Q: Does the end cap come off so I can use put flat valence with a header on it?
A: Yes the flat cap can be taken off by unscrewing it.

Q: What is the length of the finial? I read that it is about 1 1/4" in diameter, but I didn't see the length.
A: Dear SK. The length is 2/3" (0.66 inches).

Q: Why don't the finish color of the brackets match the rod color!? Rod is a brown oil rubbed bronze, but brackets are a dark copperish brown. So frustrating.

Regarding your comments on the wide color variations between the rods and brackets; we try to coordinate these and color match them the best we can. But please note there will always be some color variation between finished decorative finials, iron rods and mounting brackets due to different electroplating and paint coating processes.
