Q: Does this Dyson model vacuum shag carpeting? I tried the V15 model and it did not. It was amazing on hard surface flooring but when I tried it on carpeting with a thick pile, it did not work.

    Worth it

    We had couple Dyson vacuum in the past and Gen5Detect is the best one yet. Definitely worth the price tag, love mine and works amazing!

    Not happy with Vac

    Totally disappointed as vac is heavy and parts are difficult to exchange on it. The battery has an unusual short life so constantly need to charge it if I want to finish cleaning my house ..,

    Time for an upgrade

    Upgraded my V6 animal after 11 years of service and wow I have certainly upgraded. Everything is better , suction, filtration, quieter, runtime and ease of emptying. Crazy to see what it’s picking up with the light on hard floors and what I was missing with old vacuum. Hopefully get another 10 years

    Good product

    I have been using it for six month. It easily lasts long enough for me to clean my home on a single charge, so I don’t have to worry about the battery running out halfway through cleaning. The consistent suction power throughout the cleaning session is also a big plus. One small issue I’ve noticed is that the extension wand can be a little difficult to remove from the motor unit. It seems to need to be held at a certain angle before it will detach smoothly. I’m not sure whether this is part of the intended design or if it’s specific to my unit, but I think it could be improved to make attachment and removal easier.

    Our first Dyson

    We purchased this 4 weeks ago and were in two minds to get a Dyson . The Gen5 was on special so we thought we would roll the dice and get one. We have been really impressed with it so far. We life in a unit and tend to get a lot of dust and vacuum most if not every day. The Dyson is fantastic. The laser light is a huge help but gets your OCD working overtime as you see every spec . Overall this thing is great.

    Jury’s out

    The jury is still out. Thank goodness you don’t have to hold the button in because it’s quite heavy. I am so disheartened by the fluffy floor head. Although I’m sure it is good to get up all those particles it is a laborious task. It’s quieter but I don’t feel the suction is any better than my V8 🤷‍♀️

    Laying down on the Job

    Dyson Gen5 vacuums needs a stand to use when charging. It’s nice they supply a wall hanger but what if that’s not convenient for the environment or location the vacuum will be used. I have a stand for my other Dyson Vacuum and it makes it so handy and easy to charge.

    Great product.

    I bought the Gen5detect vacuum cleaner recently & am very happy with its performance.The suction is strong & does a deep clean.Could not believe the amount of dust it picked up.I used it on carpet, rugs & wood floors. The big bin is easy to empty. The only negative is the weight of the cleaner. I am an older woman & find it heavy to use. However the price on sale was excellent as is the cleaner. Thank you for a great product.

    Great for hard floors, less so plush carpet.

    Great power and suction and very capable on hard floors and short pile rugs and carpet. The illumination of hard floor dirt and dust is especially great. Surprised, however, this premium product is not coping so well with plush carpet. In particular, the motorised head routinely stops working on plush carpet. In most respects I would expect this top end product to be designed for all carpet types, yet ironically our much older Dyson stick vacuum easily handles the plush carpet.
