Q: You mentioned that it removes microplastics but the pitcher itself is made of plastic so how is that possible?

submitted by Gilda - 2 years ago
  • A: Hi Gilda, Thank you for the email. We share your concerns about microplastics in our water, and take their presence and removal seriously. Microplastics are defined as plastic particulate 1 μm and 1000 μm in size. They can be intentionally made for specific uses, like microbeads in cosmetics, or from when larger plastic items break down due to weathering, material breakage, or mechanical forces. Additionally, microplastics can originate from synthetic fibers shedding off textiles during washing and use. The pitchers and housing are made of durable plastic materials that do not break down with normal use or time, and do not contribute to microplastic particulate in your water. All materials are also BPA-free and approved and verified for water contact. We also try to ensure we are responsible at manufacturing stages to limit waste when and where possible. Our LifeStraw membrane microfilters are made of Polysulfone, a high-performance thermoplastic that's tough and safe. It maintains its strength even in high temperatures, ensuring safe and reliable filtration. Thus, our product itself won't introduce microplastics into your water through regular usage at the normal temperature condition. The LifeStraw membrane microfilter is specifically designed to remove microplastic particles from drinking water. Through rigorous testing, we've confirmed that our filters block an impressive 99.999% of 1µm microplastic particulates in water. The high rate of reduction efficacy shows that our LS Home product do not add microplastics to the filtered water, and confirms our product itself won't introduce microplastics into your water through regular usage. We have recently posted a blog on this subject at our site. I recommend reviewing it for more information about the emerging science and how our products fit into the conversation: https://lifestraw.com/blogs/news/filtering-microplastics-and-nanoplastics-from-drinking-water Thank you for reaching out and please let us know if we can be of further assistance. We're happy to help.

submitted by LJ - 2 years ago

This is a great little water filter. I empty it into a larger glass bottle to keep fresh water. The water taste great. Easy to use. Best I have found.

    Amazing

This product is everything I always wanted in a water filter pitcher. The glass is sleek and the design is well thought out. When you fill it up, you can still pour from it without all of the water coming out, it is pretty remarkable! My only regret is not purchasing sooner!

    Love my Life Straw Pitcher

I live in a community with poor water quality, but I don't have the room or the funds for a water dispenser. So I thought I would try the Lifestraw pitcher first. I love it. I love the design and the easy refill top, but most importantly I can taste the difference in the water. I

    Life Straw pitcher

2 weeks ago there was a break in the water main near our house. We were told by the water company that everyone in our neighborhood would have to boil all their water for 3 days. Thankfully we had recently bought a Life Straw glass pitcher. It gave me peace of mind that our water was safe.

I love my pitcher! Easy to use and the water is WAY better than what I was getting from my Brita. Worth the price for really clean water.

    Love this pitcher

Was a bit hesitant about the glass, but that's what I wanted of course to get away from the microplastics. I thought it would be fragile. But wow this pitcher is thick and weighty. The shape does that. I'm glad I bought this pitcher.

    Happy with it

I'm completely satisfied with it. The water tastes so good and it's wonderful to eliminate the micro plastics by having a glass bottle.

    Love!

I absolutely love this glass pitcher. We live in a city with a lot of chemicals in the tap water, so we use this to have clean drinking water. We also use it to fill our cat water fountain! The glass is durable and beautiful.

    glass pitcher

It is slow to filter, handle does not feel as though it is placed properly, water tastes ok- the same as my other name brand filter but not as good as my RO (tastes great but also slow). I like that it is glass instead of plastic and how when you are filling it the lid opens when water hits it. However, you can only filter a small amount of water at a time.

Highly recommend for glass pitcher + taste

Overall: Impressed with the glass pitcher’s quality and fast filtering—pros outweigh cons. Pros: • Glass (fewer microplastics) • Quick filtering • Great taste • Elegant design Cons: • Pricier than plastic Brita • Small filter chamber (~less than 2 cups) The small chamber means multiple refills for a full pitcher, but fast filtering makes it easy. Perfect size for our two-person household—we drink a lot and love it.

    Game changer

My tap water was almost undrinkable even with a Brita. Bought the glass 7-cup pitcher after doing some research and it has made a world of difference. Small capacity and tall frame are a few limiting factors for bigger families or small fridges, but I will not be going back to anything else!

    Awesome!

I had a Brita filter for years and I never felt that it truly filtered my water. This has been a game changer. My water tastes fresh and we use an ice maker and coffee machine at home and using my filtered water definitely makes it taste better!

    Best drinking water ever

We purchased the 10 cup water jug from Lifestraw after our refrigerator water filtration system stopped working. The taste of the Lifestraw water is amazing! The jug is easy to refill and I love the fact that the filter will last a whole year.
