Q: Do these bags contain any plastic?

submitted by Lah - 2 months ago
  • A: Matter bags do not contain traditional plastics. Rather, they are made from a bio-based and biodegradable thermoplastic derived from renewable plant-based resources like corn starch or sugarcane. Unlike traditional plastics derived from fossil fuels, bio-based plastics are made from renewable resources, making it a bio-based alternative.

I love anything I can do to help reduce micro plastic in our landfills. These compostable bags are great! They're thick and hold my sandwiches together perfectly. I'm not sure that they're super air tight since My caramel popcorn I put in a bag for a little soggy quicker than the bag it came in. Either way they're fantastic.

I was hesitant about these bags because I did not think they would hold up to the quality of a regular Ziploc bag, but they are very skinny. The fact that they are plant based and completely compostable is a huge plus.

I like how strong these bags are and yet they are compostable. It has good closure and good for packing snacks . It’s not a paper feel bag but has nice soft feel and is quite strong . These are easily compostable which is so great specially with the one time use ones

overall these quart sized bags are good. they other job. they seal fine and keep everything inside. because they are compostable, the bags are a little hazed looking. that’s probably the only thing i dislike about the bags, is that they are not clear view.

Surprising material. I accidently left the box outside in the rain and am surprised with the durability of the box and the bags! I received this for free for my unbiased opinion. I would recommend this to my community!

These compostable bags from Matter are really great. They are great for taking snacks on the go and great for storing. Very convenient and helpful. The bags are durable and store things tightly. I love the facts that are on the bags and I feel great using them. It's a little way of helping our environment while using something that helps us in our day to day too. I love these bags and what it represents. They get the job done and I will continue using these in our home.

Using this product is comparable to other non-compostable bags. It does have a warning that requires users to be a bit more gentle with bags for opening and closing, I noticed that trying to open the bag for the first time. The material ended up stretching but not ripping which was good! Bags are true to size and hold up after several reuses. Easy enough for small hands to open or close.

I am a fan of helping the environment but It’s hard for me to get used to change. I’m used to my traditional brand bags but these bags are soft and spreadable without the sides being hard. The box fits right in my drawer nicely. It’s cool that these bags are refrigerator and freezer safe and can be used over and over. They are strong, easy to open/close and exactly like the regular bags. They can even be easily reused when possible therefore making your purchase go a lot further. Great idea and great product to help the environment.

I've recently started using the Purple Plumeria Variety Pack, and I'm already pleased with my purchase. These durable, reusable bags come in sizes perfect for snacks, sandwiches, quarts, and gallons, making it easy to keep food fresh. They've helped me reduce plastic waste, which is a big plus. If you're looking to make a positive environmental change, these bags are a fantastic choice. Definitely worth trying out!

These are a really cool concept and I was excited to try them. They are definitely more delicate than regular storage bags, and I would be nervous to put something hot in them. But they work great for storing already cut apples and blocks of cheese. I’ve been throwing them in my composter so hopefully they break down well.

I was very unsure how these compostable zip baggies would actually work. But after using them, I am pleasantly surprised! They are big enough to hold the food and other items I need it to, but gentle enough to be compostable. You do need to be gentle when opening the bags, because they are thin.

I’ve been using the Compostable Bags, and I’m genuinely impressed. They are strong, durable, and don’t tear easily like some other compostable bags I’ve tried. Perfect size for kitchen scraps, small bins, and even for storing food in an eco-friendly way. I love that they are 100% compostable, so I feel good knowing I’m helping the environment with every use. Plus, they hold up well without leaking or falling apart before getting to the compost pile. Highly recommend for anyone trying to reduce plastic waste and live a little greener.

So far okay, they have a different texture and feel kind of fragile HOWEVER I haven't had any issues with them holding up so far. I wish that they were clear so I could tell better what was in the bag but that's not the end of the world

I absolutely love the concept of these bags. I use them for food storage and recently took them on a cruise to store liquids and wet loofahs. They all held up well with no issue. They appear to be just as strong as a normal plastic food storage bag. Definitely a great alternative.

They feel really thin and flimsy but they carry a good amount and stay sealed nicely. I don’t know that I would get them again but they’re doing what I need them to do for the time being. Honestly I keep feeling like I’m going to rip the bag open when I try to open them. They kinda remind me of those bags that that one giant online store uses to bag their products but slightly less reliable.

Full disclosure - I received these products for free from the Hey, Bullseye™ sampling program in exchange for my honest review. I have used these a few times and they are sturdy and good for storing leftovers. The closure is okay and holds together well enough. Being that they are compostable, the bags aren't clear so once you put something in there, you may have to open the bag to refresh your memory as to what you are storing. I would recommend these in place of a regular ziploc or sandwich bag due to them being a little more eco-friendly. They are perfect for using for school lunch items i.e. sandwiches, fruit, veggies.

I received the Matter Compostable quart size bags from the HeyBullseye program. The bags are easy to close, freezer friendly. I haven't added to my compost bin yet but plan to. The baggies are durable holding a good amount without tearing.

It’ll be neat to see how well these break down. I have Some in a test compost pile to see if they really do break down. They are very sturdy. I’ve used them for food and legos lol so far holding up well, even hot foods

When I need to package up leftovers, crayons or snacks, I often reach for a reusable container. Sometimes though, you need a disposable bag for a field trip or convenience. These bags could be a reasonable compromise; I thought they were easy to open and so far have held up just fine with some pizza in the freezer. However, if you're thinking these are better then plastic bags, the answer is it depends. The company says 10 million people live in an area where these can actually be composted- that's really not many. These are NOT backyard compostable - it you aren't in an area with industrial composting, these are just fancy garbage. I know my city can take compostable plastic bags but you'll have to check your local area. Although my pizza has been in the freezer for a week or so, you'll need to use up the box in about 6 months... I'm guessing they'll start to break down. They are also not completely transparent which isn't a big deal.
