This thing does NOT cook rice. Had it on cook for about 5 minutes and then I heard a click noise. Went to check and it switched to warm. The rice was clearly not cooked. I hit down the cook button again and it would not switch back to cook.

inside chipping and malfunction
I see the paint chipping from inside the bowl .. only use the plastic spoon so im not sure what is going on .. calling customer service to see if it can be replaced since it's been 90 days unfortunately I don't use it often and also went on vacation so just be careful with this product also doesn't sense when I add rice and water best thing it to upgrade and get a different rice cooker

The chipping and malfunction of the inside of your Aroma rice cooker could be due to several factors. Metal utensils used for cooking can scratch the non-stick coating, leading to peeling over time. Overheating without enough water or leaving the rice cooker on "keep warm" for too long can cause thermal stress, cracking the coating. Abrasive cleaning tools like scouring pads or steel wool can strip away the non-stick layer. Improper storage of heavy cookware on top of the rice pot can cause dents that break the coating's surface. Age and wear can also degrade non-stick coatings due to repeated heating and washing cycles. If the inner pot is chipped, it is best to replace the pot rather than the entire appliance. This rice cooker is terrible. I followed the directions to a tee and it still boiled over constantly. Multiple times I've tried, and always get the same result. The machine is just crap.

Hello, We are sorry to hear you are having an issue with the unit. A few trouble shoots to try if the unit is over boiling. Be sure to us the cup that is provided to measure the rice. If a U.S. cup is used it will be more rice than needed. The cup provided is 6 ounces or 3/4 of a U.S. cup. Be sure to have the rice in the inner pot prior to filling to corresponding water line. Especially with white rice do make sure to rinse off any excess starch as it can contribute to over boil. We recommend doing it in the inner pot so you can see how opaque the water is. I bought this before a big winter storm. I needed a low wattage cooker I could use with my solar powered generator, if we lost power. Luckily, we did not. I just used the cooker for the first time to make jasmine rice for dinner. I followed the directions on how to measure the rice (using the cup provided) and added water AFTER putting the rice in the cooker, using the water lines on the bowl. It's important to follow the directions and not measure the water and rice as you would for a regular pot. The rice turned out great! The bowl is lightweight and I'm not sure how long it will last. Best to make sure you wash it with just warm water, dish soap and a soft sponge or brush - nothing abrasive - to keep the coating intact. Also the spoon is flimsy. I used a wooden spoon instead - make sure you are not using anything in the bowl that can scratch or chip the coating as that will create hot spots and make cleaning difficult. Very happy with this purchase!

While it technically cooked the rice, not very well. The inside pot also does not sit inside the device evenly and left burn?? marks on the bottom of the pot. The rice came out very sticky and it kept bubbling over CONSTANTLY despite trying multiple times with whote rice and measuring exactly how the instructions said to. Better to just save your money on a better rice cooker.

After six months, the smell of freshly cooked rice is replaced with that of burnt plastic and disappointment. So skip this shiny temptation, and instead buy something that will last; you deserve it.

Piece of Crap
I am really disapppointed in Target for selling a refurbished Rice cooker. I bought one of these and it broke the first day. I bought another thinking I could return the other and it was from some 3rd party distributor. This second one broke too. I had such a hard time returning this, no one at the store knew how to do a return for a 3rd party item. Finally after 30 minutes a manager figured it out. And then my first one was out of date for return so I got burned the 37 dollars. DO NOT BUY THIS ITEM if refurbished.

I have been told so many times that I need a rice cooker--so much simpler than stovetop! turns out great every time! even with the cheap models! So I finally bought this one, which is generally well-recommended. Made two attempts, once with jasmine, once with regular long-grain. Each time I read and followed the directions, measured water and rice carefully -- and each time I ended up with clumpy sticky blobs, unevenly cooked. I suppose it's possible my particular cooker was defective, hence the three stars, but I'd advise other buyers not to throw away the packaging until you've tried it out.
