We grow about half an inch of new hair each month so in 4 to 8 weeks you’ll see a clear difference between the dyed hair and your natural hair color in the new growth. This is the time when most of us opt to touch up the roots with a new box of color to blend the new growth in with the previously dyed hair.

  • A: Hi there CMC. Not all hair dyes are made for covering gray. The Nutrisse Ultra Colors are specifically for use on natural dark hair and won’t cover gray. Select a color from the Nutrisse Crème Colors. Since dyed hair is much harder to lighten than natural hair. No hair dye is strong enough to lighten artificial pigment. To go lighter first you would have to have a salon professional strip out the dark dye first with a bleach lightener made for removing dark hair dye.

    terrible. i have black hair so according to the intense auburn box, it says black hair will be a dark auburn.. there is NO difference in my hair color. like at all. i shined a flashlight on my hair and it’s still the same exact color. look at the photo!! that’s right after rinsing and with the flash on. NO RED NO AUBURN NO DIFFERENCE!! I even went in the sun and there is zero color difference. what a waste of time and money. and damage to my hair for nothing… i have thick hair so i bought four boxes as i do with any other hair dye to make sure my hair is very saturated for a good color result. i used FOUR BOXES and there’s no difference in my color AT ALL? not even a tint??? i just got scammed and can’t get my money back because the product is used… never again will i give this company my business.. this was literally a scam. how can you advertise it’ll work on black hair then there’s NO DIFFERENCE? i could even justify there being a small tint only… i get it, black hair is hard to dye without stripping. but if your product can’t get the job done then maybe you shouldn’t advertise that it can…. so annoyed and out $40… wack. I WISH I READ THE REVIEWS FIRST

    Very poor lift.

    I bought this brand instead of my usual blonde lightning product. I read that it was more gentle on hair. However, any of the many hair lighteners/ bleach I have tried over the years, this one is the absolute worst. My roots had only grown out a little and they were medium brown. I followed the directions explicitly and my roots still turned out completely orange. This is even after washing it and using the antipress toner. This brand seems to be considerably weaker than any other brand I've bought even though it says it lifts up to eight levels (which is what I normally buy). Is nowhere near listening? Is five levels after the allotted time. I will have to wait several days and then purchase another brand. Continue the lightning process and not damage my hair any further. I do not recommend this product at all. Complete waste of money

    for those of you saying it turns your hair black, please look up color theory! the darkest black is blue black! i do use this color for black hair but it still has hints of blue in the sun! absolutely love this product and garnier’s box dye in general! it’s much safer than other brands, my hair stays extremely soft, and it smells soooo goodddd!!!!!

    I love it! This color over my natural dark hair color ends up like very deep burgundy instead of a violet dye. It looks almost natural. The product does not damaged may hair at all. Using the right shampoo and conditioner my hair keeps the color for about 9 weeks. Even the faded color look good. For me this is an awesome product which deserved to be recommended.

    Amazing dye with an important catch

    I first bought this dye in October to cover some stubborn blue tones, and on very light blonde hair, it came out beautifully I really love the color. That said, the box is a bit misleading. When my natural dirty blonde roots grew in, the dye didn’t show up nearly as vibrant on the slightly darker sections, creating a noticeable difference. After bleaching my roots and reapplying, the color turned out much more even and true to expectation. Overall, this is a great dye, but you’ll only get the purple shade shown if your hair is light blonde. Darker hair won’t take the color the same way without bleaching first.

    Horrible, can't used. Plugs up the tip.

    Had to cut bottom on developing creme, very thick and clumps. Mixed everything including oil. Shook well over and over, would not come out of the bottle, cut the top to make it bigger. Some came out only to get stuck with climbs. Never had this problem before Code is 7010344716

    Not the right color

    I bought the “dark intense violet” but it actually came out a very bright red instead. And no, there were no other chemicals in my hair it could have been reacting with. I’m not sure if it was just mislabeled or what, but your dye could be for a very different color than you think!

    Horrible.

    This is genuinely the worst purple hair dye I have ever used. My hair somehow turned lighter and patchier than how I started and it’s turned my hair pink and orange??? Would NOT recommend. And smells so strong when you put it on like ammonia and when you wash out is so strong like dye.

    It’s not a terrible color, but it’s not the color on the box. I should’ve known when the die looked pink and not purple!! Im not mad, but I was going for the color on the box, not a wine red color.

    It’s not violet.

    Did the try on this shade and loved what it said my hair would look like. It doesn’t look anything like that. My hair is red and I’m devastated. I’m going back to my other brand. I don’t trust Garnier after this and now seeing that the previous reviews also had people turn red instead of violet.

    terrible

    I should have read reviews- barely notice any color and on top of it my neck is all red itchy and irritated. I should have known when I started pouring it out. it looked like conditioner not hair dye. wont buy again
