done anything about it!

    24oz not 128 oz

    I bought it through pick up at store because i had no time to go in and do myself… and they literally gave me a 24 oz jar with a sticker of 128 oz and the workers literally had a hard time comprehending 24oz from 128 oz :/ i had to spend more on something not even close to what i needed and i had to go in the store and waste time i didnt have in the day to “fix” it myself because workers couldn’t bring the right item to customer service they brought another 24oz with a 128 oz label 😬… smh target false marketing with your labels and your workers ..

    Horrible lid, not at all secure on glass container

    I picked it up in the store and the lid slid right off. Even though it’s a screw-top design, the lid comes right off. NOT a secure, sturdy seal at all. The glass container can easily fall and shatter. I was excited because the glass is thick and sturdy which is hard to find in a container but the lid design makes this a 0/5

    GREAT jar... just not for hot-bath canning

    I wanted to put up a lot of eggs B4 the chickens stopped laying. The jar holds 40 eggs - not bad. The jar is NOT for hot-water bath canning - but it's airtight and will keep the eggs until the winter.
