Q: You mentioned that it removes microplastics but the pitcher itself is made of plastic so how is that possible?

submitted by Gilda - 2 years ago
  • A: Hi Gilda, Thank you for the email. We share your concerns about microplastics in our water, and take their presence and removal seriously. Microplastics are defined as plastic particulate 1 μm and 1000 μm in size. They can be intentionally made for specific uses, like microbeads in cosmetics, or from when larger plastic items break down due to weathering, material breakage, or mechanical forces. Additionally, microplastics can originate from synthetic fibers shedding off textiles during washing and use. The pitchers and housing are made of durable plastic materials that do not break down with normal use or time, and do not contribute to microplastic particulate in your water. All materials are also BPA-free and approved and verified for water contact. We also try to ensure we are responsible at manufacturing stages to limit waste when and where possible. Our LifeStraw membrane microfilters are made of Polysulfone, a high-performance thermoplastic that's tough and safe. It maintains its strength even in high temperatures, ensuring safe and reliable filtration. Thus, our product itself won't introduce microplastics into your water through regular usage at the normal temperature condition. The LifeStraw membrane microfilter is specifically designed to remove microplastic particles from drinking water. Through rigorous testing, we've confirmed that our filters block an impressive 99.999% of 1µm microplastic particulates in water. The high rate of reduction efficacy shows that our LS Home product do not add microplastics to the filtered water, and confirms our product itself won't introduce microplastics into your water through regular usage. We have recently posted a blog on this subject at our site. I recommend reviewing it for more information about the emerging science and how our products fit into the conversation: https://lifestraw.com/blogs/news/filtering-microplastics-and-nanoplastics-from-drinking-water Thank you for reaching out and please let us know if we can be of further assistance. We're happy to help.

    Slow drip

I really like the product but refilling is a problem! It takes too long. I know it’s filtering but it’s not working for more than one person

Like the filter but the plastic pitcher is okay

I love my lifestraw products. I also have a glass pitcher. I though a plastic version for my upstairs bathroom would be a better idea plus it came in fun colors they didn't have in glass. But the inner filter part slips around requiring me to hold it at an odd angle so I can keep a finger on the top as I pour. It's not at all what I expected from lifestraw.

    Very Useful

I like to have a cold pitcher of FILTERED water sitting in my refrigerator ready to use. Another great product from Life Straw to add to my collection of Life Straws items.

Love the taste and the assurance of safe water when we are traveling! It is certainly a lot slower to filter than I would prefer but good things come to those who wait.

    Not a very good purchase

The filter worked well, however, the plastic is definitely not robust, as after barely five months, the plastic pitcher began to leak! Other minor issues that were annoying: 1) Refilling the well is messy with a flip top cover; 2) The handle is not placed in the right place and is very uncomfortable when the pitcher is full of water. Being a tall and narrow pitcher does not seem to be a good design; 3) I prefer a sensor to alert when the filter needs to be replaced versus changing every 2 months.

    Easy to clean and manage

I bought this filter pitcher to replace one from a different brand that I’ve had for years. Their filtering was excellent but the pitcher was awful—too big, too heavy, unergonomic and hard to clean. The LifeStraw pitcher was so thoughtfully designed; you don’t have to remove the top to fill it, it’s easy to clean, it’s a manageable size and weight for smaller hands, and it’s attractive, too. The water tastes great; what more could you ask for?

    It works

I bought this pitcher for a friend whose town has what she calls “skunk water”. So she used bottled water for all water based beverages. I sent her the LifeStraw pitcher and she said it took all of the skunk out of the tap water and she is able to drink it now. Brilliant!

This does not filter at all. Unsafe for drinking

Did not filter water at all. Video shows tap water and lifestraw pitcher water. It only removes the tap water taste but does not filter at all.

Drips EXTREMELY slowly and lid leaks when pouring

I used to have the 10 cup and got the 7 cup bc the bottoms cracked and started leaking. The 7 cups drips incredibly slowly. I’ve had this for months now and it has barely sped up. Also, the lid doesn’t fit snugly enough and water pours out of the side if you don’t pour extremely slowly. It’s very frustrating

    Great pitcher

I bought this pitcher so that I could have filtered water for my coffee maker. I have the 18 cup dispenser in my fridge and love the difference it has made in my drinking water. But, my coffee maker works best with room temperature water, so I purchased the 7 cup pitcher for that. My coffee is a bit of a splurge, but clean safe water never is.

    Integrity. Buy with confidence!

Quick to respond to any questions. A product that I’m more than happy with! To drink water that’s clean, no plastics or waste that can make my family sick is more than comforting. There are so many things, especially now, that we could do silver all about I’m thankful, but there is a company that actually cares about our health and will being! I bought the large pitcher, makes it easy to simply refill and have it ready to serve, pure clean water to the people I love.

I recently bought a Life Straw pitcher/filter because a friend had one and recommended it highly, and I agree with his assessment! It's a great product, the instructions are clear and easy to follow and the water tastes terrific.
