What a strong color but OMG! Don't do it in your bathroom, it will stain surfaces and skin. Use bleach to remove stains from tile and surfaces. Also box came with unusable gloves????? Flat and couldn't open

Midnight Tanzanite

I used the Midnight Tanzanite kit on my natural dark brown hair that has been professionally colored violet red. By no means does home hair color match the quality of salon hair color. Finances are tight right now so I was forced to give up my hair being professionally colored by my talented hair stylist. First, I would recommend applying petroleum jelly to your hair line and buying some hair dye remover wipes. I allowed the color to process in my hair for an hour. Unfortunately, my scalp and my hairline are stained purple which the directions in the kit warn about. The dye actually smells pleasant. My hair turned out a deep dark purple with my grays being a brighter lighter purple. What I really like about the Splat Midnight Kit is there is no pre-bleaching required. I also like that there is no mixing with Splat--one bottle does it all This was my first time using Splat. Surprisingly, my hair feels soft instead of dry. I still prefer having my hair professionally colored by my stylist. I also love that Splat is a cruelty free brand.

This brand use to be good. Mixing the dye was horrible, the color no longer comes in a tube, you have to squeeze it out of a pouch & that was messy. My hair was a dark burgundy before I dyed it & for some reason my roots came out blood red & the bottom of my hair came out darker then plum, more like blackish/Brown. I’ve been dyeing my own hair for 25yrs & never had this issue.

Did Not Lift. My Roots Were Left Bright Red And That Is All. It Was Messy & Hard To Get The Dye Out Of Bottle. And The Color Bleeds Bad!

Thank you for your feedback. We appreciate our customer's input. We're sorry you didn't have the experience you were looking for. Double lift is a color formulated for virgin hair. Double lift is applied to half an inch to an inch away from the scalp first then applied to the root area to prevent hot bright roots.

So I have always dyed my hair black since I was a teen I am currently 25 and dyed my hair black about a month ago, I used to try burgundy right after black but it would never show up it’d stay black and only the roots would be burgundy, this product speaks for its, double lift literally, first time I’ve tried a maroon hair dye after dying my hair black and it actually lightened my whole head to this beautiful purple red. This is by far one of the best hair dyes that does the job even after you dye your hair black. If you had opposite results you probably started at the roots. Always start at the bottom and work your way up. This is amazing!!!

Thank you for your feedback. We appreciate our customer's input. We're sorry you did not have the experience you were looking for. Double Lift is a double process color. It's a type of color that lifts and deposits on virgin hair only! If your hair is previously colored this product is not for you. Results will be unpredictable.

I used this product on bleached hair. Normally, I'm a dark brown. My hair was light blonde when I dyed it. There color came out perfect! It was messy, but the directions warned of that. My only complaint is it doesn't last very long even following the wash every 3 days recommendation.
Amazing color.

Great color payoff. Be careful, it will transfer to towels, surfaces and tee shirts if wet. But I love! Super pigmented.

Amazing! It does have a smell so dye your hair in a well vented area. Also, it does bleed a lot when I wash it. The color pay off is amazing though. Even on dark hair!

I have used several different Splat products. I think the bleach does a very good job. I usually use this brand for the bleach. I am allergic to the dye. I love the colors, so I will sit through the bad allergic reaction I have to it. I wish there was a way to fix the ingredient that causes my reaction.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I used my splat midnight scarlet hair color on two front strands of my hair. I was skeptical on using it because I read some reviews where it said that it will burn your scalp and hair. I think this stuff is great for Halloween costumes.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Before I dyed my hair it was a lighter brown on the bottom and this was perfect to cover it up and I wanted my hair to be a darker shade and when I opened it didn't smell bad which you can get from other hair color products. It didn't say for this box i needed to bleach my hair so I followed the rules to see what it would look like with on bleached hair.

Something in this product makes it very difficult to take out of the hair. The lighteners and direct dye lifts dont work to get it off the hair and actually pushes the color deeper into the hair makin it even brighter. making it impossible for stylists to get it out. The color wont come out of your hair so if you want a horrible pink tint in your hair for months on end without hope of getting it out go for it lol.
1 reply from Splat Hair Color team - 6 years ago
I totally apologize for your experience with our product. Here is some information that can help you understand direct dyes a little more. Hope this helps. Please feel free to contact us with further questions an concerns at customercare@splathaircolor.com.
Sometimes, using strong bleaches will make the direct dye go further into the hair shaft and lodge even more stubbornly inside the hair. There are ways to strategically fade or remove the direct dye but having it professionally done is COLOR CORRECTIVE.
(Color correction work includes working with removing artificial pigment, coloring hair with previous color history, or deepening or lightening more than 3 levels. )
There is NO GUARANTEE in removing direct dyes. It may take multiple sessions to achieve- it may even not be possible to completely remove without cutting it out. If its a blue, green, or teal-like hue, it can be VERY difficult to remove.
If you want to help the fade along you can do the following:
Use dish or liquid laundry detergent with harsh sulfates to aggressively emulsify out the color
Add 50o mg of crushed Vitamin C and/or Baking Soda to your professional level sulfate free shampoo (leave on for 45 minutes and rinse+condition)
Soak your hair in bath salts for 40 minutes then shampoo and condition
If you are asking a stylist to remove it, we recommend asking for a mild bleach+ clarifying shampoo with Olaplex treatment at the shampoo bowl. That way you are removing the color mildly, with a little insurance against breakage. This can remove some of the color and then the remainder can be bleached out once 90% faded.
