A: No, it is a drain strainer only. It does not stop up the drain for filling the sink with water.

Q: Does the outer rim have a silicone liner underneath it, or is just the basket made of silicone?

A: Hi there! The outer rim of our Sink Strainer does have silicone underneath of it. This silicone is connected to the silicone basket/strainer.

Q: Will this item work over a garbage disposal opening. I.E., how deep does it go into sink. If this strainer would just catch smaller scrap items I'd rather go this route.

A: Hi! The strainer is quite deep and will sit 4cm/1.6 inches in the drain. Measurement taken from the underside of the lip to the lowest point of the drain basket.

Q: Previous OXO strainers I have had developed a bad smell over time. Is this model prone to that problem? If so, how can the smell be prevented?

I was hesitant to buy this at first, since I have only used the mesh strainer that is cheaper. But after a few weeks with this one, I am loving it. The holes are bigger so thicker liquids don’t stop it up like I experienced with the mesh kind. It drains a lot quicker than the other kind as well. I was worried that bits of food would go down the drain since the holes are bigger, but that is not the case. I’d recommend this product!

Buying this item helped me realize how much I hate silicone material + pulling the thing out will cause food to bounce out. Just get one of those stainless steel mesh ones from an asian supermarket, much cheaper and overall better in my opinion.

This is the best sink strainer I've ever owned. It fits over the drain really well. the only downside is the rubber is really grippy. That works well for stopping smaller particles from going down the drain but it also has some things stick to it. I've tried a few different ones and I swear by this model.
