Great suction

Great
Purchased a few weeks ago, great machine. Its just a little heavier than our previous Dyson otherwise it's great. The suction on this is far superior to Dyson Animal model we had last time.

Dyson complete
Recently bought my Dyson complete, but had trouble following the directions to put the stand together, therefore I did it out of order and unable to fix it correctly. Very frustrating.

Would recommend.
Loving this vacuum. With a dog that sheds tons, the laser was quite the eye opener. We have light tile and I had no idea how dirty the floors were. It’s much easier to pull this out and do a quick pass on the daily.

Great mover!
I bought the Gen5detect vacuum recntly and have found it an excellent machine. It is able to get to the edges in a way my upright cleaner could not and the handle manouverability is great, folding almost to the floor to get under furniture. I was also able to clean a 3 bedroom flat without losing any power. Very pleased with this purchase.

Average vacuum, doesn’t justify the cost
It’s very quiet and easy to handle. It lights the area very well and it’s long enough to accommodate my height. The battery life is average to short. The suction is average to poor on a hardwood floor, particularly when trying to pick up small items like sand or cat litter. It requires the deeper suction selection, which depletes the battery more quickly. It does not pick up short cat hair well.

Haven't used the unit enough to give it five stars. Suction is terrific - picks up everything. Tank empties with ease. So far the unit has met all my expectations. Finally a battery that can be swapped out easily (if you want to have two batteries). One battery is enough for me -- so far.

Excellent Vacuum, Highly Recommended
I have had a Dyson V8 for many many years and still works great. I wanted a Gen5 and finally got one. It is worth it. I use it on both rugs and bare floors and am alway amazed at the amount it picks up even when the area looks clean. The vacuum is well balanced so it takes not effort to push it, even on my deep pile carpet. I have vacuumed most the house and never run out of battery power. Since I have allergies I am very glad for the HEPA filtration. I would recommend to anyone.

Don’t buy it
Bought this unit to replace our Dyson of five years — a machine that worked reliably and never gave us any real issues — and I’m honestly shocked at the drop in quality and support. This model is marketed as top of the line, yet it doesn’t function properly on carpet. When I contacted Dyson’s troubleshooting team, the solution offered was that I should replace my carpet not the unit. That response was incredibly disappointing, especially given the price point. After spending this much on a premium product, I expected performance and accountability. Instead, I’m seeing widespread reports online of the exact same issue, with no meaningful resolution from Dyson. For a brand positioned as best-in-class, this experience has been extremely frustrating.

Great maneuverable cordless vacuum!
The Gen5 Detect works very well. It appears to pick up a lot of dust and fibers that were not being grabbed by our old upright Hoover. It has enough suction on carpets that my wife uses Eco mode to make it easier to push. The vacuum adjust slider on the front of the carpet tool is useful for adjusting to different carpet piles. The Eco mode also has the benefit of significantly extending the battery run time. The carpet tool is extremely maneuverable and the vacuum seems to be significantly quieter than our old upright. I did buy a 3rd party upright stand which holds the tools and mates with the Dyson docking station perfectly allowing a single compact storing/charging footprint. One disappointment - spare batteries do not appear to be readily available although use of the Eco mode negates the need to have a standby battery. We have not used the vacuum on our tile floors yet.

Very happy with the new vacuum cleaner
I am very happy with my new Gen5detect Dyson vacuum cleaner. The battery lasts as described, the noise is low, the suction is really powerful, it cuts the hair leaving the head clean, and emptying is easy without a need to touch anything.

Great for spot cleaning but no for the whole house
I bought this just over a month ago to replace a 23 years old Dyson DC08 vacuum which I have loved & promoted to people at every opportunity. Sadly, the DC08 had seen better days & parts are no longer available so after much procrastination I excitedly purchased the Gen5detect. I vacuum my house top to bottom religiously once a week - a combo of tiled & carpeted areas with the odd rug. While it's great having the freedom of no cord to move around, it's much quieter and the suction is great, I don't recommend this vacuum cleaner for use on the whole house. It's great for spot cleaning though I expect a cheaper model would suffice for this purpose. Why don't I like it - 1. It's heavy to use for a whole house clean. I'm a fit person but I feel like I need a shoulder reconstruction after vacuuming my house with this thing. I certainly wouldn't recommend it to an older &/or unfit person. This vacuum is great for a spot clean but I suspect a cheaper model would do the job if this is all you are using it for. 2. The battery doesn't last to vacuum my entire house in 1 go. I live in a 3 bed duplex I.e. it isn't a big house. The battery takes a few hours to recharge so you really need 2 batteries if you just want to get the job done. 3. The hard floor tool is a bit of a gimmick as the light on it is deceptive e.g. it makes you think that a small paint spot on your floor is dirt when on closer inspection it isn't. I'd like to just trust that the vacuum cleaner is doing a good job without the paranoia created by this light. Also, as with all the tools, it's made of hard plastic & there is no buffer when vacuuming hard against your skirtings so likely to remove paint from them over time. This tool also doesn't swivel 360 degrees evenly so it doesn't allow you to reach the full depth under any raised furniture meaning dust will collect at the back of furniture that is positioned against against walls 3. The bristles on the brush tool are too flimsy so you are effectively running plastic along your skirting or walls when using it 4. I like to vacuum dust off all surfaces in my house so am used to vacuuming my TV unit, buffet & cushions or to suction up the odd cobweb on the ceiling. It's too heavy & awkward to manoeuvre for this. 5. In the course of vacuuming my house the bin needs to be emptied at least 3 times so the time saved by not having to plug & unplug a corded vacuum is lost by having to empty it frequently instead. 6. Changing the attachments all the times for the different surfaces seems cumbersome. I think this is partly because there is no height adjustment option for the stick & some of the attachments only work on the stick not when you remove it. 6. The carpet tool stops working every time you run off the edge of a rug or butt it against something like a chair leg or skirting board so you have to stop & restart the vacuum to get it to work again. As a big Dyson fan, I wanted to love this vacuum but sadly it isn't fit for my purpose so I'll be taking up the 45 day return guarantee. Sorry Dyson :(
