Q: Does this Dyson model vacuum shag carpeting? I tried the V15 model and it did not. It was amazing on hard surface flooring but when I tried it on carpeting with a thick pile, it did not work.

Great battery life!
Best Dyson vacuum I’ve owned, battery lasts longer than any vacuum I’ve had! I love the green light on the dust attachment, it picks up dog hair so well, easy to empty and the filter is easy to clean. Manoeuvres quite well. Really happy with this one!

Charging dock a problem.
I have a number of Dyson products but have had trouble mounting this wall bracket dock. Once it is on you can't get it off and I cannot insert charging cord - so pretty useless. This Dyson is also a lot heavier but it does the job well.

I'm a fan.
The shortness of thebattery was originally a problem for me with the older models. The Gen5 is fabulous though. I love the light at the front on the floor, you can actually see all the dust that the naked eye does not see. I have had Dyson vacuum cleaners for 20 years now and wouldn't even try anything else. The after sales service is superb. I don't know another company that is as good.

I upgraded and purchased the Dyson Gen5detect Complete vacuum, and let me just say—this vacuum delivers! The suction power is excellent, and after using it, you can genuinely tell your floors and carpets are free of hair and dust particles. However, the noise level is noticeably louder than my previous Dyson V15 cordless model, which I found to be a drawback for an otherwise great cordless vacuum. Despite that, I’ve given it 4 stars because the overall performance is superb.

Push button start a plus, that is why I bought it
Good machine and like the push button stop start but because of my age (78) find it a little heavy and tiring to use even on Eco setting. Will mainly use my V10 purchased 2 years ago and do a weekly clean with the Gen5. Excellent suction.

Bought this recently to replace an older model whose battery was becoming unreliable. Using the new hard floor head for the first time was a shock! I had no idea how much dust there was on the timber floor. I can see where I’ve been or missed so doing a more complete job now. Plenty of very useful tools and cleans the carpet extremely well. Bought on the recommendation of Choice and very happy that I did. Heavier than previous model so perhaps best to check if it is suitable for you before buying.

Very efficient Gen5 Detect
Still getting to grips with all the attachments and possibilities for use. Battery longevity is less than I thought it would be, but that may be because it’s picking up SO much dust, fluff and dog hair, it’s amazing. I like the on/off button - the continuous holding of the trigger on my older model hurt my hand after a while. An extra benefit is that the MOTH is fascinated by it and using it often. We like the new vertical stand: easier than the older model. It moves well over our various hard floors, which include tiles, lino and hardwood. Also the green light gadget is amazing as it lights up all the dog fur, without flinging dust into the air. Happy repeat customers here.

Very happy with my purchase
I thought my floor looked clean until I used the hard floor head with the green light and couldn’t believe how much dog hair was still on the floor. We have 4 dogs which is a big job to keep the floor clean. The head to remove pet hair was fantastic on my car seats, look like new again. Very happy with my purchase of the gen5detect. Had to wait for the sales to get one as couldn’t afford otherwise.

I love my new gen 5 detect. It is very powerful and does a great job. Only things I wish were different are 1. It doesn't have a trigger on off button and 2. It is a little heavier than I expected 3. The mounting bracket will not hold all the attachments without buy a separate piece.

Dyson performance but underwhelming given cost
Decent, slightly quieter than the V10 it replaced, not necessarily worth the RRP, light feature and micron monitor are just gimmicks and not needed. Filter has changed meaning you can't add vac fresh discs anymore which us disappointing. Dock doesn't have the same fixing positions so replacing an older dock means new fixings. Dyson performance but underwhelming for the hefty price tag.

The best so far
This is my sixth Dyson vacci and it exceeds my Big Ball for versatility of use and accessories. Using the hard floor tool with it's green LED light is a revelation, the particles that are on the floor is scary! Having a readout of particles after finishing vacuuming is also amazing and a power available readout is useful. The auto power function is neat although I doubt 70 minutes run time is optimistic. The Gen5 detect is on the large side so I'll be keeping my V8s for small jobs and the car. The carpet tool needs to be set at zero otherwise it will be too hard to move on carpet but overall it is easy to maneuver around furniture legs etc. I highly recommend the Gen5 detect

My First Dyson Vacuum
I brought my Dyson Gen5detect early this month. I’ve used it twice. The first time was just to see how the suction was and it was great. It is on the heavy side and I do wish we didn’t have to go back and forth emptying the bin just to get the bin debris free. While doing that the particles are flying around. But other than that I love it. My first Dyson vacuum.
