Q: Should I add compost to the raised bed along with this soil?

submitted by Hattie - 2 months ago
  • A: Hi Hattie! Our Organic Raised Bed Soil is ready to use as is, but compost in raised beds can enhance plant growth by increasing nutrient availability, boosting moisture retention, and fostering loose, well-aerated soil perfect for root development. Adding 1–2 inches of compost annually to a soil mix improves fertility and yields, while excessive amounts can lead to nutrient imbalances and high alkalinity.

Q: Does the yucca extract add a significant amount to lead to the soil?

submitted by Hattie - 2 months ago
  • A: Hi Hattie! Yucca extract does not add lead or other heavy metals to soil. Feel free to reach out to contact@backtotheroots.com with any questions.

    Organic Soil

I just planted my herbs yesterday. I had prepared the organic soil in my new elevated raised bed for a couple of days in advance. The plants look very perky!

    Fungus gnat infested

Great soil on its own but I highly suggest purchasing elsewhere. Bag was INFESTED with fungus gnats that destroyed my plants. Target customer service was unhelpful and rude.

    Great drainage

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Used the back to roots raised bed mix for my new flower boxes by my front door. Soil has a great texture for maximum drainage. The soil is a good mix and had very little clumping coming out of the bag. Bag size was perfect for loading in my car and moving to my grow boxes. Fantastic product.

    Happy gardening!

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Using this to start my seeds inside and it’s been working great. I have the grow bags too so I will eventually fill those up with this mix and transplant my seeds into it. I don’t have any worries about the quality of the soil and the nutrients my plants will be getting.

    Great Soil

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] The soil is moist and nutrient dense and when filling the large pot and watering, seemed to retain water well and has a nice appearance. It was easy to use and plant with. Will be looking at other products from this brand.

Horrible Smell Had to Throw It Away Immediately

This is actually my first time ever writing a review, but I felt like I had to share this experience. I ordered this item through same-day delivery, and unfortunately, I had to throw it away immediately after receiving it. The smell was extremely strong and unpleasant, so bad that it made my entire apartment smell like sewage. It was unbearable, and I couldn’t keep it in my home. The bag itself was also very dirty, which made the whole experience even worse. Maybe I just received a bad one, but it was honestly horrible. I’ve never come across such an intense odor from soil before. I even felt bad for the delivery driver, as I can only imagine how strong the smell must have been in her car while transporting it.

Texture and results are most important.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I was finally able to try this back to roots raised bed mix. The Midwest weather is brutal. This soil is amazing! Very rich and soft. It offers great drainage and seems to be perfect for my plants.

    Great mix

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I love this raised bed mix! It’s super easy to use and my plants are loving it! I used it to refresh my beds and then planted some onion sets in it. So far, they are loving it and doing very well. The bag is a good size and I’m definitely looking to switch to this brand as I’m loving the results so far.

Early to say, but I like it so far

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I like the blend of this potting soil, it’s really loose and was easy to mix in with my other soil when prepping my raised beds for the year. It’s too early to know if the plants like it or not but we’ll see in a few months!

Great Organic Raises Bed Mix to the Roots.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Thank you to InFluenster and Back to the Roots for the complimentary bag of Organic Raised Bed Mix. This organic soil mix is made in the USA and comes in a 1 cubic foot bag ( 25.7 qt ) It’s blended with plant food, Yucca extract and Gypsum and it does not contain peat. It’s suitable for Herbs, Vegetables and Fruits plants. I use it to replace the soil in a wooden planter where the soil had deteriorated. The mix holds moisture well still providing good drainage, and it has no unpleasant odors. This is lightweight soil that is easy to use and drain well. After some time, I noticed healthier plants growth. Great for Herbs, Vegetables and Fruits plants.
