As an experienced pie baker, I bought this new beater to ease the work on my arthritic hands, thinking it would be an improvement on the regular paddle attahment. What a disappointment! This thing does not "incorporate" the fat into the flour ... it gums it up almost instantly on "Stir" setting. It just makes paste out of the flour-fat mixture before I've even added the liquid, Had to toss 2 batches, and at 86, believe me, I am no novice. Stick with the paddle attachment and save your money.

With the new pastry attachment, I can cream butter straight from the freezer in my creations. It's made of heavy steel coated with a white product that keeps dough from sticking. I love this product.

Although it is made for pastries it can be used in a wide variety of applications and does all the hard work for you. It will give you that nice flaky crust without tiring your arms out. Me and this beater will be working happily together for many years.

I make all my own gluten free pastries, and this makes the whole process so easy. I used to hand mix the cut butter into the flour mix, or sometimes use the flat beater, but not any more!

I was wondering when they would come out with something like this and than they did so I knew I had to jump on the opportunity! The attachment came packaged well with no issues at all. It is extremely easy to attach to the stand mixer. I used the attachment in a trial run before the busy holiday cookie season and it did not disappoint! It performed well and did a great job of cutting the butter into my dough no problem! Before I would have issues with all the dough getting caught into a big ball. This attachment serious put a end to that! And will be a huge help this cookie season. I love that they included the scraper! It’s ideal and perfect for getting any dough off the beater. The pastry beater cut down several steps in the preparation process, greatly reducing the time to go from zero to tasty biscuits. This is a must have addition if you're going to use your mixer to make pastries. It just makes it so much easier and more convenient.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I love anything from Kitchen Aid. The pastry beater is well made but does not seem like a useful tool for making pastry. It breaks up the dough but does not provide the same results when making pasty in a food processor. I did not really see the point of this attachment though in theory it seems like a good idea.

This saves me from having to cut cold butter into flour by hand when I'm making any pastries that have a flaky dough. It helps keep me from over mixing and ending up with dough that has to be tossed. It comes with a scraper so cleanup is a breeze and it's dishwasher safe. You can use this for many other things, I make my own baby foods at home and this is good for mashing upon shredding meats, fruits and veggies too. With the holiday season coming up and all the baking I do this will get plenty of use and I'm so glad I have this to make it easier on me!

The pastry blender from KitchenAid takes this to a new level. It blends the crust without melting the butter which makes for a flaky perfect crust. My girlfriend tried it out with her grandmothers croissant recipe, and man, I didn't think they could get any better. They were way more flaky than normal and had a consistent flavor until the last bite. I also tried it out with my grandmothers pie crust recipe and it was great. I always have a hard time getting the dough to stick together while not over mixing. This really simplified the process. And again, the dough was mixed to perfection. (it's not set it and forget it - make sure to keep an eye on it! Overall, highly recommend. It can really take the frustration out of mixing pastry dough!!

Thankfully, it came with instructions/procedure on how to put together a pie crust. Worked very well and is an alternative to how I traditionally make pie crusts (food processer). This fit easily in my stand mixer and was very sturdy.
