Intense Action
5 out of 5 stars
Deana - 4 years ago
Nothing gets my attention more than an explosive start to a book. A plane crash in the mountains opens up this fast paced story and gains momentum as each chapter unravels. I love how the author has characters that are determined, fierce and a little history between them. The action is chaotic at times and keeps me bolted to my chair. I couldn’t wait to see what mystery I would try to solve. It is easy to like Jack because he is the type that takes charge and never gives up. There is something in his past that distracts him at times but that just makes him a little mysterious at times. Maybe it’s the job he does that causes him to be so intense at times. Coming onto the scene is Terra. Now she is a little complicated as she has this thing about proving herself. Oh and did I mention that her and Jack have a past together. I really liked learning about artifacts and National Parks. It intrigued me to find out that there are people willing to go to great links to take valuable and historical items from their natural in-habitat. With a possible smuggling ring going on, bodies piling up and danger everywhere this is one of my favorite books from the author. I don’t want to give much detail because then you will know the whole story. I do know that the author throws in twists that had me shaking my head. I just knew I had figured out everything and bam she kicks it up a notch. Be ready for a few hours of intense drama that will leave you looking for more books from this very talented author. I received a copy of this book from The Librarything Early Reader Program and the author. The review is my own opinion,

This is book 1 of the brand new series called “Rocky Mountain Courage”. I have read many books by this author so I couldn’t wait to get my hands on this new book and start a new series! I enjoyed being taken into the world of artifacts and learning about the history and unfortunately the world of smuggling rare and lost historical pieces. Terra and and Jack were great characters and worked well together as they begin to investigate a murder in the national forest which leads them down a dark road. Lots of suspense, drama, and adventure with twists and turns. I really enjoyed it and can’t wait to read the next book! I received a copy of this book complimentary for blog and social media review. All opinions are my own.
Exciting Romantic Suspense

Present Danger is an exciting opening to Elizabeth Goddard's Rocky Mountain Courage series! This book has well-developed, relatable characters, a many-layered plot, and plenty of excitement and danger. Terra and Jack, the main characters, are both in law enforcement. They had gone their separate ways after high school, but are now working together to solve a multi-agency case. They both have troubled family backgrounds that they are working to overcome. They also found themselves working to develop trust between them. I loved the suspense in this book. Reading this story quickly became a situation where I needed to look over my shoulder, because I never knew what would happen next, or whom to trust. The romance moved slowly, as it should in a situation where lives are at stake. I highly recommend this book to readers of romantic suspense. It is a solid read from beginning to end. I received a copy of this book from the publisher, Revell, for review purposes. The thoughts expressed here are my own.

Exceptional Romantic Suspense!

She's done it again! Author Elizabeth Goddard has written a story that kept me totally immersed with the characters and their unpredictable lives. I'm always amazed at Goddard's ability to create characters that are both intriguing and endearing. Terra Connors and Jack Tanner each have trust issues, and they both have questions about their faith, but their biggest hurdle may be in recognizing their true feelings for each other. A love they believed long dead and buried may still exist, but is it possible to forget past hurts and hidden secrets? Trust, forgiveness, and God's Plan are key ingredients in this faith-filled story that also includes a large serving of romance. I recommend Present Danger to all who enjoy Christian romantic suspense and I look forward to the second book in the Rocky Mountain Courage series. I received an advanced reader's copy from the author and publisher. There was no obligation for a positive review. These are my own thoughts.
Best Suspense Read of the Year

Terra is a US Forrest Service Special Agent. Jack is former FBI now a detective for the Sheriff's Department. Jack has moved home to care of his aging aunt who raised him. Terra and Jack have history together and have gone their separate ways but when a murder in the National Forrest brings them together to investigate, they are both wondering what might have been. An international theft ring of protected historical artifacts has the agents on high alert and fearing for their lives and those of anyone connected. I have read Goddard’s work in the past, however, this book is my favorite. She does a wonderful job catching your interest in the very beginning and keeping you glued to the pages. I couldn’t get enough of this book with the many plot twists along with a complete surprise towards the end. WOW, just wow! I am, not so patiently, awaiting the next book in this series. The book is filled with nail biting suspense, intrigue and wonderful characters struggling to trust themselves and God's design for their lives. In order to move forward with their lives and this case, the characters must face their past hurts and mistakes and learn to forgive and love again. Definitely one of the best books I've read this year. I received a review copy of this book from the author. I am voluntarily leaving a review.
Epic Suspense Novel
4 out of 5 stars
Cindy D - 4 years ago
"Chance Carter should have known this last delivery wouldn't go down without a hitch." Elizabeth Goddard draws you into her riveting new novel, Present Danger, from the first line. This fast-paced, thrilling story will keep you on the edge of your seat until the last line. From the plane crash, the stage is set for a wild ride. "The direction your life takes can often come down to one decision one moment in time." It is not often you find such a profound statement in a suspense novel. But, Terra wonders if "this" decision is the one that could change the direction of her life. Feeling overwhelmed with the mounting evidence, but no substantial leads, Terra wonders what they could be missing. Adding emotional drama is the re-occurrence of Jack into her life. “This investigation was becoming complex in ways she hadn't anticipated.” Nor could the reader have anticipated all the twists and turns this story was going to take! It is difficult to determine who the bag guy is and what role everyone is playing. While there is a range of characters, they are introduced in a way that the reader does not get lost. I enjoyed this novel. The characters are well developed, the plot flows smoothly, and it has a satisfactory ending, even though the series will continue. The only thing that I did not like about this story is it was a second chance romance. I have read quite a few stories with a similar trope recently and it is starting to feel overdone. However, as I got further into the story I was so distracted with everything that was going on that I let it go and thoroughly enjoyed the story. I recommend this book to anyone who loves romantic suspense novels that are low on romance and high on suspense! Fans of Lynette Eason, Rachel Dylan, Lynn Blackburn, Dee Henderson, Patricia Bradley, Nancy Mehl, and the like will also enjoy this book. Thank you to Revell for the opportunity to read this book. I was not required to publish a positive review but am delighted to do so. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Suspenseful
5 out of 5 stars
Suspenseful - 4 years ago
This book is the first in the Rocky Mountain Courage series. It is full of suspense, twists and turns, and romance. US Forest Service Special Agent, Terra Connors and Former FBI Special Agent Jack Turner must work together to solve a murder. Years before Jack left Terra with only a note saying he was leaving to join the FBI, breaking her heart. As they work to solve a complex murder mystery they are dealing with past hurts and exploring this renewed relationship with one another. I thought this story was interesting and well written. It began with a rescue mission, and then moved to a murder mystery and eventually a crime of trafficking of archaeological artifacts. I appreciated the complexity and many surprises of the plot. There was plenty of action to keep the reader entertained and engaged. And the author kept the reader guessing who was bad guy and who was the good guy. The author also did a great job of connecting the many details of the plot and setting up the early parts of the story with subtle information that became relevant later in the story. I was slightly disappointed with the ending as it only solved a portion the crimes. The characters had depth even though they weren’t characters I was fully invested in. However, I did like how the author included different interactions with each of the main characters and other people important in their lives so that it showed a well-rounded portrayal of Terra and Jack. I would highly recommend this book if you like contemporary suspense and romance.
Gripping and entertaining novel
5 out of 5 stars

Present Danger, by Elizabeth Goddard, is the first book in the Rocky Mountain Courage series. Page after page, vivid storytelling is enhanced by a satisfying blend of of mystery, suspense, action, faith, and romance. Not only is this novel rich in setting, characterization, and plot, but the themes of truth, restoration, faith, purpose, and second chances add meaning to a gripping story that is truly entertaining. In Present Danger, forested mountains dominate the setting adding elements of natural beauty and inherent danger to the story. The setting is descriptively immersive and provides a multi-sensory experience within the novel. The slopes are steep and treacherous, the trails are long and isolated, and the trees are thick and concealing. As the story unfolds, the setting itself contributes its own sense of peril and secrecy. In addition to the setting, the compelling characters also make this book appealing. They are perceptive, vulnerable, and sincere. With authentic motivations and relatable insecurities, they are genuinely interesting. As they endeavor to piece together a growing number of clues that arise from difficult and dangerous events, they also search for purpose and meaning within their errors and decisions. As they draw closer to the solutions they seek, forgiveness, healing, and hope are given space to grow. With excellent pacing, the well-developed plot of this novel thoughtfully and creatively reveals relevant details. As important facts are carefully uncovered, so is the truth behind the destructive and troubling events the characters experience. Their attempts to discover the significance of uncertain events fosters a captivating reading experience. Ms. Goddard has succeeded in writing a novel that is very engaging and intriguing. With its indispensable setting, insightful characters, and riveting plot, Present Danger is certainly a special book. I wholeheartedly recommend it to all readers who enjoy clean, suspenseful, romantic fiction. *I was given a copy of this book by the publisher. A review was not required. The review I have written is voluntary and contains opinions that are entirely my own.

Present Danger is the powerful start to the Rocky Mountain Courage Series. This action-packed, suspenseful thriller kept me engaged and guessing from its dramatic take-off to its satisfying landing! The intriguing plot, though multi-layered, is easy to follow. It moves quickly filled with twists, turns, and surprising revelations. The artifact trafficking thread of the plot adds interest and shows evidence of extensive research. Detailed descriptions of the Montana mountain setting with its beauty and treachery add depth and authenticity to the story. The characters are believable and endearing. Although the romantic element takes a back seat to the action, the renewal of Jack and Terra’s romantic relationship, plagued by past failures and hurts, is heartwarming. I thoroughly enjoyed this book, and I look forward to reading the next book in the series. I received a complimentary copy of this book from the publisher. All opinions are my own.

FORGIVING THE PAST

“God, help us to catch him before someone else dies. Help us find him. Help us dig up the root of this whole mess,” Terra prays in Elizabeth Goddard’s novel, Present Danger. ~ What ~ The first in the Rocky Mountain Courage series, this three-hundred-and-eighty-four-page book targets those who enjoy a contemporary Christian romantic suspense involving stolen archaelogical artifacts, past love, and family secrets. Using no profanity, topics of murder and death may not be appropriate for immature readers. The ending includes author’s notes, acknowledgments, biography, and advertisements. Set in Montana, twenty-nine-year-old Terra Connors is a US Forest Service special agent who is thrown together with detective Jack Tanner when a body is found in the national forest. Due to their romantic past, Terra is overly guarded while Jack feels like a failure for having walked away from their relationship unexpectedly six years ago. The couple tries to tamper down their growing reconnection while trying to track down a killer with ties to dangerous trafficking of archaeological objects. ~Why ~ This romantic story is filled with suspense and drama as the pair works as a team to link stolen items to those involved, especially when Terra feels targeted and others are murdered. I liked the historical aspect of how relics can be stolen and illegally resold. The theme of forgiveness is poignant and tender. ~ Why Not ~ Those who do not like Christian romances will pass on this story that promotes praying to God while learning to forgive oneself and others. Although no eternal plan of salvation is discussed, it does have sporadic prayers to God. I found the ending complicated and a little confusing. ~ Wish ~ I wish the protagonists were not so indecisive on their feelings for each other. ~ Want ~ If you like a suspenseful Christian series that begins with two past lovers having to work together to catch a murderer, this is fast-paced with a surprising twist. Thanks to Revell for this complimentary book that I am under no obligation to review.

I was excited that this author had a new book coming out, and devoured it as soon as it came in the mail. Her first series with Revell Publishing was just plain awesome, and if this first book is a good sign that this series will be also. It is cool when an author brings characters from other books and series into another, and one of the main characters in this book was a minor character in the last book in the Uncommon Justice series....and a very likable character. There is non stop suspense in this book, and it was hard to put it down. I like it when I can figure out the who and sometimes the why, but Goddard kept the reader guessing on this one....and I like it when there are surprises too.....and there were a couple of surprises at the end of this book. The two main characters were very likable, and the romance angle was more realistic than most books in that they had had a dating relationship prior to this book. As is the case with her other books, this one left me wanting more, and I am already wanting to read book #2, which is due out in November of this year. I highly recommend this book that is full of suspense, drama, and romance. I was provided a copy of this book for review purposes. All opinions in this review are my own.
A great page turning romantic suspense!

I thoroughly enjoyed trying to figure out who was the murderer and who is behind the archeological theft and fencing of stolen artifacts in this page-turning romantic suspense! US Forest Service Special Agent Terra Connors is forced to work with her old flame Detective Jack Tanner to solve the murder and who is behind it. In working on this case, I love how they realize what is important to them, and how long-time mysteries in their own lives finally come to light. I highly recommend this multi-layered suspense story peppered with sigh-worthy romance to boot! I can hardly wait for the next book in this series. The first chapter for the next book can be found at the end of "Present Danger" My thanks to the author, publisher, and Net Galley for allowing me to read an early copy. All opinions are my own.

Present Danger by Elizabeth Goddard is the first book in her Rocky Mountain Courage series. US Forest Service Special Agent Terra Conners and former FBI Special Agent Jack Tanner are called in to investigate a dead body found in the national forest. What they uncover could cost them their very lives. Terra and Jack were a very likable team. I thought the chemistry between them made a very good balance for all the suspense and mystery in the story. The surprise twist at the end was awesome and very unexpected! A great beginning to the series. I received this book from the publisher for my honest review.

That time when you are reading a suspense novel and proclaim aloud, “Well, I didn't see that coming,” and it happens not once, but twice in Present Danger! This book is a great start to Elizabeth Goddard's new series, Rocky Mountain Courage, a tale wrapped around events of the past that come back to wreak havoc in the present. Grayback County Sheriff's Detective Jack Tanner and US Forest Service Special Agent Terra Connors must learn to forget the past they had and the future they wish for in order to work together to solve a case of antiquity smuggling which likely has led to murder. Goddard has written a well-laid plot with believable dialogue, and plenty of red herrings to keep her readers engaged as they follow Jack and Terra;s investigation. I am grateful to have received a complimentary copy of Present Danger from Revell via NetGalley without obligation. All opinions expressed here are my own.

You know when you're watching a suspenseful movie and you feel your body tense and you find yourself holding your breath? That was what reading Present Danger was like for me. The descriptions were so well written that I found myself drawn within the story. US Forest Service Special Agent Terra Connors and Grayback County Sheriff’s Detective Jack Tanner find themselves on the search together for missing twin girls. Thankfully the girls are found safe and sound, but while on the lookout, they find the body of a local man. With suspicions of foul play, they begin to investigate. I enjoyed the relationship between Terra and Jack. They have a history they must confront and their chemistry is obvious. The mystery of the story is multifaceted and I enjoyed learning some history of smuggled artifacts. And, of course, solving a murder or two is always an adventure! The layering of this story keeps pulling you in deeper and the culprits were quite the surprise! I really enjoyed this first book in Elizabeth Goddard's new Rocky Mountain Courage series. I'm very much looking forward to seeing what comes next! I received a complimentary copy of this book from the publisher. All opinions expressed are my own.
Heart-stopping mystery

Present Danger is a wow-I-did-not-see-that-coming kind of book. Having read one other book by Elizabeth Goddard, I kind of knew what to expect, and was not disappointed. The story starts out with a plane crash and the edge-of-the-seat action continues as the body count rises. The characters are colorful and riveting, as well as realistic and either likable, relatable, or despicable. Terra and Jack had been involved in circumstances previously, and things did not end well. I enjoyed watching their relationship begin again and evolve into more than colleagues looking for a murderer. The dialogue flowed seamlessly without sounding forced, and most of the book, with its non-stop action, was unpredictable. I like how the author revealed things layer by layer, keeping me wondering how scenarios were ever going to work out. Readers who love exciting, heart-stopping mysteries will not want to miss Present Danger. It keeps you eagerly reading until the very last page. It is the first book in the Rocky Mountain Courage series and I will be looking for the next to come. I was given a complimentary copy of the book from the publisher and was not required to write a review. The opinions are my own.

“Present Danger” is the first in a new series called “Rocky Mountain Courage”. In this novel, you will come to know where this series got its name and I really liked that part of this book. I am a big fan of books by Elizabeth Goddard. She always does an excellent job of bringing her characters and their world to life. This book is a romantic suspense and it definitely has a large amount of both throughout the entire thing. It also brings back some of her characters from her “Uncommon Justice” series of which I read the last two of the three. The good thing is that you do not have to have read that series but I will say it is also good. If you like puzzles and books that keep you on the edge of your seat then you’re going to love this one. Disclaimer: I received a free copy of this book in order to give an honest review.

If held on to long enough, bitterness, grudges and regrets can create monsters. Wow! The family secrets, people left behind, hidden agendas and more take the reader on a ride of mystery and intrigue not soon to be forgotten. Detective Jack Tanner and Special Agent Terra Connors have a somewhat muddy past - will they be able to set that aside and work together to solve this puzzle involving murder, trafficking of antiquities and more? The danger never ends for our crime fighting duo. A plane crash, forest fire, kidnapping, murders and more secrets put them and their coworkers in scary situations. If no one is willing to talk, will the murders ever end? This edition of Rocky Mountain Courage gives you many things to consider. How often do we cover things up with secrets that end up creating lasting differences in us and others all in the name of not wanting to cause pain? Do we end up creating monsters? This ARC was received through Revell, Baker Publishing Group and NetGalley. The comments and impressions are my own and were in no way solicited.
