Poorly made garbage
The head kept fall off because the red latch would slide back on its own when vacuuming. This would cause the vacuum to fall over. It fell and damaged a $250 speaker to returned this piece of garbage. Overall it was horrible to use on steps, was messy to empty, and the handle was terrible. The plastic used is low quality and poorly finished with edges that aren't smooth. There's a reason there's so many refurbished units out there for $160.

Not for carpeted floors
This is my fourth Dyson Ball Animal. Nowhere in the item description does it indicate that the cleaner head is for bare floors. Every ad, the box and owner's manual state it is for multiple surfaces. I have berber carpet throughout my house and was almost unable to move the vacuum across the floor. I have not experienced this with any of the other three Dysons I have had. I got a back ache from vacuuming the first time I used it and called the Dyson help line. I was informed that I have the wrong cleaner head and that I should have gotten the "easy to push" cleaner head. I have searched ads and did not find reference to this easy to push cleaner head anywhere. The Dyson rep ordered an easy to push cleaner head for me and is sending it free of charge (it is supposed to arrive today). That said, Dyson is always good to work with for warranty and performance issues, a large part of my decision making when purchasing this item.

I had a Dyson Animal (original) for 20 years and needed to replace it. This Target version is less than the other versions, and I think I know why. This vacuum has the power you expect from Dyson. It proved to me that I should have replaced my old vacuum a long time ago. The issues that I see, and that are mentioned in other reviews, is the durability. The handle and wand are made of extremely flimsy plastic, as in, some of the things bend a little if you put pressure on them. The old Dysons had heavy duty durable plastic. The first thing I can see breaking is the piece that the cord gets wrapped around. The wand is tricky to put back in, so if people fight it, that too I can see breaking. It's not any heavier than my other Dyson, in fact, it's a bit lighter and easier to navigate with. I got the Squaretrade warranty because of reviews but DO NOT BUY THE EXTRA WARRANTY!! Dyson has 5 year warranty that covers the same thing and I never received the Squaretrade warranty, or I would have canceled it. Emailed numerous times, and nothing. So $40 into the nether I suppose. If you're a Dyson fan and don't want to drop $600 for a newer model, go with this one. Keep in mind you need to be a bit more gentle with the plastic body of the machine.

I definitely would never buy a Dyson vacuum again. I will also never buy a vacuum online again. I need to see it in person. I kind if hate this vacuum. It is difficult to use and the attachments are awful.

Wow! Loving the Dyson Animal 3 Total. 🤗 Having 3 cats I vacuum daily using my Dyson cordless stick vac and/or Roomba. The photo posted below is what the Animal picked up AFTER running the Roomba. The suction and maneuverability are amazing. While it is a bit heavier than other brands, I found it easy to use on my hardwood and carpet. Assembly took me less than 15 minutes after a brief read of the instructions and having laid out all the components in advance. 10/10 would recommend.

I've had an old DV17 (the original animal) for nearly 20 years and have now finally replaced it with this Animal 3. It's a Dyson, so it definitely sucks, but there are so many things with it that are just frustrating compared to my old DC17. The place where the accessories attach falls off constantly during operation, and I'm always having to stop, turn it off, and take the canister off so that I can reattach the accessory holder. It also doesn't like to stand upright. You can turn it off and put it upright, hearing the click, then as soon as you let it go, it falls backwards. The purple felt on the bottom has completely come off after 2 or 3 uses, too. So far, I'm not nearly as pleased with it as I was with my DC17, but I'm still going to keep it, because it's better than other vacuums.

I was so excited to try this Dyson vacuum but was quickly disappointed! The product feels like it was made cheaply.. even down to the handle. On top of the poor quality, the vacuum is so loud and does not maneuver easily. In conclusion, save your money.

This is not the vacuum that i thought i was getting. It works ok but is had to handle if you have disabilitys
To bulky and hard to handle. You set the cleaner aside and the next thing you know it falls over. Make sure you hear the second click to be sure it’s locked in place. Also very loud.

Dyson is the best
I had a Dyson years ago that lasted a decade. When it finally died, I bought a different brand that came highly recommended and have had nothing but problems with it. When this Dyson went on sale, I scooped it up. On it's inaugural cleaning mission, it showed me just how dirty my house has been these last few years. I've learned my lesson, it's Dyson for me from now on. I did have to watch a video on YouTube to figure out the hose and handle while putting it together. It's durable and easy to use, and has great suction. You can't go wrong with this vacuum.

Likes: great suction power. Extra Accessories for dusting blinds and small suction rotary brush for smaller spaces or steps. Dislike: I’ve always had a Dyson this one is heavy. Not self propelling therefore difficult on carpet. You will need to push and pull when vacuuming carpet.
