New Features
This unit is my third GE countertop ice maker. The unit appears to have many upgrades. The scale inhibiting filter, air filter, and enhanced control panel. I use nothing but distilled water in my units and follow the cleaning instructions on a monthly basis. We will see if this unit makes it more than 18 months.

The design and performance was really complete in the beginning. However, the lighted instructions on the front were always malfunctioning. (ex. when it says needs more water, the reserve tank was full. Then when says making ice was not. Says to sanitize when I sanitized a week before as the instructions said with new filter. The capacity and noise level was just fine for us.

We'd like to help out with the indicators not going away. We recommend trying out an electronic reset, to help with the controls. This can be done by unplugging the power cord for 2-3 hours, then plugging it back in. Great chewable ice!
This is my second opal ice maker, the first one was destroyed along with my house by a tornado. I really love my opal ice maker! Makes the best chewable ice, better than Sonic's ice. I noticed my second unit has some improvements, glad to see them. The only negative I can say is if you don't have counter space to place it by a sink to drain it, be prepared to pick it up, it's a bit heavy.

Terrible noise
Do not buy, makes terrible sounds. Support says it needs 8 inches or clearance all around including the top which means it won't fit on a counter or under the cabinets. They also said to remove the new filters it comes with. Terrible design.

Transformational!
I’m addicted to my ge nugget icemaker! Use it everyday and LOVE it. First saw at a friend’s home and immediately bought one for my place as soon as I came home. It’s wonderful—quiet, easy, delicious ice improves every beverage (including iced coffee!), great looking, A+ on all counts. Capacity is plentiful for small family or singles.

Ice master
GE Opal produces delicious nugget ice faster than any other machine I’ve used. While it looks sleek on the counter and boasts an impressive storage capacity, that comes at the cost of a sizable portion of your countertop. You’ll definitely hear it working, but it makes more of a steady hum that is not at all distracting. If you’re looking for a premium machine that delivers the best ice and lots of it, this is your machine.

Don't waste your money. Two of these units in approximately 18 months have failed! The first failed after only a few months and he replaced it with a new unit. About a year later that unit has failed. I love the ice this unit made but I am convinced there is a design flaw. Read the reviews! Not just the reviews made when new....read all of the reviews and you will see that these machines are prone to failure. GE needs to stand behind their product!

Noise. Swealing
It almost lasted a week before the notorious squealing sound came. I will try to upload a video. They have it listed as “optional”. They have got to do a mass recall on these and fix the problem. Search YouTube for “ge ice noise”. You will be amazed. Sadly, it makes awesome ice. Now to get the noise fixed

Good machine but buy distilled water or it won't l
This is my 3rd opal, the first one worked great loved it, fast ice, perfect size..but they only last so long..My 2nd one i got in 10/25). 2 weeks in it wouldn't stop flashing clean, i did both cleanings and nothing, i called we tried a couple things. No luck they sent me a new one, 2 weeks in same thing, i called and Finally she told me to take the filter out and I was using the blue one, the better one... its not better. She said its probably all clogged up it happens. In 2 weeks!! she told me to only use distilled water in it, I have white filters left over from my last opal but she told me just to use the screen and distilled water....so I filled the side tank and no filter, it works but I think im going to use up my white filters and see what happens. Also the light inside will not work? 2 weeks!! Not happy. I know its just a light bulb but I paid good money for it to work and not break in 2 weeks..So distilled water is the way to go.. The only way to go..If you are not going to use distilled water dont bother it will not last..I still enjoy my ice but its a continuous money trap of distilled water I gotta lug in the house all the time...and im not happy about the light! I used that for a night light... so I wanna give it a 5 but I just can't...

Restaurant Quality Ice Nuggets at Home!

Excited to start using this ice maker

I am excited to continue using this ice maker this Summer that should be the real test!

Great ice but too squeaky
Love the ice, hate the noise. This is a great product except that despite sanitizing and descaling, this device makes squeaking noises. Even got a replacement through warranty and same issue started again within 2 weeks. I guess it’s a design flaw.

In heaven!
I bought this icemaker after one year of frustration with the cheap one I had previously. I cannot even begin to say how grateful I am. Easy to install and run. Super quiet. Generates amazing ice. And somehow the ice doesn’t seem to melt as fast in the container, so the compressor goes on far less often than my old one. I’m in heaven!

Loud screeching noises.
Wow. Couple days in and already getting the screeching loud noises that wont stop until you unplug. This is absolutely unacceptable for such an expensive item. Love the ice but definitely disappointed.
