There is NO WAY the good reviews for this product are real. I’ve been coloring my hair at home every 6 weeks for nearly a decade. I bought this brand of dye bc mine was out of stock and it’s hands down the worst hair dye I’ve ever used. It’s messy, the gloves are huge and slip all over the place, the foam falls everywhere, it’s impossible to get close to the roots around your face without getting dye all over your skin, it didn’t cover grays well despite leaving it on for the recommended time, my list goes on and on. I have nothing good to say about this product and I will never use it again.

The color itself looked great when it was done after covering faded red hair. You can see the red show through a little bit (which is expected because it never leaves your hair!) but it does still look dark brown and it looks good too. The only complaint i have is that it didn't foam up in my hair. I always buy two boxes just in case one isn't enough, and I used both because my hair was not foamy like the instructions implied. Not sure if I'd use this for anything other than dark brown, but my hair was incredibly soft and shiny afterwards. (Btw, I am not covering any grays, so I'm not sure how that would work.

Nope. Total fail. I really wanted to like this product. The idea of a foam hair color is appealing for so many reasons, including ease of use, less mess, and more even color distribution. This product checked those boxes, but failed miserably on others. First – I used a small amount of the conditioner as a “barrier cream“ before applying color, which I do quite often with other at home hair color kits. Within seconds, my skin began burning and turned red. I had to wash the conditioner off my face before applying the color. Second – the “cool espresso“ color I used ended up being WAY too dark and flat looking. But — and worst of all – ZERO gray coverage. So now I have super dark tips and gray roots. Complete waste of money. I’ll have to go back to my old brand.

I’m losing my hair! It falls out in clumps. This needs to be removed front the shelves. I wish I would have read reviews prior to using it but I didn’t and now I don’t know how to stop my hair falling out.

It made my hair fall out in clumps in the shower rinsing it out and did nothing to my hair. My whole head was saturated and I left it on for 25 mins. I still have grays peeking out at my roots. Total waste of money. I might have gotten an old box because the conditioner smelled a little musty as well. My hair is already a dark brown I got this to diminish my red/orange brassy tones and it didn’t change a thing. The foam was nice if it had worked. I’m sticking to Madison Reed. Pricy but worth it.

I’m so disappointed I was trying to cover up my grey hairs and brighten my hair color throughout my hair. I was happy with my hair looking rejuvenated with color throughout my hair……… but it did not cover my greys. I use to use this John Frieda brand years ago and it would work for greys. I have no clue why it did not work this time. I’m disappointed and frustrated because I want my money back. I don’t know if I can get it back. But I was trying to do this all before my anniversary and I feel like I have to dye my hair again.

Sadly for me it just didn’t give me much grey coverage. Was easy to use and the foam was quicker than liquid+brush application but way too many greys left uncovered so won’t be able to use again

The medium blonde shade is the perfect blonde!!!! I bleach my dark roots then use this box dye as an all over color/toner and it’s perfect! It doesn’t dry out my hair and it doesn’t give any weird color! I was having issues with all other blonde box dyes either making my hair grey or yellow. If you are looking for the perfect blonde tone you found it! Buy this!

I wouldn’t necessarily say this is a chocolate brown but it is on the warmer side. I’d like to find one warmer that’s not orange but for now this will be my go to. I have shoulder length hair and I had about 1/4 of the bottle left after saturating completely. Very even color, and the conditioner makes my hair so smooth and soft. Hoping it lasts a good while.

I never leave product reviews but I would recommend using any other available hair dye brand than this. I read the negative reviews but decided to still give this a try due to the positive reviews that were also present and I honestly regret using this product. The color is mediocre and is not worth the damage. My hair was very healthy (routine cuts, minimal heat, and had not dyed in 12+ months) and this product is incredibly damaging despite me not leaving it on for the full 30 minutes. My hair is dry, I’ve lost my curl/wave pattern due to damage, and am shedding an excess amount of hair both in and out of the shower like other reviews have mentioned. Even after using deep conditioning treatments and hair oils to try to bring moisture back to my hair my hair is still dry and more damaged than it previously was. Please just skip this product.

Good application process and even color that matched the description, but it did not have 100% gray coverage that it claims. I'm in my 20's with just a few small grays around my hairline and it didn't even cover those (with heavy handed application at my roots too) so I can't imagine this will cover anyone's grays.
