Q: Does it remove salt or sodium?

submitted by freetobe - 1 month ago
  • A: Hello, LifeStraw products do not remove salt or sodium from water. They are not designed for desalination and should not be used with seawater, brackish water, or other saltwater sources. If you are trying to reduce sodium from softened water, we recommend using a treatment method specifically designed for dissolved minerals, such as reverse osmosis or distillation.

Q: Does it filter sodium or salt from soften water? Thanks, Alene

submitted by freetobe - 2 months ago
  • A: Hi there, LifeStraw filters are not designed to remove sodium or salt from softened water. Water softeners typically replace hardness minerals, like calcium and magnesium, with sodium or potassium. These dissolved minerals are very small and remain in the water after filtration. LifeStraw products are designed to reduce contaminants such as bacteria, parasites, microplastics, sediment, and certain chemicals depending on the specific product, but they do not desalinate water or remove dissolved salts. If you need to reduce sodium or salt, you would typically need a system designed for that purpose, such as reverse osmosis or distillation. If you are using softened water primarily for taste, a LifeStraw product with an activated carbon filter may help improve taste, but it will not remove the sodium itself.

Q: how much does the membrane filter cost and what is the life span of it?

submitted by dee - 2 months ago
  • A: Hi there, The LifeStraw Home Membrane Microfilter is currently listed at $19.95 on LifeStraw.com. Pricing can vary by retailer or promotion. The membrane microfilter lasts up to 264 gallons, or about 1 year with regular use. You may need to replace it sooner if your water has higher sediment or if the flow slows significantly and does not improve with troubleshooting.

Q: Can this pitcher filter haloacetic acids and/or trihalomethanes?

submitted by Rachel - 5 months ago
  • A: Hello, LifeStraw products are not currently certified to remove haloacetic acids (HAAs) or trihalomethanes (THMs) from drinking water. These are common disinfection byproducts (DBPs) formed when chlorine or other disinfectants react with natural organic matter in water. While our activated carbon + ion exchange filters do reduce many chemical contaminants—such as chlorine, PFAS, pesticides, and pharmaceuticals—they have not been tested or certified specifically for THMs or HAAs.

Q: How long for water to be filtered

submitted by Chang - 6 months ago
  • A: That's a great question. Once broken in, the flow rate should be about 85–225 ml per minute (roughly 1/3 to 1 cup per minute). For example, the 7-Cup Pitcher typically takes 7 minutes to filter a batch, while the full 7 cups take about 20–25 minutes.

My first Water Filter Pitcher Makes a Difference.

The water tastes a million times better than tap water. No more indigestion fromy hard tap water. The pitcher is easy to put together & is easy to wash. . I like that it is anattractive glass pitcher that fits in the refrigerator. I just wish that the filters are not plastic. I think that all brands have plastic filters. I believe that it is BPA free, There are two filters in the pitcher. one of them needs replacement every two months. The other one is good for a year. The best part is the company provides a underprivileged child with clean drinking water for an entire year! .

I Have Not Used It Yet

In a few days I plan to travel to a very remote area in NW Nevada. The place I will be staying has well water. I plan to use the pitcher to purify the water for drinking. Hopefully I can give a follow up review after the trip.

    Love it

The glass container reassures us that microplastics aren't going back into the filtered water.

    Attractive pitcher

Unlike my old Zero water, the lifestraw can be filled without taking the lid off making it much more user friendly. It is more attractive as well

    Thanks!

My wife and I like our new Lifestraw filter pitcher a lot. It looks good. The water tastes good. So happy to be moving away from plastic pitchers. The one downside is that the handle is so high up. Given how heavy the pitcher gets when it's fuller of water, it would be better, we think, if the handle were more like halfway down the side, to allow for a better balance, less of a strain on the hand, when picking it up.

The pitcher cracks after a few months

I really wanted to like this pitcher, but unfortunately, it cracked after a couple of months. They sent me a replacement that lasted a little longer, but after 6 months or so, it also cracked even though I was placing it over some rubber base to limit the impact over the counter. I had pitchers from other brands and this never happened, not even after years of use.

    Tastes great!

We're enjoying the new water filter pitcher. The water tastes good and I'm glad it filters PFAS, which are an issue in our area.

    great product

super sleek and beautiful design! the glass keeps my water colder than the plastic jug I was using before. The filter is slow but honestly, as is to be expected when it filters so much garbage out (It sped up over time also) Overall awesome. It is taller than you would think so maybe measure if you have a small fridge.

    Life Saver

I purchased 4 cases of a water brand that was on recall for somethings in the water. I checked reviews and decided on Lifestraw. Needless to say I only have 1 case left and my water tastes great. I am a kidney transplant recipient and water is big on the treatment list. Yesterday I purchased the 18 cup home dispenser for my friend in Texas. Happy kidney happy life! Thank you.

    Love it!

I love my filtration pitcher. The water tastes great. My reason for the 4 star review is that I wish I’d been told about how long it takes for the water to flow through the filter. It takes quite a while. I’m used to it now but I probably would have chosen something else had I known. But I love the fact that it’s glass and again, the water tastes so good.

    You've Really Done It!

I cannot be happier with this product! I have been looking for a filter system that was 1) glass; 2) had filter parts that actually really worked - and were limited in the amount of plastic used - YOU'VE REALLY DONE IT! I also appreciate that you came up with a design that still allows me to pour filtered water from the pitcher while there is a little more water in the filter chamber that is still filtering (I'm impatient sometimes for good water!). I HIGHLY RECOMMEND this product. Great job!

I'm happy with this purchase so far. Initially the taste was a little weird. . it had somewhat of an aftertaste. Either I got used to it or it went away after around 2-3 pitcher's. . . after the 2-3 pitchers you toss initially. A lot of people have written about the slow filtering process. It is a bit slow, but that hasn't bothered me.

So this is great! The washing instructions were a little unclear but I finally figured it out. The only issue is the height does not work in refrigerators with non-changeable shelf heights (like my son’s).

    It’s amazing!

I live in a rural area of the US with a community well and water tower, surrounded by septic tanks. We’ve been under boil orders more than once, so I quit drinking the water…just because. Seriously, this is life changing for me -I am hydrated, lol. Thank you!

This is a very good product. The water gets filtered slowly so some planning is needed. But I am happy with the performance.

    Second one that leaks

I’m very disappointed with this product. I ordered one in November 2025. After a few months it started leaking at the bottom where a small crack appeared. Re ordered last month and the same thing happened except this time after a few weeks only. This product is not made for everyday use in a busy household. Very sad as I really the look of it.
