A: Open the air vent on the handle all the way for plush carpet ..it helps reduce suction but still will pick up dirt and hair.

A: For the Shark NV181, only the foam and felt filters are washable. Rinse them with water and let them air dry for 24 hours. The HEPA filter is not washable; tap it gently to remove dust or replace as needed.

A: I use a little bit of Dreft laundry detergent in warm water to wash the foam filter. Works well without ruining the foam!

A: I use mine on hard surfaces. Just make sure you turn off the brush roller.
