Q: Does this Dyson model vacuum shag carpeting? I tried the V15 model and it did not. It was amazing on hard surface flooring but when I tried it on carpeting with a thick pile, it did not work.

Disappointed
I bought the Dyson gen5 a few weeks ago and I was disappointed at first with the colours I wasn’t provided with all copper and blue has is shown on the website. It is heavier than my V11 and the battery doesn’t seem to hold its charge. When I’ve fully charged it the next day it’s only got around 20 minutes left. It has got good suction but that causes issues of it stopping on deep pile carpets and rugs. The inbuilt tool is handy and the soft floor head with green light is good.Not very noisy Overall I should have purchased the V15 not has heavy, battery lasts longer and no issues with stopping. When I’m shown on a website what I’m purchasing I expect to get the exact same. Dyson you should do better these machines are not cheap

I love my new gen vacuum cleaner my goodness I can get the whole house done a.d still have power left for skirting boards and attachments are great for getting cornices cleaned. Easy to reach hard to get places. Also the filtration is amazing and easy to clean filter. Long lasting battery makes it easy to do everything before having to recharge Highly recommend this one.

I purchased this to replace my excellent old worn
This is very similar to my my V15 detect. Is a little bit heavier and bigger, but my wife hated having to hold down the handle to continually run the V 15 detect. This is otherwise similar, but has the advantage of just single press button to turn on, and a press button to turn off. Otherwise, it is very similar, and I would be buying a similar vacuum cleaner if we didn't already have good use of a very versatile and long-lived V15 detect. It also still works, but after some time when there is some resistance in the floor head clea.ner to vacuum the carpets or clean with bedding, it sometimes turned off by itself.

This unit seems pretty good but it is much heavier in the hand than I expected. It does not work brilliantly along skirting boards and I was also surprised to find that it seems to only pick up dust, etc. on the forward motion and not when pulling back towards yourself

Great for picking up hair.
Using my new Gen5detect for the first time was very confronting. I had no idea just how much hair and dust was on my tiled floor. Thankfully, it was a lot less scary the second time - because the first clean had done such a good job. I am actually looking forward to vacuuming now. It feels space age.

Awesome Machine
We have a white Border Collie who drops fur everywhere!! This is the 3rd vacuum cleaner we’ve tried and absolutely love it. The self cleaning head is awesome compared to what we’ve tried before. Our house is 320m2 and if we vacuum at least once a week the charge lasts the whole house. As a side note we carry around a bucket like bin around to regularly empty the vacuum into so I don’t have to carry back to my bin near the kitchen. The amount of dog fur this picks up almost scares me :)

Best vacuum ever
Pros Has a powerful motor, shows the level of particles by particle size as they enter the vacuum suction, is easy to empty, easy to swap attachments, great for carpet and hardwood floors, is quiet compared to vacuums with similar suction, the telescoping small suction tube is super well designed, and it is easy to store. I had an outlet added to a closet for the charging requirement so I don’t have to see the vacuum when it’s not in use. I highly recommend doing that. Cons It is hard on my wrist and may exacerbate carpal tunnel syndrome because of its weight and the angle of use.

I found the Dyson vacuum cleaner….GEN5 detect has great versatility for the apartment (which has a mixture of hardwood and carpeted flooring). It reduces the cleaning and vacuuming time, is easier to manipulate and much more efficient than the previous vacuum cleaner which served me for 20 years

Awesome Dyson Stick cleaner, the best.
I purchased this Dyson after comparing products on Consumer NZ and don’t regret my purchase at all. My previous Dyson was about 7 years old and still going strong and I also have standard vacuum which I used to use as my turbo “big gun” for deep cleaning. I don’t need this anymore the amount of dirt my new Dyson has picked up is amazing, great for cleaning my bed and couches, my carpets look new and visibility clean. I’m super impressed. Easy to set up on the stand with attachments and super easy to use. I love the on button, no need to hold it. Totally recommend this model.

Powerful performance, Great array of Attachments.
I have had a Dyson upright for about 10 years, it did a great job, but i Hated using the Flexible hose, it always tried to retract by itself & made the whole 'getting in the corners' a nightmare. I used to use a Dyson V6 handheld to get in there. I decided to Buy a Gen5detect, and I absolutely LOVE it. Powerful suction & the array of attachments that came with it make it a breeze to use. I particularly like the power switch, so no need to pull the trigger constantly. Battery life is awesome & the results are amazing!! I just wish the storage bucket were a bit bigger, but it's not a huge problem. Dyson really do make a Great product.

Failed carpet attachment spoilt it.
I purchased the vacuum cleaner over much resistance from my wife. Her parents had previously bought one and it was nothing but trouble. The first week I thought it was great, but unfortunately the carpet attachment failed after 7 days. Dyson has sent me a new one without any drama. I will see how it goes, but if it fails again I will return it for a full refund. I’m sure this review won’t appear on your website.

Great cordless vacuum
I bought this 2 weeks ago on sale (Black Friday 2025) and I am very happy so far. Its my first cordless vacuum that I have purchased. I bought this vacuum on the brand reputation, and also from recommendations from friends. I have no carpets in my home, only tile and floor boards. I wanted a vacuum that could maneuver & reach under beds. Best features: It is lightweight, and very comfortable for me to hold and operate as a 6ft tall person. The suction has been consistent. Quiet during operation. The battery life has been great for my large home too.
