  • A: Hi there, Yes, both are a dark brown with a neutral base. Differences are: Nice n Easy 4N is permanent and will cover 100% gray. Natural Instincts 4N is a Demi permanent and will wash out gradually (within 28 shampoos) and will blend gray up to 35%. If you are looking for more gray coverage, Nice n Easy would be a good option; however if you are looking for a more blended result that is more temporary, then Natural Instincts would be a good choice.

  • A: Hi, if your hair is colored black, you would need to remove the color first (color cannot lighten color). There are at home color removers or a professional stylist can help. If your hair is naturally black, and you choose a few shades lighter, you'll see a lift. If your hair is naturally black and you choose a color that is more than a few shades lighter, you may experience a lift but also a side effect of a warm (reddish) color. An ash or cool shade can be used to minimize the red tones, but its best to not go more than 2 shades lighter if you want to minimize any brass/red. Regardless, it is always recommended to do a strand test.

    New formula no longer cover grey hair

    I have been using Nice'n Easy 5 Medium Brown for at least five years to cover my grey hair. They have changed the formula lately, and the new formula no longer covers my grey hair properly. It’s sad to have to find an alternative brand to use, but please consider changing it back to the previous formula, as it was by far the best.

    This product just doesn’t like me

    I have used this dye twice in lifetime now (it’s a fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice shame on me kind thing at this point). Each time my hair has come out an extremely dark brown with no reddish tone. This product has so many wonderful reviews which really perplexes me, because this product has never once given me the colour advertised. I once did it on dark brown hair, this dye made it even darker! I’ve since dyed my hair a lighter shade, put this colour on— and i’m back to dark brown! So confusing.

    I would buy again

    Easy to use, my hair is mostly gray and the color did come out a little lighter than I wanted. Box does warn if your hair is gray, it will come out lighter, I just didn’t want to go too dark. I purchased for root touch up only. This does have that ammonia hair color smell, not horrible. I’d buy again.

    Lovely colour

    I have used this colour since it was introduced and love it. I get many compliments which is lovely at 81yrs. The only problem I have is finding it in local shops so often have to buy on line. It starts a little red but after the first shampoo it is perfect. Easy to apply and good instructions

    Made hair cherry black

    Bought this 2 weeks ago and put over freshly blonde box dye lightened hair (for reference I have back hair but use blonde box dye to take to a level 5 brown), the consistency was fine and it smelled nice and cinnamony but if turned my hair CHERRY BLACK. I had to use vitamin c and shampoo to try colour remove and damage control. It ended up darker than wanted and barely any red colour. Very disappointed and would recommend choosing 1 shade lighter or a different brand

    Dark copper result

    There is nothing “light” or “ashy” about this colour. My hair which was first an ashy silver blonde has come out a VERY dark brown with GINGER at the roots.

    Misleading Colour

    Just bought this hair dye and am extremely unhappy with the results. Put it on my dark brown hair to over my roots and it washed out black. Not brown black, but black with blue undertones. Completely ruined my colouring and will not buy again.

    SAD JOKE

    I just finished coloring my hair using Clairol Nice'n Easy product SB2. It was to be a cool summer blond shade. My hair, that were previously colored blond, now turned very grey and blueish. Is this some joke ?! I am a mature person and what should I do now ? I will be ashamed to walk like this among other people ! I purchased this product trusting, that it will give me the color, that I needed and my money went into garbage and I'm NOT HAPPY with myself now. What should I do now ?

    Great formula! Great results!

    This haircolor is excellent. The formula is easy to use and not drippy. I love that the leave-in time is only 10 minutes and the smell is pleasant. I've been using L'Oreal for years but decided to try something new to change from reddish blonde to light auburn. I'm so glad I did. The color is shiny and I have some natural lights. Thank you!

    Beautiful colour that stays unchanged

    This product gives my hair a natural brown colour that doesn't fade. It's the only dye that doesn't become orange in three weeks. I am having trouble to find it in shops lately. I really hope they don't discontinue it. It has taken me years to find something so good.
