Q: If we're adding it to the fabric softener dispenser, are we mixing it with the softener or using it in place of the fabric softener? That isn't clear since it says it's not a fabric softener. Thanks!

A: It’s a replacement. It rinses residues from your fabrics. IMO it does make your clothes softer.

A: It’s my first time I am buying this product, if it says it’s safe, it should be! Also, when you read product details you could assume that it works as fabric softener.

Q: Can I use this product with lysols laundry sanitizer?

A: Probably a bad idea. Lysol laundry sanitizer’s active ingredients are quaternary ammonium compounds, which would likely be rendered ineffective by the lower pH created by the citric acid in this product. Basically they cancel each out. FYI, the quat disinfectants in Lysol’s product aren’t super great for the environment and at high concentrations, they may pose some health risks (mostly skin and lung irritation, but in mice, high doses are associated with other health issues. But people aren’t mice, and the dose makes the poison, so it’s probably fine when used at directed), but still, if this citric acid rinse gets you the same results, it’s probably a better option.

A: Downy Rinse and Refresh is a rinse-added product, so it goes in the fabric softener dispenser on most washing machines. It can also be added in the center post agitator for traditional top-loading machines, or it can be added directly to the drum during the rinse cycle.

I have several tees that have "perma-stink" from sweat, and nothing has worked to remove it. So, I decided to try this product, despite the high price. Of course, it doesn't work, either. It doesn't remove the odor; only masks it with a perfume that is so strong it makes my eyes water. Now my shirts smell like perfume AND perma-stink. Very disappointed.

I was given a bottle that leaked all over and is a quarter of the way empty. The lid is a mess and has the product dried all over it and the bottle. I wish picking up though target pick up they’d give me quality products

I love the smell of this but I only got 3/4 of the bottle as it was leaking all over the plastic bag that it was packaged in. Advice. Don’t order this online Tried to do a claim. Will not let me.

This product works. The bottle has a screw top lid and liquid is very sticky if it gets on you which makes the bottle gross. Sure would nice if the large size had a flip top lid.

I was not impressed with this product, for one, it’s not a very big bottle, two, it didn’t add a clean fresh scent and I feel the Lysol Laundry Sanitizer works much better.

Here’s the thing: I like the product, it works well. And maybe this is me, but the bottle is literally the worst container I have ever had the misfortune of attempting to use. It’s unwieldy, slippery, I’ve managed to drop it multiple times, and it splashes out of the fabric softener dispenser in my washer and ends up all over the floor. Downey, please help this (perhaps uncoordinated?) woman get a better grip on your product by changing your packaging. Please. I beg you.

I love using downy for that fresh and soft feeling so I decided to try this but I wasn’t impressed. I actually don’t like the smell and the clothes and towels aren’t as soft as when using downy. Maybe this is better for a laborers clothing where smells get caked in but I can’t see how it would even freshen them up. Waste of money.

The design of this bottle is terrible. It's awkwardly shaped and you pour it straight into the dispenser from the bottle. This is extremely difficult for people whose hands are not as strong. Caused it to slip out of my hand and spill half the bottle all over the floor.

Good Marketing Bad Product

This product was not a good fit for me. I think I may have just succumbed to good marketing. First, it's not concentrated, the consistency is like water. Not concentrated=you go through it really quickly. Secondly I was hoping for it to have more fragrance. I'm one of those people who uses fabric softener especially for the scent so replacing the fabric softener with this would not be something I prefer. I even used a 2x extra hoping it would have a better scent. As for the intended use (odor neutralizing) I also wasn't satisfied. The towels I threw in the wash with the 2x extra product did not smell fresh to me. So all in all I cant recommend this.

Horrible Allergic Reaction! I used this stuff in the past and stopped because it was leaving white marks on my black pants. Stupidly washed some pjs with a sample bottle my mom gave me and I got itchy but blamed it on skincare products. The next night i didn’t use any of the skincare and it happened again! This was from the second load I did and it is so much worse.Everywhere the clothing was touching me it was red and in the places with elastic or tight areas it was itching like crazy! There is visible raised patches all over. Oh and by the way there is no leftover smell on my clothes whatsoever. I always use an extra rinse cycle as well.

Ruined my most expensive blanket

This product is NOT compatible with my washer. $100 blanket ruined by hard unwashed Downy rinse being dispensed in the rinse cycle (as per directions) and dried without noticing. The product is just being dumped on top of the load and never rinsed. Blanket is literally hard and has some kind of hard tar or grease streaked across. My washer is cleaned very thoroughly often and has never had this happen. Beware with this product if you are letting your machine decide when to dispense.

I love using this for towels, bath mats, workout clothes, my sons and partners extra sweat clothes and socks, etc. it’s great as a refresher for fabrics that don’t do well with softener. Smells MUCH better than the softener Cool Cotton scent. Smells like the old Tide Simply Cool Cotton (iykyk!) but never gets the sour smell like the Simply did after a week. Smells so fresh and lasts even longer when paired with the Cool Cotton dryer sheets. I always have this product stocked at home.
