Q: What type of batteries does this toothbrush use?

submitted by Dog mom - 6 years ago
  • A: This toothbrush comes with a NiMH (Nickel-metal hydride) battery that shouldn't be changed and is charged through a charging station. For help with the battery give us a call at (800) 566-7252.

    submitted byOral-B - 6 years ago
    Brand expert
  • A: It comes with it's own battery. It charges by being plugged into an outlet, the toothbrush charges by being on the stand via wireless charger. Hope this helps!

    submitted byLovebug4 - 6 years ago
  • A: I’ve had mine for 12 years and the same battery is still charging on the charger.

submitted byskjc - 5 years ago
  • A: its a rechargeable device doesnt need batteries

    submitted bypmlc220394 - 2 years ago
  • A: Ditto about having for 12 years, only ours are probably closer to 18-20 years without any problems whatsoever! Finally the batteries, (built in & permanent), and only just recently, began taking longer to charge and holding less power, thus buying new. Otherwise, they just never die. Zero complaints on our part. Just be sure to replace your brush every three months!

Q: Does this toothbrush have a battery status warning light?

submitted by Les - 3 years ago
  • A: Yes it does! It flashes RED when it needs to charge for about 30 secs after brushing. It also flashes GREEN while charging.

submitted byMeh - 9 months ago
  • A: Yes, it will blink red.

submitted bytheconsciousconsumer - 2 years ago
  • A: No, there is no warning light when the battery runs low.

  • A: Mine does have a light that flashes red when it starts to get low. Not sure what the “expert” is talking about lol

Q: Can you use off-brand replacement heads or do you have to use OralB branded?

submitted by grouper487 - 1 year ago
  • A: Hello! Yes, I’ve used non Oral-B toothbrush heads without any issues.

submitted byMid Century Lover - 11 months ago
  • A: Yes-- I use the BJs brand that is compatible with Oral-B and they work just fine.

submitted byJc - 10 months ago
  • A: We do apologize however, we wouldn't be able to verify if non Oral-B brush heads will be compatible with Oral-B brush handles.

submitted by Tgdolly - 2 years ago

  • A: Per the specs, "Industry or Government Certifications: ADA Seal of Acceptance."

Q: Do I leave it plugged in all the time?

submitted by Noni - 4 years ago
  • A: For maximum battery life, we recommend following this routine. (1) Fully charge the handle for the time recommended in the brush manual instructions. (2) Use the brush until it is completely discharged (or close to fully discharged). (3) Repeat. Do not store the brush on the charger after fully charging. We hope this helps you out! If you have more questions, please give us a call at 1-800-566-7252 from 9AM - 6PM EST Monday - Friday.

    submitted byOral-B - 4 years ago

  • A: That would mean having to wait for 24 hours to recharge and use it again. I think I'll take my chancees and use it for a while, then place it on the charger again until it's recharged.

    submitted byjennywren1420 - 1 year ago
  • A: According to Oral B you may leave on charger but recommend at least every 6 months to fully discharge to prevent issues related to battery memory and extends the overall lifespan of the NiCad battery

Q: I tried this toothbrush for the first time today and it is incredibly loud and aggressive! Is mine defective? I was using an old Oral B model before this one and it was so much quieter and gentler.

submitted by Tish82 - 6 years ago
  • A: My old Oral B toothbrush was quieter and gentler, too, but not as effective, I think (though I loved it and got excellent checkups). I guess that's the trade-off.

    submitted byjennywren1420 - 1 year ago
  • A: You can expect your toothbrushes volume to be between 65-67 decibels while in use. We'd be happy to look into this further for you just call us at 800 566-7252 when you have time.

    submitted byOral-B - 6 years ago

  • A: NYT Wirecutter tested the Oral B 1000 at 35 decibels and did state a little louder than 1500 that tested at 31 decibels

    submitted byKat10 - 1 year ago

Q: Does it come with multiple tooth brushes so that more than one person can use it?

submitted by Kelly - 8 years ago
  • A: But you can switch out the brush head (removable) for each person.

    submitted byjennywren1420 - 4 years ago
  • A: The Pro 1000 only comes with one brush head.

    submitted byOral-B - 6 years ago
    Brand expert
  • A: The brush is easy to remove, and you can buy extra brushes for the other people to use.

    submitted byjennywren1420 - 4 years ago

Q: could it be used univerally? What's the plug voltage?

submitted by Nina - 9 years ago
  • A: If you have a transformer that converters your electrical service to 120 volts, then you can use it.

    submitted byBob W - 9 years ago
  • A: No. The charger only works with 120 VAC (eg US). I tried to use one in Europe with a plug converter (not a transformer) and that broke it.

submitted byLex - 8 years ago
  • A: Oral-B electric toothbrushes contain either a nickel-metal hydride (NiMH) battery or a lithium-ion (Li-Ion) battery. NiMH batteries have a nominal voltage of 1.2 V; the Li-Ion battery has a nominal voltage of 3.6 V. The Pro Crossaction 1000 Brush has a NiMH (Nickel-metal hydride) battery.

Q: Can you use this toothbrush in the shower?

submitted by Lindsey - 9 years ago
  • A: Yes, all Oral-B electric toothbrushes are waterproof, so it is fine to use them in the shower. However, we don’t recommend immersing your brush in water. We recommend making sure that you completely dry the handle after use and before charging.

    submitted byOral-B - 6 years ago
    Brand expert
  • A: I never tried it but I wash mine off under the running faucet every time I use mine. The case appears to be sealed so as long as the case isn't damaged you can.

    submitted byBob W - 9 years ago
  • A: Yes but its a monumental waste of water and energy to heat that water. Even worse than leaving the water running while brushing.

submitted byZika - 2 years ago

Q: I have mine a month now and it leaves a white residue when left standing in the bathroom cabinet. The toothpaste I use is green and I wipe the brush down before putting it in the cabinet. Any ideas?

submitted by Jim - 2 years ago
  • A: There is nothing in the toothbrush that will leave a residue, and making sure to clean it after every use is what we would recommend, Jim. Call us at (800) 566-7252 so we can look into this further.

  • A: Probably the scale in the water and residual water and toothpaste stuck in the nooks and crannies and under 5be brush head. I shake off and dry the entire wand with a towel after removing the head and do the same with the head and store it off the wand between brushing.

This replaced my 10 year old oral b when its battery crapped out. The new one has a slick finish and formed with a flat surface compared to the old one. Consequently, when the handle gets wet (which you expect a toothbrush to do), it slips around in my hand. I'll put on some sort of grip tape. Should do the trick.

    Returning this toothbrush ASAP

This feels like a very weak toothbrush power wise and isn’t worth $50. I’ve tried it out for a week and feel like my teeth aren’t getting cleaned as good as they were with my previous toothbrush. I previously had a Phillips, but decided to try Oral-B, now I know to stick with Phillips from now on. I plan on returning this toothbrush and getting a Phillips again.

    Gets moldy very fast

I got this toothbrush for christmas because I wanted to replace my sonicare. It cleans good, but i’ve had a big problem with mold. there’s so many holes in the head that water seeps into, and under the head there is a small crevice that builds up gunk that I can’t get rid of. Every time i use it i wipe it dry, but no matter what i can’t get rid of the mold. I didn’t notice a problem with battery life and it’s somewhat simple to use (power button is finicky).

Thanks, Rory, for sharing your Oral-B Pro Crossaction 1000 Rechargeable Electric Toothbrush review. Mold can develop after use if the brush is stored damp or cleaned with certain soaps that make plastic porous. Here’s what we recommend: - After each use, remove the brush head and rinse both head and handle separately under running water. - Dry both parts completely before reattaching. - Store your brush in a clean, dry place. - Avoid using soaps that might damage the plastic. We're here to do what we can to help. If you need more assistance, call us at 1 (800) 566-7252.

    Disappointing All Around

I got this Oral-B 1000 to replace my Philips Sonicare, which broke after about 18 months. I had read many great reviews on this toothbrush and had high hopes. Unfortunately I am quite disappointed in the Oral-B 1000. My teeth do not feel as clean after a brushing. The clean does not feel like it lasts. The toothbrush gahters water beneath the brushhead which runs down the handle and forms a white ring on whatever surface it rests on. Removing the head after each brush simply transfers the drip to wherever the head goes. The toothbrush is also much noiseier than the one I had. The battery only lasts a few days in between charges. Overall I did not get anything I hoped for out of this toothbrush. I expected more out of Oral-B. I'll be switching back to Sonicare.

    Rubber on switch gets mildewy

Rubber section of on-switch smells like mildew. Cleaned it with various cleaning products, always smells like mildew again when it gets wet and whole brushing teeth. It’s gross, I even take the tooth brush head off to dry. And it’s the rubbed part on the toothbrush handle. Huge design flaw.
    1 reply from Oral-B team - 1 month ago
Thank you for your feedback. We’re sorry to hear about your experience with your brush handle and understand your frustration, especially when you’ve tried cleaning it. Please be assured our products are manufactured and packaged under strict quality controls to ensure they reach you in the best possible condition. All of our electric toothbrushes are designed to make them easier to clean, and nothing can get inside. There's nothing on our brush handles or brush heads that would cause an unpleasant odor. We recognize that you clean your brush, but we suggest trying our cleaning tips. After brushing, thoroughly rinse the brush head while the toothbrush is switched on to minimize toothpaste residue remaining on the brush between uses. Then after rinsing, switch the brush off, remove the brush head from the handle, and clean both parts separately under running water. Wipe both the handle and brush head dry (with a soft towel) and leave them to air dry completely before putting them back together. If necessary, it is OK to use a mild detergent/cleanser and water to clean the outside of the handle. Your feedback is important to us, and we’d be happy to learn more. Please call us at (800) 566-7252 so we can assist you further.

    Moldy

I had one of these for about 5 years before it stopped holding a charge & I replaced it with the same model January 2026. I don’t know what materials used in manufacturing these changed but this model develops mold overnight in all the crevices and bottom of the handle! It also doesn’t hold a charge as long and the newish different speed settings is a pain in the butt when you’re just wanting to turn the thing off. Never buying this again.
    1 reply from Oral-B team - 2 months ago
We’re sorry to hear about this, Lizbeth, and we understand you're likely frustrated. It might help to know that the Oral-B Pro 1000 has a Ni-MH (Nickel-metal hydride) battery. A full charge can take up to 22 hours. Regarding the other concern you mentioned, because there’s nothing in our toothbrush components that would cause mold, this isn’t expected. Mold requires organic material to grow, which isn’t present in our brushes. While it’s rare, mold can develop after use if the brush is stored in a damp area or comes into contact with certain cleaning agents or soaps that can make the plastic porous. Be sure to completely clean and dry your brush after each use, by rinsing the brush head under running water with the handle on. Then switch it off, remove the head, clean both parts separately, and dry them before reattaching. We’d be glad to talk further with you about this, and help as we can. Call us any Monday through Friday, from 9 AM to 6 PM, EST. Our number is 1 (800) 492-7378.

We're sorry your Pro 1000 Toothbrush is only lasting 3 to 4 brushes. This isn't something we'd expect, and we'll be happy to help you further, Robert. Our toothbrushes undergo diligent quality checks to ensure they operate for at least 10 days when fully charged and used regularly (twice a day for 2 minutes), and it may be helpful to check the troubleshooting tips on our Oral-B website, if you haven't already, to see if it will get your toothbrush operating normally. Please note that using a lot of pressure or brushing longer than 2 minutes can decrease the available brushing time, and we'd like to learn more about your experience and assist further with your toothbrush. This toothbrush is so loud, I burst out laughing the first time I turned it on. It will wake up your household. Also, the heads seem poorly designed with holes that will trap gunk. I’m very unimpressed.

I’ve wanted an oral b electric toothbrush for a while but couldn’t justify spending the money on one. When I saw this one, I was so excited to try it. I actually thought I got a defective one because of how loud it is but after reading other reviews it seems it’s just that loud. Like others said, the button is really hard to press and getting it to turn off is a fight in itself. However, I do feel like it cleans my teeth pretty well. I just think there’s probably better electric toothbrushes out there that are more worthy of your money.

This thing is comically loud. I got this as a stocking stuffer for the wife because she wanted to replace an old Sonicaire but she wishes she got a new Sonicaire instead. Not only loud but she feels it doesn’t quite clean the same.

We're disappointed to hear about this, Alex. Please give us a call at (800) 566-7252. We want your wife to be very happy with her Oral-B electric toothbrush and hope to gather a few more details to pass along to our Quality Assurance team. We can then replace this brush with another Pro 1000 or help you get a different Oral-B electric toothbrush for your wife.

    Cleans well

love this toothbrush for my daughter. She likes to brush her teeth herself, the regular toothbrush wasn't cutting it. This helps keep plaque away and get a good clean. You can tell the difference between this brush and a regular non agitator one.

    Nope.

There's no pressure sensor, or at least nothing changes to indicate it. You have to cycle through all three speeds to turn it off. It doesn't shut off when I hit two minutes. It doesn't hold a charge for more than a few days. All of that stuff is annoying, but the worst part is that it holds water somewhere. It leaks water the entire time I brush, which makes the handle slippery and hard to hold. I try to shake all of the water out when I'm done, but it still leaves a sticky ring on the charger or counter. The water inside makes me concerned about growing mold. Ugh. It might be getting my teeth clean, might not, but I'd rather use a regular toothbrush than deal with this slippery, messy, gross thing.

Thanks for trying the Oral-B Pro 1000 and sharing your feedback. We perform extensive tests and consumer monitors to design a toothbrush with features we hope you'll love, and hearing from consumers like you helps us improve. While it isn't typical for our toothbrushes to get water inside the handle due to them being sealed, we want to gather some details from you to share with our Quality Assurance Team and assist you further. Please call us at 1-800-566-7252.
