Q: Does this watch contain the metal Nickel on any part of it? I'm highly allergic to it.
submitted by Juniper - 3 months ago
A: Hi, thanks for reaching out about Garmin vivoactive 6
Since you have a high sensitivity to nickel, you’ll be happy to hear that the Garmin vívoactive 6 (launched in April 2025) is one of the safer models for your skin type, though there is one specific part to watch out for. Unlike many other smartwatches that use stainless steel (which contains roughly 10% nickel), the vívoactive 6 features an anodized aluminum bezel. Aluminum is generally nickel-free and much safer for people with your allergy. The main body of the watch is made of a fiber-reinforced polymer (a high-grade plastic). This part sits against your skin and is completely non-metallic and inert. The small metal buckle on the silicone strap is typically made of stainless steel. While Garmin uses high-quality 316L stainless steel that meets international "low nickel release" standards, it still contains trace amounts of nickel.

I bought this a month ago, and it mostly is fine. I am annoyed that the sleep feature will not track if I wake up and fall back asleep to factor that into my sleep score. I often wake up at the same time every day and am able to fall back asleep, but if I am up for more than 5 minutes, the watch will not track the rest of the sleep even if it's more than an hour. This is disappointing to me.

Excellent
Love it, easy to use, see, hear. I only wish there were smaller bands available for this watch the nylon band stretches quickly and is very long. Easy to clean and comfortable to use sleeping.
I'm happy

No Screen Reversal
I'm replacing my 10 yr old Vivoactive 3. It appears that there is no way to reverse the screen on the Vivoactive 6 so I can wear in on my left wrist. All the instructions say to go to the "Settings- Systems-Orientation", however there is no "Orentation" option on the Vivoactive 6. The only option I could find is to reverse the wrist bands.

Disappointed.
I bought this product last week and activated it a few days ago. So far it has not lived up to expectations. It doesn't count the steps properly. Sometimes it doesn't count them at all or plays catch up. Yesterday it was over 4,000 steps short versus my Fitbit. Today so far it is just under 800 steps short versus my Fitbit. My wife had a Garmin in the past and had issues with it and switched to a Fitbit. I thought I would give Garmin another try. A lot of money for something that can't accurately count steps. Done with Garmin.

Hate It
I don’t love it at all because I can’t figure anything out and I can’t get any help. Also I’m 25 this shouldn’t be an issue.

Great features!
I am still trying to familiarize myself with all of the features. Have been using Garmin watches for many years and I'm always surprised at all the new features that are packed into it. I match it with a Garmin body scale, and a Garmin blood pressure cuff to keep track of all health related info. All my stats are downloaded in the Garmin Connect app, and I can track it on my laptop, phone, or watch. Great product(s)!

Very happy with it after 1 month. I do wish the vibration for notifications was stronger. But, it tracks so many useful things and is amazing.

Great watch, amazing features!
Excellent watch! It stays charged for so long. I usually charge it when I shower so I can basically wear it all day. I am excited to use it to train for an upcoming marathon. Very easy to use, and I love seeing all of the stats it collects overnight and during the day .

What a great Watch!
I love my vivo active 6 Garmin! I have used a Fitbit for ten years and when I was on vacation it died. My husband suggested a Garmin. He just happens to have one too. Anyway, I loved it right out of the box! It came in record time and in great condition. I am not much of a tech person, but this was so easy to set up and get going. I learn something every day that I can apply to my health and fitness. It even tells me good morning and good evening every day. Such a nice touch. They thought of everything. Love my Garmin.

Love!
I switched from Apple to the vivoactive 6. I’m impressed with the garmin, wish I would have switched sooner. I love that it’s primarily for health and fitness. I enjoy the minimal notifications. The tracking is also very accurate.

From avoiding smart watches to huge fan!
I have been using it for 3 weeks. Haven't worn a watch in several years. This watch is lightweight, and you can forget you have it on. Its fantastic. Im not tied to my phone anymore. It integrates seamlessly with ither apps like noom and strava. its motivated me to move more, join attainable challenges, and steadily improve and compare previous stats. It recommends sleep duration, and recovery from harsh activities. Reviews your quality of sleep and body battery. So far, no complaints

Maybe I got a Lemon
This is my 4th or 5th different Vivoactive. I love them only upgrade to next model because I beat mine up. So with my new Half Dome training I wanted the new 6 to track HR and have new features. Sadly it is Not tracking HR. It will have me at 64 to 78 on leg day when Im dying. I check pulse and it will be 140 to 155. If I press watch down it works. I have played with tightness, location and cleaned. Only works well when pressed down. Maybe after all the good Ive had I got a lemon? Never had any of these issues with any of the other models. I work as a personal trainer and Im ALWAYS recommending Garmin.
