Toasts evenly and reliably. We had to get rid of another toaster we had only had for a year, but it never did a good job.

More like a subscription
Wirecutter says this is the best toaster but don't expect it to last, and I can confirm that it only worked for about 2 years and then stopped toasting reliably so I had to replace it.

Uneven browning
Nice looking toaster and the controls are easy to use. But, when I toast things the browning isn't even and I end up turning the items 180degrees to get overall browning. Now, we didn't spend much on this toaster so I suspect you get what you pay for. We had an older model that finally gave up and it toasted quite even.

Would buy again
Pros: Does a fine job of toasting. Cool to the touch when operating. Very lightweight, easy to turn upside down to shake out crumbs. Cons: The biggest con is that the first several toasting cycles smell like burning plastic. Really horrible smell, presumably somewhat toxic. Do a few cycles empty, until smell stops, with ventilation. Slots are smaller back to front than our previous unit, longer slices have to be turned and put in again. Dial turns easily, can be knocked to unintended setting if not careful.

Like the different functions.
Have not use all functions and only used regular bread and it seems to be working ok. I like the defrost, reheat and also can toast any size of bread.

Not the usual quality I associate with Crisinart. The dial to set color of toast is so easy to move that you can just brush against it and it moves. Also the very top of some slices of bread don't get toasted. Some larger bagels don't fit in the slots. Very disappointed. I will be returning it.

Smells Bad
The first time we used the toaster it gave off a strong chemical odor. We immediately shut it off and put out on our porch. Once the toaster had cooled down, we tried it again. The same strong smell came out of the toaster. After ten tries and no lessening of the odor, we returned the toaster to the store and purchased a different brand. That new toaster worked fine. No bad chemical smell.

Regrets
Wish i could not give any stars. I purchased this toaster at the end of November 2025 and still can't get my toast or bagel right, they are either under cooked or burnt. i have just slightly moved the dial and it still under cooks the toast and the bagel button is the same. regret purchasing this toaster, the one it replaced also a Cuisinart worked so much better.

Staying with a good thing….
We bought this one to replace the exact same model we had bought 4 years earlier. Would have liked the old one to last a bit longer, but for the price and for something used daily, we had no doubts about buying the same again. So far works fine.

Not quite perfect
Almost a five star, but not quite. On the same setting (bagel and 3.5) I sometimes get perfect toasting and sometimes get singed edges. I'm sure it is related to the thickness of the bagel and/or my slicing, but I have no way to anticipate this problem. Otherwise, it is speedy and effective. A major improvement over its predecessor.

Cuisinart Toaster Review
We wanted a white toaster, and one with a reputable brand, so we chose the Cuisinart. It works well, as promised. However, the two sides of each toast slice have slightly inconsistent “colorings” — like lots of brands, unfortunately. My other quibble is that a thinner-than-usual slice winds up falling down on one side or the other of the “platform” the slice rests upon. Is there not some way for the slice to be grabbed/partially enclosed when you lower the slice to be toasted??? Please try!!!
