The Hamilton Beach 8 Quart Programmable Set and Forget Slow Cooker works great! It automatically switches to warm when cooking is done.

Just received and I haven't had a chance to use it. It seems very easy to use. I make a lot of stews, soups, roasts, chickens corned beef and cabbage. Can't wait to try it out.

This is too big for two people. It over cooks most of the time and I assume that's because it needs to be completely full. It's also too large to easily wash in the sink. My biggest concern however is the condition of the heating element less than two years of ownership. See the attached photo. This looks like a fire hazard and now I can't use it when I'm not around to keep an eye on it.

I like that it goes to warm when the cooking time is done.

This 8 qt slow cooker is great for cooking good-sized meals without worrying about spillovers and such. Easy to program, easy to clean, not too heavy. The only issues: 1) cord is short; 2) you can't just turn it on to, say, low heat - you need to program a time for that; and 3) when it's done with the time that you do set, it doesn't alert you with a beep when it's finished. It turns to warm, which is fine, but I would have preferred an alert when it's done. All in all, I'm happy with it, though.

My previous crock pot worked well for 13 years. I replaced it with this slightly larger Hamilton Beach slow cooker in August, and about 6 months later it won’t turn on. I’m so disappointed that I wasted my money.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] For years, I have been using a 6 quart slow cooker, which worked great, but always thought it was a bit too small for my family of 5 or at the Holidays (and I like to make sure I have leftovers to freeze or use for a few days). So, I finally decided to try an 8 quart and I love this size! I can now easily double a recipe and it all fits. Some other features I really like; 1. Very easy to clean because the outside chrome colored base wipes clean and the inside black container pulls out simply and has come clean in the dishwasher every time I have used it with no problems. 2. The red light of the digital clock is easy to read even a room away. 3. The clock counts down while cooking and counts up while on warm (I really appreciate this feature because I know how long ago it switched to 'warm,' especially due to one of the 'minor inconveniences' I list below). 3. There is a warm, low and high setting and switches to warm after the low/high timer has counted down. 4. Simple to set the timer/setting and use with the 30 minute increments on both low and high settings. The time blinks while setting and then stays solid red once you have it the way you want. 5. Cooks well and has not burned or undercooked any recipe I have made so far. I have made soups, desserts, and casseroles. 6. Buttons push easily without having to push hard. As I stated in my title, it is almost the perfect slow cooker, but there are 2 things I wished were different and I consider more of minor inconveniences rather than negatives; 1. I think the cord is too short, it would be better if a little longer. I can only use it at one of my kitchen outlets, because of this (other outlets would require a longer cord). I can and will use it, but multiple outlet choices would be nicer. 2. I am spoiled with my last slow cooker as it would beep three times when it finished the cooking countdown and then switched to the warm setting. This one does not 'beep' at all and I have to keep a closer eye on the timer when I know it is getting close to being down. Luckily, the warm setting does count up, so at least I know how long ago it switched. I must admit, I really l do miss the 'beep,' feature of my other one. Again, not a deal breaker, as I really like this slow cooker overall.

The timer is so convenient and automatically switches to warm after I have programmed my cooking temperature and time.It can be programmed with cooking and warming time up to 20 hours. My first attempt at using this slow cooker I made a combination of a 5 lb beef and 3 lb pork roast with vegetables. I filled about 2/3 full and still had plenty of room and no overcrowding. I used the low setting and it cooked everything perfectly. I wanted to try the high setting so I tried an almost 7 lb. whole chicken, it was done in 4 hours. We loved it. Clean up of the crock is a breeze and is dishwasher safe. This is a nice, sturdy slow cooker. It is very well made. My favorite feature has to be its size. It will be great to use for large family functions, parties and most especially holiday time. I am very happy with my Hamilton Beach 8 quart slow cooker.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] When I use my Hamilton Beach Slow Cooker, I feel like I cloned myself. It's as if I went to work and I stayed home and prepared a full meal for my family. The night before, I simply put in all of my ingredients for my infamous chicken and dumplings into the removable Crock, cover and place it in the fridge till morning. Before I leave to go to work, I place the Crock into the Slow Cooker, set the timer for 7 hours on low. It doesn’t over cook because it cuts off in exactly 7 hours. When I get home, I turn it back on high, add my sliced biscuits, and by the time, I change my clothes and set the table, dinner is complete. Whether I'm preparing Chicken and Dumplings, or Brown Sugar Balsamic Glazed Pork Tenderloin, the result is the same. The meat is tender and juicy, and the flavor of the dish is savory. The Hamilton Beach slow cooker does it all for you. It tenderizes, bake, roast and baste all for you. All you have to do is eat and clean it for the next meal. And, cleaning is so easy. The removable crock allows you to clean it in the sink. Even my Brown Sugar Balsamic Glazed Pork Tenderloin doesn't stick. There's nothing more I need to say other than my Hamilton Beach Slow Cooker is my BFF… Best Food Fixer!!

The 8-quart capacity is great, to allow me to cook larger items, and the oval shape is so practical. It's great that it automatically reverts to the warm setting after the cooking time is completed, so that the food stays hot. The digital model allows me to set the exact cooking time and temperature. You can't go wrong with this slow cooker!

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I have been looking for a slow cooker that can handle large quantities for our weekly family dinner (8-12 adults) This 8 quart model is great! My first meal in it was 20 medium pork chops with a glaze. This week I did chicken and dumplings (1 1/2 times the recipe for a 6 quart slow cooker). Both cooked perfectly - plenty of room with no bubbling over the top. I always use a disposable liner on my slow cookers and was afraid that I would not find any to fit this larger one, but my normal liner that says it fits up to 6.5 quart fit well with a little stretching to accommodate the crock handles. It was tall enough to go completely over the bottom and overhang the top. I really like the control pad and led display - very easy to set and read. The time count down that turns the temperature to warm after set time is reached is a good feature as many times I have forgotten to turn a slow cooker to low when we started serving. The only improvement I would like to see is a separate light to indicate that the cooking time has been reached it is now counting up the warming time - or maybe the warm temp light showing yellow instead of red.

I have used it to prepare different types of food, from a robust pot roast with scads of vegetables, to a delicate, creamy rice pudding. The cooker performs beautifully. It cooks perfectly and uniformly in the shortest time specified in the recipes. It's clear lid enables me to check the cooking food without allowing any heat to escape by lifting the lid. The "warm" feature is a great help, particularly since it keeps track of how much time it holds the food after it has cooked. I love the large size! I've doubled sized each recipe I've made and cut the time I have to cook anything in half. Finally, it is such a handsome design that I'm proud to display it. The crock is heavy and somewhat bulky to clean, but that is only due to it's large capacity. I look forward to years of fun, easy cooking with my slow cooker. It's truly a top quality product.
