Quaker Oatmeal Squares have undergone significant changes that have left many guests disappointed. While some appreciate the new recipe for its lighter texture and less sweetness, the majority miss the original flavor and crunch. The new squares are smaller, denser, and have a different taste that many describe as bland or cardboard-like. Despite the mixed feelings, the cereal remains a nostalgic favorite for some, making it a versatile option for snacking or breakfast.

Definitely not the same cereal
My husband and I used to love this cereal ages ago before we met. We bought it again for that nostalgic feel and it's completely different and tastes really terrible now. Dry, bland and chemical tasting. Won't get it again

Used to be good
These used to taste really good. But they lack flavor now. Taste very bland. And the squares I think have shrunken?

Not the same.
They actually taste salty now. What did you do?! One of my favourite cereals, ruined.

False advertising...NOT even SQUARE shaped!
I’m really disappointed with the recent changes to Quaker Oatmeal Squares. For starters, they’re no longer even square—which might seem minor, but it actually took away a fun little teaching moment for kids who used to compare them with round cereals like Cheerios. Beyond the shape, the texture has noticeably changed. They used to be light and airy, but now they feel much denser. While they’re still crunchy, the flavor just isn’t what it used to be—it tastes flat and less enjoyable overall. Unfortunately, this was once a staple on our kitchen table, but with these changes, it’s something we’ll be removing from our regular rotation.

Sad day
The new smaller size is nice. The taste however, isn't it. It's not good. Tastes nothing like it used to. The new taste is closer to eating a bowl of cheerios. It's a sad day.

Terrible new recipe
The new recipe is terrible. These taste like cardboard and are half the size of the old ones so they don’t stay crunchy with milk. They’re also not even square shaped anymore and no longer look like the photo on the box.

Oatmeal Rectangles
As others have pointed out. Not the same cereal, despite keeping the product photos the same, which I think falls outside the FTC rules that the product has to the be same as what is shown. Food styling/scale aside, they are clearly not the same shape. They are now notably smaller and rectangularly shaped. They do not taste the same, but not sure how much of that is related to the smaller size and subpar texture. The chew is chalky/powdery and unsatisfying, tasting "cheaper" like a children's novelty cereal. Formerly loved this cereal.

I would probably not buy this
I just came across this product while looking through the grocery flyers. I couldn't eat cereal for years due to milk issues but now I can and I'm trying different ones. I read through the reviews and it's sad that this company has changed the way these are made and because of that I won't be wasting my money to try them. I'll never understand why big companies change the formula of how their products are made just to save money.

Bring back the old recipe!
Used to be one of my favorite cereals, was shocked to see they reformulated to something so much worse. I won’t be purchasing again, the new version sucks. No flavor, soggy texture. Using the old pic is crazy, they look totally different

Haven’t had these in a while and am extremely disappointed with the new recipe. Smaller, less crunchy, and completely different taste. Will not buy again. This used to be my favorite cereal!

Why?
Thanks for screwing up oat squares! I don't know what could possibly be the reason for this other than saving money in production. It's always about the money, right?

Buggy
This was a favorite cereal. When I opened a box recently shipped to me, I had one bowl before pouring another and finding a little black bug in it. This happened once before about two years ago, but I assumed it was an anomaly. Now, with the price of the cereal rising from $2.99 to $4.97 about 6 months ago, I hesitated but thought I'd buy it anyway—and now I won't order it again. There's an ongoing manufacturing quality issue since these couldn't be the same batches over two years. If I could give zero stars I would; it's not healthy.

Still crunchy, mildly sweet and a full serving of iron
One cup of this cereal provides enough iron for women and girls for a full day. Easy way to get your iron, ladies. Add some berries for some vitamin C and you’re good to go. Don’t mind these weird reviews- something is going on with negative Target reviews. This cereal is as crunchy and mildly sweet as it was in the 2000’s.

Changed the recipe, lost the flavor.
This was legitimately the only cereal I would eat before. It had great flavor, kept me full for more than 30 mins, and had a great crunch. They changed the recipe and it’s terrible. They are airy/puffy now and are lack flavor, and very disappointing. Please change back to the previous recipe, because once the boxes I have now are gone, I will be done with this cereal.

Disappointment. What happened to their cereal
I really wanted to have Quaker oatmeal squares and haven't had some for a year or so. But remembered loving them as a kid. I bought a box and there were horrible. Small, hard, shaped wrong and tasted like cardboard. I was so disappointed.
