    Instinct® 3 – 50 mm, Solar Review

    I always thought that having a larger watch face would be annoying but luckily was wrong. Compared to my original first gen Garmin Solar, this watch, the Garmin Instinct 3 Solar is super easy to read regardless of the lighting and isn’t so big to seemingly get in the way. Plus, I like all the added features versus my previous watch. Very satisfied customer. A++

    Not syncing up with Garmin cont.

    I am still learning the watch, but right now I do not feel that it syncs up with the Garmin dog controller. Distances are different all the time, and the arrows never match what the controller is showing so I can not trust it

    Great features, takes a while to learn them.

    I bought my Instinct 3 solar Sept 28, 2026 and spent a full week learning how to use its five buttons to navigate its rich capabilities. It did not come with a user’s manual and the 106 page online manual was not very helpful in learning how to use it. The best approach I found was to ask google how to do whatever I wanted and follow the steps it provided. For those without a photographic memory, take notes. I used it on a half marathon trail race Oct 10, 2026 and it worked perfectly. The activity screen I used constantly displayed the time, distance, speed, heart rate, and altitude. The heart rate measurements using only the watch seemed quite accurate and I was glad to get rid of the chest straps of the past. The battery drain (using the GPS) was only 4% per hour. There are also a number of useful health features like the sleeping resting heart rate and variability.

    Ruggedly handsome and versatile

    This is my 3rd Garmin (Fenix 5S, Vevo, Instinct). I am a big fan of Garmin. I love the look of the Instinct 3 Solar and the features are great. The UI does take some getting used to (and after two weeks, I'm still working on it). Also, I wish it was easier to get out of sleep mode temporarily (say at 1am). Garmin also offers an extensive offering of custom watch bands, which I am utilizing. The watch may be a bit heavy for some folks, but it is a rugged version and none of my nits should stop anybody from considering the Instinct watch from the excellent Garmin brand. In about 17 days, the battery life has gone down 13 days, so the solar seems to be working to extend its operating length.

    Simple but powerdul

    I didn’t know if I would like the buttons as opposed to the touchscreen, but I do. I like the simplicity of the monochrome display. It has everything I need in a watch. I like the battery life! I bought the 50mm size and really like it as well.

    i love it! the solar is so quick to respond in the sun. the screen is so bright and clear. my only wish was to be able to put a different color ring versus the orange. i like the orange but wish i would have bought the tactical instead with the black band. other than that, i love it.

    Inaccurate steps

    I like the product….but the steps are not working correctly. If I’m pushing a shopping cart in a store it won’t track my steps, but it will track steps if I’m sitting at desk and I move my arms. This is inaccuracy that is hard for me to wrap my mind around.

    Dog Tracker

    Bought this new Instinct to replace my old 5yr old Instinct. Battery seemed to die fairly quickly on my old unit. Primarily bought this new unit for time, date and tracking my bird dogs in the field during the field competition.

    great watch

    I love my new Instinct 3 - 50 mm, solar. I had the opportunity to run the hunt app...tracked me everywhere. I didn't turn it off when moving to another location in a vehicle, but the tracking never lost any of the track. I still have more to learn what I want to use most, this watch is so packed with capability. Love the 40day battery life.

    Better GPS than previous versions. More sensors. Nice upgrade from the original. Just wish the charging connector could somehow be USB-C and the straps always irritate my skin if worn to long.

    For an old person, this watch is very difficult to Figure out. Unfortunately, It is probably due to placing so many functions On one watch. To make them available Readily through buttons. Through three buttons primarily. This means That you have to become familiar with the functions which are vast. I think the idea of One size fits all Doesn't work. It would probably be better to design Speciality watches to fit different lifestyles. But of course Because everyone likes to have Everything at our fingertips. So I offer no solutions but only complaints and I'm sorry . I do like The ability to track my sleep, my exercise, And my heart rate. Thanks!

    The solar charging and larger face are nice. Still getting used to it but miss my Vivio at times. Lots of features I still haven’t figured out but will get there someday. Watch face apps are OK but no color just black & white. Having continuity with Garmin Connect app is great though.

    Could not be more happy with this watch. It does everything I need and them some. The battery is ridiculously good. Over 40 day battery life and was even able to get an extra day through the solar. Didn't think it would really work but it did.
