many defective products- only get the well assembled ones
I was able to install this on a very tall windowframe by myself (with some extra muscle). It looks great, tho I would not recommend to the elderly as you have to put your back into the installation process. ONE thing to watch out for: there seems to be a defect in many of these products. As you can see in the picture, the pads are supposed to wrap all the way around the L shape to hold this in its frame. I recieved one perfect one, and one which several other users described where the pads are only on one side of the L shape, and fall off easily. Something clearly went wrong in production- they were even taped on with yellow tape on the deffective one! I went to the store and saw 3 more defective ones hanging up on the shelves. make sure you get one with pads wrapping all the way around! Very bummed as now I only have one curtain rod and it looks silly, but ordering another in the hopes of getting lucky with a non-defective one again...

Didn't maintain any tension. No inner spring. Knob super loose after turning in the direction it says to tighten. Can turn this one forever without it tightening. No springs. Includes screws but it is supposed to be a tension rod.

Not the most intelligent design...
I have little faith these will stay up, they don't feel secure and I don't think they will last the opening and closing. It reqires two people to install correctly. It's quite a pain to set up, to achieve adequate tension I had to twist it so tight that the rod is bowing out. If your window frame isn't 100% perfectly even (nearly all apartments and dorms) this whole process is even more exhausting. Also, if it is going into a dry wall window frame, you do end up piercing two tiny metal pins into the wall. Nothing like drilling in traditional curtain rods but especially if you can't get it up in one go it does do some minor damage. Finally, the instructions on the rods themselves are annoying as you end up having to peel the stickers off after installing and while doing this likely will end up dislodging your curtains and have to start all over.

New style is trash
I'm assuming all the good reviews for this are for the old style. I purchased one of these a few years ago and it's been fantastic. It's a bit complicated to install but it hasn't fallen down once and it's a great option as a renter. I decided to pick up another one recently because I liked the first so much, and man the difference between the two is drastic. The construction on the new one is very flimsy, definitely not as heavy duty as the old one. (the new one won't even tighten as it's supposed to) I wish I had measured the new one before I promptly returned it because the diameter of the rod had to have been 1/4 inch smaller on the new one. Bottom line, if you can find one of the old style ones, buy it! But if it's a new one from target today, put it back on the rack and walk away

Works well if you actually follow instruction video
This is a great curtain rod *IF* you install it correctly and have realistic expectations. I have mine extended to about 60” with no middle support and 2 blackout curtain panels (total weight ~12 lbs) and it’s sturdy. Follow the instruction video- the first time I tried to put it up I didn’t realize you have to also screw the right finial after you do the rod and it fell. It took me a couple tries to get it up properly by myself, but it’s doable. You simply can’t expect this to be equivalent to wall mounted brackets, but if you just need something to hold your curtains up without putting holes in the wall, this will do the job nicely!

Disappointing
Was super excited about this, but it would not work. The right side would not get tight enough to the wall (directions are to push the left side while rotating rod on right to lock). The right side was sliding down and would not be flush against the wall. Either the wall is not level or the rod isn’t doing what it should. The $5 tension rod worked better. I am hoping to return, but box is destroyed.

The design looks ok, but the functionality is poor. It tells you to twist in one way to loosen it (has a sticker with arrows) and they must have put the sticker on there the wrong way. Also, I don't trust anything that expects me to scan a QR code to watch a video, and I was right. The video was sloppy. As for the lenght, you can extend it a whopping 2 inches but then it won't budge. I would NOT recommend this, don't waste your money.

Nice Concept, But Nice Try
Everything about it terrible. The concept, the plastic, the design. Would not recommend in any capacity regardless of the window treatment. Even with two people it probably still would not install. The left finial is not tight, so it will continuously fall off while trying to install. The overall material is a very cheap plastic. This should have been a concept piece left on the floor and I can’t wait to return it. Target needs to discontinue this. It’s a tad pricey for their “budget” friendly room essentials. It’s not even worth 5 cents.

Don't Waste your Time
This item just doesn't work. I should have known because it sounded so easy. I followed the video, I followed the written instruction. Waste of money, and I ended up having to screw it in anyway to make it work. Pretty upset about it, honestly.

Doesn’t work. I followed the instructions but just couldn’t hold a pair of curtains. Returning the bar in the morning. The metal is very thin and I expect it will bend easily.

Cheaply Made
Good idea but cheaply made. Might have worked on my window if pieces hadn’t started breaking off during install. It became unusable and I became disappointed.
