I've always used a mixture of either Mrs. Meyers, or Mrs. Meyers and 1/4 cup bleach (never bleaches my carpet, only santizes it) and I've used even laudry soap and bleach (small amounts of each) and have had exceptional results. I think they want you to use the Hoover brand cleaners for obvious reasons, but I've always used other methods when I ran out of the cleaner that comes with the machine. If your uneasy about the bleach mixture try a little on a small patch first. But I've always put about a 1/4 cup in my full water tank to sanitize my carpet. Love it.

Do not buy….it will show you how dirty your carpets really are. I don’t feel comfortable walking barefoot in my own home anymore. It works too well. Ignorance was bliss. Now I have to clean every inch of my carpets. I’m glad I have this machine to do it.

Im 65 and this is my 3rd Hoover machine, I was really skeptical of this smartwash crap and I was right apparently, it's very light and cheap made, I have only used it once in a very small area and now I go to use once again and it won't pick up the dispensed water. I actually had to use my older Hoover for help.

I have never once left an item review but this thing was so insanely good that i had to come and write this. Only thing that frustrates me is how often you have to dump the dirty water and refill the water bucket- however my floors were atrocious so it’s probably a me problem!

I absolutely loved my smart wash I followed the rules to a t. I always cleaned the brushes after each use cleaned all the tanks and dried them before I put it away. Then one day I fill my water and soap and start the machine and it's making this God awful noise. Very very loud I flipped machine over and took a look and everything's clean ...is there any saving it I haven't even had it for a year. I really loved this machine and now I'm so disappointed

Cleans fine but the build quality is seriously lacking. We've had this for about 2 years, not sure about the exact date. We've had 2 major issues. 1. The Suction Nozzle handle broke almost immediately (less than 2 days after opening the box). Hoover did supply a replacement part for this as they should have. 2. The clips that hole the solution tank in place do literally nothing now. If you don't hold the solution tank down, it leaks and will empty in a few minutes. The clips aren't broken, they simply don't work.

THIS IS AMAZING! By far the best carpet shampooer my mom has ever used. I am a border collie who loves to lay in dirt but hates baths. My mom is always complaining about the dirty carpets so I bought her this for my 12th birthday. We also live on the ground floor of an apartment and walk through dirt, pine needles, etc when we come through the door, plus I love laying in my dirt nest out front. I am having literally so much fun barking at this while my mom runs the shampooer over her very dirty floor to reveal the most amazing CLEAN!! See for yourself! I can’t wait to lay on the rug and get it dirty all over again just so I can watch her have so much fun cleaning again. :)

Buying a carpet cleaner is a heavy price tag… so if your like me you are doing research. I never write reviews either and here we are. I have a 1 year old puppy and as you can guess… we needed a carpet cleaner. This thing is AMAZING!! Yes there are bad reviews here and there but I’m telling you… just read the instructions and it works like a charm. 12/10 my new favorite toy!!

Very disappointed It leaves carpets wet after trying to dry. This was a replacement after the first one failed it was still under warranty. It's only been a year since the replacement. It still has time in the warranty. I do not feel it's worth the effort to drive 70 miles to have the same problem again. The last few Hoover items I had purchased were not worth the money spent.

Warrranty covers almost nothing. Target would nit return product after only 5 months when product states 5 year warranty. Target customer service told me to return in store and then the next representative said that it was not “assured.” The “wear and tear” pieces break easily so be very careful or you will be stuck with a $300 faulty item!
Sold me a used product at a new price! I want a discount or refund.

Target literally gave me a unit that somebody else returned. The tank already had left over water in it. 0/10. Target should at the very least discount something that’s already been used and not sell it like it’s brand new. Buyer beware. You will get USED products they sell as brand new. Sickening.

Never would have guessed I’d be leaving a review for a carpet cleaner lol. We had some spills on our couch ottoman and figured we would get this cleaner that comes with the hose, instead of just a mini cleaner- so we could clean our carpets. I’ll let the pictures speak for themselves! Easy to clean, works amazing, drying feature helps but plan to let your carpets/rugs/upholster air dry too.

Amazing machine. My senior doggy had some accidents. Much worse than these pictures. This was just the last of it. I immediately ordered this machine on Target pick up. 2 hours later,…Magic. Thanks Hoover!! Really love this machine. Nothing leaks. In the past I bought 2 smaller cleaners. They all leaked. This is great. I used the hand held cleaning for all of it. Great job!!
