Hello Ally We add a moisturizing agent in the manufacturing process of cellulose sponges. This moisturizing agent is a humectant to keep them soft and pliable in the package. Typically, the sponges will dry out some before the consumer gets them so they won't feel as damp. The humectant is nontoxic and does rinse out when the sponges are first used Regards,

Opened package to Damp sponges
Purchased these sponges online and once opened the sponges were damp to touch. I threw them out as I didn’t want to risk using moldy sponges.

Poor quality
I bought these for crafting, not even for scrubbing dishes, but when we opened the (sealed) package the sponges were damp to the touch. They also had a yellow stain on them that looked like urine (idk if it was or not but still off putting). I would not use these. 🤢

I like using these sponges because they are more sanitary than a dish rack. And if you want to give it a quick jolt of sanitizing, you just put it in the microwave wet for 60 seconds. I like the price as well but I don't like is that these are thinner can I expected. I will buy them again however because they do the job and I like cellulose for cleaning counters and washing my dishes.

Didn't realize I've relied on cellulose sponges my whole life until I tried these synthetic ones. These don't absorb much, but worse, is impossible to squeeze them out fully! They're also far too stiff for dishes or anything involving getting into small areas.

A little funky
I mean they work but when I opened them, they smelt and felt weird. Also one of the blue ones had like a yellow stain on it. I couldn't get it out and I am just using these to clean art supplies so I don't care about food safety or whatever but just a warning.
