Q: can you use this on vinyl or leather seats and how would you mix it

A: Since we have not tested our Murphy Oil Soap Liquid Wood Cleaner for use on leather, we would not recommend you use it to clean any type of leather. For usage on vinyl, we recommend diluting 1/4 cup of liquid Murphy's per gallon of warm water.

A: Thanks for asking! The Murphy Oil Soap Wood Cleaner can be used on colorfast washable fabrics. Wet stain and apply MOS liquid full strength to laundering as usual. This treatment should be applied quickly after the stain occurs, in most cases stains are too well set for any remedy to work. Use two full capfuls of MOS per gallon of cold water and follow washing instructions on fabric.

A: Hey we're sorry you're having trouble finding the directions on the label. We recommend diluting 1/4 cup of liquid Murphy's per gallon of warm water, and for heavy cleaning, Use 1/2 cup per gallon of warm water. We hope this helps!

A: Hey there! we recommend using our Murphy's soap as directed on the bottle. This formula has not been tested to be used in a spray bottle to be used later. For a spray option check out our Murphy Cleaning Spray. 🙂

Q: Does it leave wood floors slick or slippery when dry?

A: For Murphy's oil, we recommend applying the product with the help of a cloth and letting the surface air-dry for the best dry surface. It should not be sticky or slippery afterwards. However, liquid Murphy Oil Soap must be diluted in water unless cleaning leather or pre-treating fabric. On most surfaces, application directly from the bottle may result in a sticky surface.

I’ve tried plenty of cleaners over the years, but I always come back to Murphy’s. It cleans wood surfaces gently but thoroughly, without leaving residue or that fake shine. Just a clean, natural finish that makes everything feel refreshed. The scent is light and nostalgic — clean without being overwhelming. It lifts dirt without harming the wood, and I trust it on everything from baseboards to antique furniture. It’s not flashy or trendy, but it works better than most newer products. Murphy’s is one of those quiet staples I always keep on hand because it never lets me down.

I've been using Murphy's oil soap for 25 years. I used the paste. The liquid was not as effective for my purposes. The last bottle I bought was definitely not the same product I'd used for years. Instead of conditioning the wood and leather, it dried them out. Why would you change a product that had such a good following and great recommendations? I won't be buying it anymore and will tell my clients to stop purchasing it. WHY DID YOU CHANGE THE FORMULATION?

Used to leave my wood glowing;.now it's just a drab mess. I had to use the 2 other cleaners to get the drab slime film off of my table that was left by your product. You were very dishonest in pretending and marketing that this was the same product. It is nothing like the old product and you have displayed a very disappointing lack of honesty and integrity.

I’m so disappointed. Murphys Oil Soap has been my go to cleaner for over 30 years. I ran out and went to the store to get a new bottle and was a little confused when I saw that the labeling had changed. But that’s not the only thing that has changed. It does not work as well and does not smell as good as the original product. In this world, there is so very little that you can depend on, but I always thought that Murphys would be a constant. I guess I’ll have to find something else now.

This is not the original Murphy's Oil Soap, and the scent is not pleasant at all!! The original was so great for floors, cabinets furniture and car interiors, and the scent it left behind was wonderful.

When you read all the positive reviews, it appears most of the reviews are for the formula before the new formula, which was a great product. The new formula is not so great. They changed the smell. It doesn’t bring back nostalgic memories. How can it? The new smell has only been around for a few years. I miss the old formula without the citronella. I loved cleaning with the old formula that stated 98% natural. The company can keep their 99% natural with citronella.

I started checking into it and it looks like the ingredients are different even though the bottle says same formula. ? I used to use Murphy’s for everything. I will not be buying it anymore! I will be looking for a different cleaning product if anyone has any ideas. So so disappointed that the company decided to change a loved and trusted product that had been around for years. It is definitely not the original formula as the bottle states. Bring back the old formula exactly as it was before!!!!

I have been a loyal user of Murphy’s Oil Soap for years because it was a reliable, trusted product that safely cleaned and conditioned my wood surfaces. However, I recently purchased a new bottle and was extremely disappointed to discover that the formula has clearly changed — and not for the better. The new version is lighter in color, thinner in consistency, and noticeably different in performance. It no longer provides the same rich, nourishing clean that the original vegetable oil soap formula did. The label still claims “original formula,” but the ingredient list tells a different story. Adding plant-based detergents and synthetic ingredients may check marketing boxes, but it has fundamentally altered a product that people trusted for generations. I feel misled as a customer. There was no clear notification that the formula had changed, and longtime users like myself are left with an inferior product that does not live up to Murphy’s original reputation. Please reconsider this reformulation — or at least be honest with customers about the changes you’ve made.
