Reliable Corporation Velocity 270IR Auto Control Steam Iron: 1800W, Anodized Aluminum Soleplate, Digital Display, 300ml Tank

I last bought this iron in January 2024 for the second time and now March 2026 it just stopped working. Ugh Right in the middle of a sewing project. I am going to order a new one because I do like the way it presses my fabric for my quilting projects. I just wish it lasted longer than 2 years.

The Reliable iron is definitely high quality. It is heavy, which is what I wanted. I typically don’t use steam, choosing to spray with water instead, so I find it’s a process to get it into disable mode each time. Then there is this loud gurgling sound when I start using it. The instructions did warn about the sound and it does stop. It just makes me nervous. Otherwise, it works beautifully! I like that it does not turn off automatically after a few minutes.

Love my new (to me) iron. Lots of steam, nice weight and looking forward to years of pressing!

This is my third Velocity. This is the best iron made. I've had all the other brands and this tops them all. As a quilter I really appreciate that I can bypass the auto shut off when I'm working for hours on a quilt. No sputters or leaking. Nice long cord and I like the weight.

Irons very well and good quality however temperature dial is very fussy and enough that had I know I would not have purchased the product.

This is such an improvement over a standard iron - this is what I have been missing for so many years. After I finally grew sick of the inevitable spitting from a standard iron I finally made the decision to spend the extra money for this model. And I don’t regret it at all. Constant, even steam, no spitting, and a perfect surface for all fabrics. I’ve only had it a short time, but so far - spectacular! The only thing that I didn’t see anyone mention was the sound that it makes pumping the water while in use for steam mode. There is a very audible sound of that pump running - which is fine, I just hadn’t seen or heard anyone mention that in a review anywhere (and I was searching many of them!).

The best iron. Great weight, heat and steam. I just wish they lasted longer. I use mine almost daily as I’m a prolific quilter. They average about a year for me.

This is the best iron I have used. It cuts my ironing time in half.No drips. No spraying. Just continuous hot steam until you release your hand. Does require distilled water. The digital display is only numbers so you need to know which number to select. That would be by only complaint and it is not enough to lower a star because it works so good! Worth the money!

I really like this iron and the fact that it steams instantly when grabbing the handle to iron and the fact that it doesn't spit water! It is a little heavy but it irons beautifully.

This iron is very heavy and makes kind of a lot of noise but it works really well and smoothly glides through the ironing quickly.

This is my second Velocity iron. My first one started "spitting" some water after 5+ years of heavy use (nearly every day!). I highly recommend this iron. It is perfect for quilters who like pressing with steam.

I purchased this iron about few months ago and have used it several times a week since purchasing. Overall this is a lovely iron, and it was certainly a set up from my cheap Sunbeam I had been using for 15 years. I’ve been using the iron for ironing my clothing, garment construction sewing, steaming, and quilt piecing. Pros Very fast to heat up Auto off feature (which can be disabled) helpful shape of the soleplate (metal bottom) - the tip is flat on both sides for white a while before curving along the side of the iron (photo). I’ve found this to be extremely helpful in pressing close to edges or buttons and the like. Does not leak - hones to goodness they figured this out. Count me impressed. Heavy - this can work in your favor for good pressing as the weight of the iron does the work for you. Can individually Control temp and steam Cons Price - look, theres no way around it, this is a high price point. Heavy - if you’re elderly, have a physical impairment, poor ergonomic set up, or work for long periods, this becomes noticeable Settings on bottom- List of settings is on the bottom which is annoying when using and want to reference temp numbers to fabric types quickly. Steam sensor- I know the steam sensor in the handle is supposed to be a big feature, and it’s cool, but I find it cumbersome. With an iron so heavy it’s hard to negotiate if you’re trying to closely monitor the steam setting. Water fill access is difficult to open - although this might just be mine, and it may loosen up over time. Overall I’m rating this 5 stars. There are no issues with the function of this iron. Honestly, it works beautifully. And the cons are either minor ( location of heat settings), personal preference, or unavoidable to deliver the quality ( price and weight), rather than true issues. Now hopefully it lives up to its name and lasts many years to come. Happy sewing.

I love this iron so much. I have a YouTube channel and recently featured this iron during my series of "The Heat is On" in the sewing room series. I own several irons but this is the one I reach for the most. I highly recommend this iron. The best iron I own!!!

I like the steaming capabilities of this iron. Seems like a quality product so far.

This iron has great weight and works really well It heats up very quickly and has a continuous steam option. I replaced my attached tank model with this and I am not disappointed

I just finished ordering my 3rd Velocity Auto Control 270IR. They are fantastic irons. I've purchased Rowenta, Oliso, and other fancy irons in the past, looking for a performer like this. My other 2 irons have not worn out. The first one is in my travel sewing kit, and is used by everyone at guild group sewing sessions. When the new iron arrives, I'll pass the second one on to my bestie, who is blown away by how great this iron is. Why not give her the new one you ask? I am selfish like that. My favourite feature is the had activated steam feature. It saves a lot of refilling of the tank.

This iron was recommended to me by a local shop as the one that they use. I love how fast the iron heats up and the easy steam feature. It's a perfect weight and shape for pressing my quilt fabrics and also for pressing clothing. I previously had a less expensive iron, that was a bit smaller, that I also loved. I think my 270IR is perfect for my needs.

We are loving our new Velocity iron! It’s sturdy and holds more water in the chamber than any others I have used.

Overall a great iron- the settings dial is a bit awkward.
