Charging/run time is terrible!
I had the previous version of this toothbrush and loved it. This one is NOT nearly as good as the last version. My biggest complaint is the charge/run time. My old one took about 12-18 hours to fully charge and would last two weeks using it twice a day every day. This one takes 2-2.5 DAYS to charge and only runs about a week before needing recharged. I've been an Oral B electric toothbrush user for years and this is the first time I've been disappointed in a product. It also doesn't feel quite as powerful as my old one, doesn't fit in the Oral B travel case I had for my old one which is annoying, and the on/off button is much harder to push. The only compliment I have is it is slightly quieter than the older model.

This is, by far, the worst toothbrush I’ve ever owned. I’ve never had a toothbrush mold until this one. It is impossible to keep clean. I’ve already ordered a new one and will be tossing this one. Absolute waste of money.
1 reply from Oral-B team - 15 days ago
Whitley, we can certainly imagine how surprised you were to discover your toothbrush had mold on it, and want to help. Please know that there’s nothing in our toothbrush components that would cause mold before use. Mold requires organic material to grow, which isn’t present in our brushes. While it’s rare, mold can develop after use if the brush is stored in a damp area or comes into contact with certain cleaning agents or soaps that can make the plastic porous. So we can help further, please call us at (800) 566-7252.

We’re sorry to hear about your experience and understand how concerning this must be, especially as you mentioned your daughter became unwell. Safety is our top priority, and all our products are thoroughly evaluated during the manufacturing process to be safe when used as directed. At this time, we recommend discontinuing use of the product. A lot of thought and effort is put into the design to make cleaning easier. There’s nothing in our toothbrush components that supports mold growth, as mold requires organic material to develop. While rare, mold can form after use if the brush is stored in a damp area or comes into contact with certain cleaning agents or soaps that may make the plastic porous. We recognize that you clean your brush regularly, but we recommend our following cleaning tips: Rinse the brush head under running water with the handle turned on, then switch it off, remove the head, clean both parts separately, and dry them thoroughly before reattaching. Your feedback is important to us, and we'd appreciate the opportunity to learn more. Please call us at (800) 566-7252 so we can assist you further.

This replaced my 10 year old oral b when its battery crapped out. The new one has a slick finish and formed with a flat surface compared to the old one. Consequently, when the handle gets wet (which you expect a toothbrush to do), it slips around in my hand. I'll put on some sort of grip tape. Should do the trick.

Returning this toothbrush ASAP
This feels like a very weak toothbrush power wise and isn’t worth $50. I’ve tried it out for a week and feel like my teeth aren’t getting cleaned as good as they were with my previous toothbrush. I previously had a Phillips, but decided to try Oral-B, now I know to stick with Phillips from now on. I plan on returning this toothbrush and getting a Phillips again.

Old battery
This was my 2nd purchase of this toothbrush. Did not have great luck with it. The Battery lasted 6 mos then the toothbrush needed to be charged daily. Threw it out and upgraded to the 5000 series.

Disappointing on many levels
My 15-year-old Sonicare electric toothbrush has worn out. I went online to look for a new one. Lots of advancements in 15 years, lots of reviews to analyze. The Oral-B 1000 is highly recommended across many review sites. I was intrigued by the round brush head design, it looked like it would reach around my back teeth better than a traditional brush head shape. I bought one based on those recommendations and I am really disappointed. You can take minimalism too far. The battery indicator is just a single green LED light, so there is no way to know how much power remains in the device. Cell phones, laptops, watches all have a battery icon or a display with percentage, something quickly identifiable as “power remaining.” I charged it out of the box and it took a shocking 24 hours before the little green flashing light shut off. My Sonicare charged in 8 hours. The body of the toothbrush has a nice oval shape, but it is very slippery. The little golf ball-like dimples on the backside do nothing, my hand slips as I use it. It has two bumps on the back to keep it from rolling when laid down on the counter, but they really aren’t effective. The instructions say you can leave it on the charger all the time, not everyone has space on the bathroom counter for the charger, which uses electricity all the time. There is a rubber section on the front of the handle, with a clearly marked on-off spot. However, there is no indication that the lower portion of that rubber section is where you change the brush mode. No markings, no lights, nothing to let you know which mode you are currently using. Instead of a gentle vibration, this toothbrush makes an uncomfortable amount of noise and vibration for its size which isn’t pleasant inside your mouth. Instead of a gentle beep letting you know to move to the next quadrant, the device strongly vibrates twice. It doesn’t shut off after two minutes. That’s ridiculous. I’ve used other electric toothbrushes and they all shut off after two minutes. Why would the designers leave that out? Instead, it vibrates three times to let you know that you have to push the off button. When I pressed the off button, it changed modes! I had to press it several times to shut it off. The brush head has a remarkable number of faults. The stem is too short and too thick; I choked once or twice while trying to reach back teeth. It also has an odd hole in the front, where toothpaste and gunk can get inside. Photographs of the brush head don’t really give you a sense of the scale of the brush head which is surprisingly large and hard to maneuver around back teeth. Interestingly, my spare Sonicare brush heads fit on the stem of the Oral-B, although they do not seat down completely. They fit in my mouth, get to all the corners and will do until I buy a new Sonicare.

Thanks so much for sharing the experience you've had with your Oral-B Pro 1000. Because every Oral-B brush goes through multiple quality checks before heading your way, we only expect you'll be happy with your purchase. The Pro 1000 has a power button that cycles through modes, so it should respond easily when pressed. If you’re having to find a "sweet spot," it might be a bit off. Gets moldy very fast
I got this toothbrush for christmas because I wanted to replace my sonicare. It cleans good, but i’ve had a big problem with mold. there’s so many holes in the head that water seeps into, and under the head there is a small crevice that builds up gunk that I can’t get rid of. Every time i use it i wipe it dry, but no matter what i can’t get rid of the mold. I didn’t notice a problem with battery life and it’s somewhat simple to use (power button is finicky).

Thanks, Rory, for sharing your Oral-B Pro Crossaction 1000 Rechargeable Electric Toothbrush review. Mold can develop after use if the brush is stored damp or cleaned with certain soaps that make plastic porous. Here’s what we recommend: - After each use, remove the brush head and rinse both head and handle separately under running water. - Dry both parts completely before reattaching. - Store your brush in a clean, dry place. - Avoid using soaps that might damage the plastic. We're here to do what we can to help. If you need more assistance, call us at 1 (800) 566-7252.

Disappointing All Around
I got this Oral-B 1000 to replace my Philips Sonicare, which broke after about 18 months. I had read many great reviews on this toothbrush and had high hopes. Unfortunately I am quite disappointed in the Oral-B 1000. My teeth do not feel as clean after a brushing. The clean does not feel like it lasts. The toothbrush gahters water beneath the brushhead which runs down the handle and forms a white ring on whatever surface it rests on. Removing the head after each brush simply transfers the drip to wherever the head goes. The toothbrush is also much noiseier than the one I had. The battery only lasts a few days in between charges. Overall I did not get anything I hoped for out of this toothbrush. I expected more out of Oral-B. I'll be switching back to Sonicare.

Rubber on switch gets mildewy
Rubber section of on-switch smells like mildew. Cleaned it with various cleaning products, always smells like mildew again when it gets wet and whole brushing teeth. It’s gross, I even take the tooth brush head off to dry. And it’s the rubbed part on the toothbrush handle. Huge design flaw.

Thank you for your feedback. We’re sorry to hear about your experience with your brush handle and understand your frustration, especially when you’ve tried cleaning it. Please be assured our products are manufactured and packaged under strict quality controls to ensure they reach you in the best possible condition. All of our electric toothbrushes are designed to make them easier to clean, and nothing can get inside. There's nothing on our brush handles or brush heads that would cause an unpleasant odor. We recognize that you clean your brush, but we suggest trying our cleaning tips. After brushing, thoroughly rinse the brush head while the toothbrush is switched on to minimize toothpaste residue remaining on the brush between uses. Then after rinsing, switch the brush off, remove the brush head from the handle, and clean both parts separately under running water. Wipe both the handle and brush head dry (with a soft towel) and leave them to air dry completely before putting them back together. If necessary, it is OK to use a mild detergent/cleanser and water to clean the outside of the handle. Your feedback is important to us, and we’d be happy to learn more. Please call us at (800) 566-7252 so we can assist you further.

Moldy
I had one of these for about 5 years before it stopped holding a charge & I replaced it with the same model January 2026. I don’t know what materials used in manufacturing these changed but this model develops mold overnight in all the crevices and bottom of the handle! It also doesn’t hold a charge as long and the newish different speed settings is a pain in the butt when you’re just wanting to turn the thing off. Never buying this again.

We’re sorry to hear about this, Lizbeth, and we understand you're likely frustrated. It might help to know that the Oral-B Pro 1000 has a Ni-MH (Nickel-metal hydride) battery. A full charge can take up to 22 hours. Regarding the other concern you mentioned, because there’s nothing in our toothbrush components that would cause mold, this isn’t expected. Mold requires organic material to grow, which isn’t present in our brushes. While it’s rare, mold can develop after use if the brush is stored in a damp area or comes into contact with certain cleaning agents or soaps that can make the plastic porous. Be sure to completely clean and dry your brush after each use, by rinsing the brush head under running water with the handle on. Then switch it off, remove the head, clean both parts separately, and dry them before reattaching. We’d be glad to talk further with you about this, and help as we can. Call us any Monday through Friday, from 9 AM to 6 PM, EST. Our number is 1 (800) 492-7378.

We're sorry your Pro 1000 Toothbrush is only lasting 3 to 4 brushes. This isn't something we'd expect, and we'll be happy to help you further, Robert. Our toothbrushes undergo diligent quality checks to ensure they operate for at least 10 days when fully charged and used regularly (twice a day for 2 minutes), and it may be helpful to check the troubleshooting tips on our Oral-B website, if you haven't already, to see if it will get your toothbrush operating normally. Please note that using a lot of pressure or brushing longer than 2 minutes can decrease the available brushing time, and we'd like to learn more about your experience and assist further with your toothbrush.
